incorrect product received, was told to return it at my own expense

My first order with custompcparts.ie should have been the last. a graphics card they delivered was the wrong one - and picked up by a courier quickly after which I received the correct card.

But a similar problem just happened again this time for a mother board - for which they blame MSI.

I ordered the MSI B350 GAMING PRO CARBON AMD B350 Socket AM4 ATX motherboard
This is a different mobo than the B350M GAMING PRO which is not advertised on their website (note: w/o CARBON mentioned in the product name).

Apparently the SKU 'MSI B350 GAMING PRO' they use is the same for both.
I received the MSI B350 GAMING PRO instead which since this incident is now available on their website and the CARBON product has been removed.

CustomPC informed me a courier will not be sent out to collect the item; I should return the product at my own expense and will be refunded for the item alone.

How did you pay for the mobo?

    Chargeback?

They'll come to an agreement pretty quick then or might be frowned upon.

Paypal but they could refund me directly in bitcoin.

Take it up with Paypal, it's a case of product not as described...open & shut case.

Another response I got was ''MSI B350 Carbon is not a UK or Ireland item and is not sold in this jurisdiction .''

Just found a UK store at laptopsdirect dot Ie does sell msi-gaming-pro-carbon-amd-b350-ddr4-atx-motherboard-b350-gaming-pro-carbon
So how can custompc state the above?

My first order with custompcparts.ie should have been the last. a graphics card they delivered with a lot of hassle from their courier nightline was the wrong one - and eventually picked up and more transport frustration after which I received the correct graphics card.

Aren't PayPal offering free returns now?

They're stating that because they're chancers, had a guy here a while ago complaining about a CiT PSU from them

    "No it's Torque brand"

"Why's it got ****ing CiT stamped on the side then"

Get PayPal involved, demand a full refund after they cover returning the product, and take your business elsewhere is what I'd recommend

Yea, go through PayPal and don't waste your time with the shop. Had similar problems some years ago with a motherboard I bought on eBay, after nearly a month of faffing about, I had PayPal take care of it in 3 days.

Opened a dispute with Paypal and also waiting for response to letter of complaint sent to CUSTOM COMPUTERS & TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED
ENTERPISE BUSINESS , PARK , O'BRIEN ROAD , CARLOW , IRELAND - REGISTERED IN IRELAND COMPANY NUMBER 562478

Also followed up with MSI to comment:

Ordered the MSI B350 Gaming Pro CARBON from @CustomPCParts.ie but received incorrect item MSI B350 Gaming PRO; they blame MSI using the same SKU for both products and the part picker didn't see the difference either looking at the description of the product containing CARBON (CustomPC have taken the B350 gaming pro carbon off their website now). Additionally they replied: MSI B350 Carbon is not a UK or Ireland item and is not sold in this jurisdiction. But I found @UKLaptopsDirect does ship the product to Ireland.
I was told I can get a refund for the motherboard only (not the shipping) but have to return the product at my own expense. Stay clear from this retailer. Can @MSIGaming help me as the manufacturer please?

That joke of a shop still exists? How are enough people ordering crap from this guy to keep him in business.

Complete and utter scum. He shouldn't even be allowed to operate.

"LOW Cost gaming PC's" as an example. Low going up to €1050 that only has a 2gb 1050 non ti in it. Or up to €750 with a 1030. Just wow.

Exactly why I wanted to raise awareness as most of us might just see this thread before they press purchase and end up here when it is too late.

Sent a complaint to custompcparts custompc using the template provided at @CCPCIreland website which also explains terms like Misleading advertising and what to do about Disputed card transactions (chargeback):The supplier did not deliver the goods or services you paid for; The goods were delivered to you but were faulty or not as described.

Horrible I have to go down this route when their support service doesn't offer any further support - you can see from the reviews on Trustpilot these kind of incidents are a regular occurrence.

It ruins it for other Irish businesses when there are alternatives that do provide better customer support experience.

This could be some kind of scam... or possibly scamola

how so? MSI have followed up with me directly. As this store is not their direct distributor, they cannot directly regulate this store.

The only way this place is in business these days, or any very small pc parts/build company, is if they are drop shipping standard products at inflated rates.

Which means if they sent OP the wrong product, they ordered the wrong product from another supplier. So they will be down the cost of his current board plus the cost of his correct board, plus shipping costs.

Bloody hell that website is so cluttered it looks more like a "sell your advertisement space here" place.
Wouldn't touch em with a 10foot pole for that reason alone.

Correct! It's just another website that is pumping data from STOCKINTHECHANNEL.CO.UK from all their suppliers matched with product descriptions and pumped in to their webstores CUSTOMPC.IE CUSTOMPCPARTS.ie CUSTOMLAPTOPS.IE torquegaming.ie customworkstations.ie with a margin on top.

    https://www.stockinthechannel.co.uk/Search?q=msi+b350+gaming+pro

That's where the mistake was made using the SKU 'MSI B350 GAMING PRO' for the product 'MSI B350 GAMING PRO CARBON'.

So Custom Computers & Technologies Limited is blaming their distributor while I still have to return the item by courier at my expense to get a refund. About to escalate my Paypal dispute case.

Get Paypal to sort this out, they are usually very good about stuff like this.

I received feedback from MSI UK on this matter. They confirmed that I received the wrong board from CustomPCParts as a MSI reseller… MSI didn’t make a mistake on putting the same SKU for B350 GAMING PRO CARBON and B350 GAMING PRO.

    B350 GAMING PRO CARBON EAN-> 4719072512323
    B350M Gaming Pro EAN-> 4719072512316

It’s Custompcparts’s problem who didn’t ship the correct product to me as their customer.
They accommodated for pickup by courier at their expense for a previous order where an incorrect item (i.e. graphics card received not what I ordered) was sent.

Retailer is trying hard to have my reviews removed from TrustPilot for both custompc.ie and custompcparts.ie
So they first invited me to share my experience only to have it flagged as not compliant or bogus, go figure!

    http://www.amazon.co.uk

I don't bother with Irish retailers due to a) price, and b) hearing about this kind of sh*te a bit too regularly.

They [Paypal] determined that I am eligible for a refund. I have to ship the item back to the seller. But it's not worth it since I am still held responsible for shipping and handling costs.

So if a discount on a product sounds too good to be true, start searching for reviews (TrustPilot) on the company that sells it before buying from them.

Don’t PayPal have a free return postage thing going on?

Take them to the small claims court.
Or threaten to taken them to the small claims court
The fee for making a small claim is €25.
EU laws give you strong protection when you buy online. The Consumer Rights Directive covers you when you buy from businesses based in the EU.

Paypal is useless, they always ask that the item is returned.. at buyers cost..

I checked PayPal process: Request a refund on return shipping costs.

That service is exactly what they should have pointed out.

The motherboard is still in its sealed wrap. But at this stage I am not comfortable any longer to return it back to CustomPCparts.

Under 200€ doesn't need to be shipped as registered post. But after my bad experiences with Custompc I no longer want anything to do with these people.
I feel I am forced now to use this board for my sons gaming PC even when after reviewing that model B350 Gaming Pro was one of the first to not consider buying. Was set on getting the B350 Gaming Pro Carbon.

Meanwhile the second series of AM4 Ryzen 2000 came out, with the 450 470 motherboards. Why would I want to assemble a now year old deprecated components.

Just happy I had not purchased the DDR RAM memory strips for this machine as they would be incompatible or unsupported with the mobo.

Correct.. Maybe another reason PayPal didn't offer this service to me. Don't want to get bitten by this either.

    General Conditions of Use -
    PayPal Refunded Returns Service
    https://www.paypal.com/ie/webapps/mpp/refunded-returns/general-conditions

These GCU describe the PayPal Refunded Returns service in effect from January 1st, 2016 to December 31st, 2017.

Did you buy from them just because they have a .ie address? Their prices are higher than other well known sites.
    My order of preference is.

Amazon.co.uk - They send you a free shipping label on returns and process the refund very fast. The refund is so fast I doubt they even have time or care if the item is really faulty or not.
Loads of stories of people bending pins on motherboard through their own negligence and getting a refund no questions asked.
Best to items that say fulfilled by amazon if you can.

Scan.co.uk - Good customer service, easy to deal with.

overclockers.co.uk - Reliable, not as good customer service as the others so things can take longer but they won't rip you off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 gridhawk

stay away from this business. they were even too thick to admit or apologize the product (MSI B350 Gaming Pro CARBON) and price that made me click buy ever existed on their website. paypal took their side, very disappointing, and custompc didn't want to know about sending the incorrect product (MSI B350M Gaming Pro) I received back to them for re-imbursement. If something is to good to be true....

Sorry to hear that, there seems to be a shift with papal siding with sellers more frequently.
