absolutely, a lot of people here think he should have been traded last offseason but hindsight is 20-20.

I am gonna go to the game on Saturday, hopefully Donaldson will be playing. I think he has to go straight into the big league side, they aren't allowed put him in the minors to get rid of some more rust

A player can't be traded while on the DL, so by extension any traded player has to be put into the 40 man roster. I wouldn't say he'll be starting, probably coming off the bench.

Would like to see that but it's the night game so past my bedtime.

If only the Red Sox and Yankees had a series this weekend.

Got Eir TV installed last week, so have ESPN again, woohoo

Managed to sit down last night, and watch the full Dodgers and D-Backs game.
Very good pitchers duel, and fantastic finish.

Going to be a tight September in the NL West. One bad losing streak could be huge.

Donaldson went back on the 10 day DL so will definitely not be appearing in the series against Blue Jays.

Box scores are ridiculous now that rosters are at 40.

What's going on in Seattle lads?

Dee Gordon dropped a very routine fly ball and apparently Segura took exception to it. Rumours around that Segura hasn't been a team player lately making himself unavailable for selection. That's what led to the skirmish in the clubhouse.

Media and talk radio having a field day in Seattle then I'd imagine,

Angels announced that Othani has been recommended to have TJ surgery but he can still hit while deciding whether to have the surgery or not.

Amusing play by Frazier in the game the other night to convince the umpire he'd caught the ball, when he hadn't.
    https://twitter.com/SNYtv/status/1037168219558240256

I love it that the ball he showed the umpire was a souvenir ball made of rubber that was in the green bag he knocked over trying to catch the foul popup. And that he had the presence of mind to toss that ball into the stands rather than to the pitcher.

We Mets fans take our highlights where we can get 'em, especially in years like this one, where the starting pitching has been about as expected, and the rest of the team an underperforming disaster.

Still, they can play spoiler now for the next few weeks.

    This is brilliant.

The Dodgers continue to be a funny team to try and figure this year. Swept the Dbacks and then drop a series to the Mets.

Astros, Red Sox, Yankees and A’s have all complained to MLB about the Donaldson trade to the Indians.

Apparently to be dealt on waivers, you have to be fit to play but the Indians immediately put him on the DL after they got him which is against the rules. But it doesn’t look like anything will come of the complaints.

Mariners probably won't make the playoffs (again) but Diaz only needs 9 more saves from 19 games remaining to break the single season saves record.

I don't think he'll get there, I'd say he'll end up second though

He needs what 4 to get to second all time on his own? That'll be tough too, Mariners though might be in a position to play for this record given they are not going to make the play offs.

I would say he has a good chance of getting 4 more - the way he has been throwing the ball this year, he just needs the chance and he'll convert it. Only 4 blown saves in 58 save opportunities. I do agree that 9 in 19 will be very tough.

Its nothing to do with Diaz really, more to do with whether he has the opportunity. If he gets 9 opportunities I think he'll break the record. But end of season quite often leads to games that arent as tight so will he get the chance is more my question.

Will be interested to see if they try to help him with it, throw him in in the 8th for a 5 or 6 out save.

I think if it's a blow out game that they're winning by a load of runs he can pitch 7th, 8th and 9th and get credited with a save regardless of how close the game is? Would need to be an away game.

Starting to think the Dodgers are going to miss the Playoffs this season. Too inconsistent at the moment, and the Rockies are playing more solidly.

Going to be a great last few weeks in the NLW and NLC.

Oh yes sorry you are right. That's part of the reason why I don't really like the save statistic.

Nah I don't think they'll do anything that drastic unless it's last day of the season and he's one save short of the record. He has pitched more than 1 innning exactly once this year iirc and even then it was only 1 1/3rd.

I know for a player with clauses in his contract about them will think differently, but saves are a ridiculous stat. Not as bad as pitcher wins, but still a waste of time.

An there's no way I'd mess up a player's routine or number of innings pitched, just to reach a save target.

I think pitcher wins are slightly more useful than saves. I think saves would be more meaningful if they changed it from 3 runs to 1 run. It's one thing pitching in the 9th with your team up 3 runs, quite another if it's just 1 run (which is really where Diaz has excelled this year).
