Couldn't they have held it down the country or some place people believe in this cult?

Wonder will all the Priests that HIS Vatican has placed gagging orders on be there?
Wonder will he visit the Cesspit in Tuam as part of the celebration of the family?

I think there is an unopened box of plastic Vatican flags from 1979 up in the loft. (Beside the 'I shot JR' car sun visors).
Time to dust them off and get selling!

    1. If the priests that have been “gagged” don’t agree with the Pope then I don’t know why they would want to be there. They really should start their own religion with rules that they do agree with, don’t you think?
    2. If he went to Tuam what would you like him to do there and how would his visit to Tuam benefit anyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,590 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

One day he's a Cardinal and nobody gives a ****e. Next he's Pope and folk flock to catch a glimpse.

It'll probably bring a huge amount to the economy though.

He's the elected monarch of a church going back thousands of years with billions of followers across planet Earth. How can it be hard to fathom that people might want to see him?

They aren't going to see the man, they're going to see the office that man represents.

Revenue should do the collection in the Phoenix Park. Buy a few hundred baskets and pass them round.

He could start by begging for forgiveness for the crimes against humanity carried out by the criminal conspiracy that he heads.

He seems reasonable enough, albeit judged against his predecessors.

I'd have been all up for a massive protest against Ratzinger, not so much this guy.

1.2 Billion catholics or thereabouts and quite a few non practising so not quite in the billions.

I'm just happy I've flights booked for August because things are going to get very expensive very quickly.

Would the Pope give you and the Zetor a tow out of the slunks in the bog, or hold the jack when you're pulling a calf from a cow?

    He would in me hole.

Be great if he could settle the church's abuse compensation tab while he's here.hope.he brings the cheque book with him.

He'll probably pontificate somewhat, but I bet you he dosn't say this or he'll get stoned :D
Might be a bishop or two he might like to vocally support with a bit of anti-calumny!

I had three windows broken by practicing Catholics.

    Wish they'd practice somewhere else.

I remember tha last visit of JP - wasn't a car on the roads during his phoenix park show.

I have a suspicion that this time traffic will be as normal as any other day.

I’d happily pay for both or either of those items in particular the “I shot JR” piece.
Do you have an online shop?

I can see this is a big deal to those of very religious devotion.

Honestly outside that I can’t see why this is a big deal for anyone else. He will come, say mass, have meetings and leave, nothing will change, there will be no long lasting effects, we will all go on with our lives with no change.

The Pope (any pope) is one of the most famous people in the world at any given time. A visit from him is a big deal in any country he goes to and is a big ticket news item.
It won’t be any different here.
Expect rolling news commentary from RTÉ a la Storm Emma.

Given the tyrannical grip the Roman church had on this country, are you surprised?

Given the widespread rape and abuse of young children by Roman priests that was covered up by the RC church, are you suprised?

Given the constant opposition to women's rights in society and the RC church's continued gender discrimination against women, are you surprised?

    Shall I continue?

I was in Poland at the time of the popes visit in '06, and prohibition was in place for the duration of his visit to the towns he was in, to the extent that I ordered an ice cream sundae that normally comes with a chocolate and amaretto sauce and the waitress sheepishly told me that it would only be chocolate because of the popes visit!
I wonder will they try the same here, imagine it, traffic chaos and not a drop of drink to be had!

That'll really f*ck with your drinking game Vale!

So you agree with the mass rapping of children by priests?
Is that part of your faith?
