Been going to Z-We-Ton on Fr Russell Road for over 10 years and have never had a bad bit of food there, sit-down or takeaway. Haven't been to the ones on Denmark St or in Annacotty.

In actual fact I don't even want to think about the amount of money I've left there over the years..

China Ki in Corbally is my go to, though I much prefer Indian these days, the quality in say the Mogul is just top notch.

    Most overrated is the Jasmine

The one in Denmark St does the best chicken curry I've ever had, it's a pity they don't do salt and chilli shredded chicken though. Sequoia in thomondgate is pretty good too.

I dont think there is any real authentic Chinese restaurants in Limerick but my go to Chinese Take-away is Chinese Palace in Roxboro Shopping Center

I really like Canteen in the Parkway. More general Asian than Chinese though.

Prefer takeaway to eating in - it's cold in there and they could do with some redecoration.

Seriously? It's the closest Chinese takeaway to my house, but I'll travel further to get decent food. It's probably one of the worst Chinese takeaways in Limerick.

You are correct however that there are no authentic Chinese restaurants in Limerick and possibly Ireland). Chicken curry is not a Chinese dish.

I think it's decent as well. The curry in Chinese Palace is my favourite in Limerick. Saying that, the Peony Court at Punches Cross is my go-to Chinese!

Agreed. Jasmine used to be a good Chinese, but in the past few years, prices have gone up and quality has gone down.

God no - its very tasty, I'd prefer it over Zwe-ton, Wokking and many others. Its competitively priced too.

Peony Court would be my second fav but its a bit on the expensive side.

Tried the Chinese Palace when they first opened as it's also my closest place but I wasn't impressed at all, haven't been back since .

Hong Kong or Peony Court for me .

Lily House in Raheen is decent, never had a bad meal from there. Nothing beats the Peony Court though!

The last time I was in Zweton it seemed to be one of these 'fusion' places that sits between your good old fashioned 'dirty' Chinese and actual proper, nice Asian food. As such it filled neither brief and was stuff I felt should never be eaten by anyone.

Perhaps I should give it another spin.

    Can't beat the Wokking!

    - chicken curry at Zweton
Chicken Kung Po at Pagoda castletroy (savage!)

I've always wondered what the Peony Court was like...based on the recommendations here, I'll be trying it.

Used to be called the Golden Bowel - has it changed owners? Would be willing to try it again.

Yeah it's changed from Golden Bowl a while now, not sure if they are new owners but the food has been brilliant any time we have got it from there. They do a savage 12" Spice Box too for 15e, puts the boxes from other chinese to shame with the amount you get in it :D

Love Wokking, good food as well as good value for what you get!

You must be joking. Possibly the worst one in Limerick.

    I wouldn't feed it to a dog.

Used to go Zweton in Raheen and Castletroy all the time (peony court aswell) never was satisfied with any always found them all a bit dodgy being honest I think I even had a thread similar to this up before and alot of people said Panda Kingdom top of william street and the Hong Kong , Eventually I switched to Indian and Copper and Spice a hundred times nicer than any chinese in town

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Mc Love

Tried Lilly House last night, it was decent grub. Got 10% off as it was my first order online too, which was nice.

The Singapore noodles from there are lovely. Decent size portion too.

Lily house is lovely and very good value. Golden bowl was there before it and the owners retired.

Hong Kong are on just eat now.... recent addition. Haven't had food there in 20 years, but may be tempted to chance a takeaway. Any particularly recommendations ?

+1 for Copper and Spice. Would 100% recommend this over any Chinese I've ever had in Limerick.

I noticed a new Asian food shop and noodle bar as I drove past at the very top of William Street. Has anyone tried it? It looked bright and clean from the quick glance I got.

The food in Copper and spice is gorgeous but can be a little on the expensive side. Don't be expecting customer service with a smile either

Parnell Street in Dublin has plenty of Chinese restaurants providing authentic Chinese food, mostly to Chinese customers. :)

Pardon my ignorance for not being culturally inclined food wise (or ANY wise even), but what would authentic Chinese food actually constitute? I'm assuming an old plate of chips wouldn't be on the menu? If not then they can fe*k off cos I love my chips!! :D

I can speak to that. Frequented one a few years back, and ordered a particularly hot dish.

They watched me eat it, in anticipation of a meltdown :D

A meltdown that did NOT arrive

Traditional Chinese food obviously includes a lot of rice, different types of noodles, tofu etc.

Dumplings are the big thing you tend to get in decent places in this part of the world anyway - little parcels of beef, chicken, pork, veg etc. They are seriously tasty and a world away from the typical sugary saucy stuff you get off the regular menus. Not to say those dishes don't have their own charm.
