Ah it died in the end?

    No way, can't believe that.

Though it would explain why his brother had such a long face when I seen him in his field earlier.

They were sulky racing through the estate and the horse died of exhaustion. The fella that was on him just took off the harness and walked off.
    Scum

Horse was used for a sulky race, and dropped from exhaustion. The owner just walked away and left it to die.

If true they'll be able to trace it from the microchip ?

Why don’t the Gardai confiscate the horses? Sulky racing in an estate, what about animal welfare & public safety?

Ha ha good one.not a hope in hell would that horse have been chipped.spending money on microchip isn’t in the culture boss.
Scum of the earth to do that to the horse and guaranteed the owner is as dumb as a rock for letting it happen.they claim horses are part of their culture but can’t even cater to the animals basic needs absolute animal cruelty.horses shouldn’t be run on anything other than grass or sand.
Hope they find the fukr and charge him for animal cruelty and the cost of disposing of the horse.
Fukrs shouldn’t be allowed to own animals

Because the guards avoid them like the plague where possible and you could hardly blame them. If they did do anything with them it’s discrimination.
They shouldn’t be allowed to keep any animals full stop.

No proper justice system n this country.
So scum can do as they like
If it's not cruelty to animals it's bashing up old people who live alone and robbing everything they have.

By law all horses must be chipped and have a passport. Have a look at the rules here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/environment/animal_welfare_and_control/control_of_horses.html
I'd bet the cost for a full year of my own horse's keep at a registered equestrian facility that the horse in this story fulfilled any of the legal requirements.

"Rescuing" such horses is a waste of money, many of them have been so badly treated and starved that they will cost thousands upon thousands to improve, but the horse will never be useful again. If the owner comes to claim them, unless all legal conditions are met, the horse should not be returned- and even then, returning the horse to the owner probably means the whole cycle of starvation and beating starts again. Gardaí aren't to blame, apart from anything else, they don't have the expertise to round up the horses or transport for the horses to the pound.

Have the ispca involved along with the guards then. If the animal is beyond help through cruelty or neglect then they could confiscate it anyway and charge the owner with animal cruelty where possible. If nothing else it may prevent further ownership if a ban was put in place and the ispca or a vet could end the animals suffering in a humane manner instead of letting it suffer in their clueless hands.boils my blood the thoughts of it.
Guaranteed if that happened in the states the fukrs would see jail.watch animal cops Houston.them boys aren’t afraid to knock on door and root out the scum

All my grandparents were farmers therefore I can surely claim it's my culture to have a flock of sheep and a few cows loose on open ground.

Really?Have you ever tried to rehab a starved or ill-treated horse? I'd prefer money to go into destroying horses that will never recover than to spend thousands on one horse that can never, ever be useful, even as a pet or companion horse.I say this as someone who has been around horses for almost 50 years.

A horse owned by the same culture dropped at a roundabout in Limerick a few years ago. A vet arrived at the scene and was threatened with being shot if they helped. It took the horse 3 hours to die. The scum wouldn't even use the bullet on the horse...

Actually, she's right. If you get the horses early enough, you might stand some hope. We took a cob out of Dublin when it was 2. It was broken and riding (in a manner of speaking) but the nerves in his mouth had already been damaged beyond repair. It took years to develop any sort of response from his mouth and even now, 16 years later, he still can ignore the reins if he wants because feeling is minimal.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It does take a lot of work, care, money and commitment. Secondary problems are often worse than primary problems.

If you don't own a field you have no business owning a horse.

Animal abuse needs to be taken more seriously in Ireland and the bizarre notion that any groups 'culture' entitles them to treat an animal like shite needs to stop. Some people are more offended by negative comments about a certain section of Irish society than they are about horses dying in agony on the middle of a road. In no other civilised country would scumbags get away with this nor would there be almost weekly threads of people standing up for the rights of animal abusers.
