Any chance Ger Canning is near the mandatory retirement age?

    68. Is there one in rte?

+1. He really is brutal. Repeatedly getting names and referee decisions wrong. What hold does he have on RTE?

Wasn’t that why Lyster had to go?

I used to say that about the RTE commentators but then TV3 got the rights for a few matches and all was forgiven!! :pac:

Not a fan of the Wexford accent then ? And sure ger canning can see the pairc from where he lives so as much of a pain as he is he was always going to be commentating on this game.

Micheal Lyster was a full time contract RTE staff employee so had to retire at 65.Canning is now 68,so he must not be on full time contract and didn't have to retire at 65.

    That is disappointing.

Bar in certain jobs it's pretty much illegal to force people to retire at 65 even if contract says it.

I thought Michael decided to wrap it up because of his health.

Strange. He’s said elsewhere that he had no choice but to go.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,406 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Maybe he was just told to say ill health. Hard to know

Watching League Sunday back, that’s some size of a set they have now.

Also, really like Hugh Cahill on commentary. Was wondering where he want after they gave Marie Crowe his slot on Game On.

Anyone know what match is being shown live on Sunday?

Out of the three possibilities Meath-Mayo is probably the worst match on paper but it looks like it'll have the highest stakes as it already looks like an all or nothing game for Meath.
