That's savage running! Planning to read back on what plan you're following now...

Thank you kindly, but I feel compelled to point out that it was possibly the slowest winning time in the history of 5K running :o:o

    Monday 28th

Almost killed me to go to the gym on such a beautiful day but the way things are working out at the moment if I don’t take the opportunity early in the week I’ll end up not going at all. Almost a full session (3 sets of everything). Drank 3 bottles of water during the hour I was there .

    Short easy run later.
    • 2.5 miles (path, tarmac)

    Tuesday 29th

Hottest day of the year so far and I’ve a session to do . 5 x 1K broken up as (800m @ 5k pace or slightly faster, 2 mins recovery, 200m @ mile pace, 2 mins recovery) x 5. Managed to download all that to the watch, so all that remained was actually running it which probably took less time .

Stuck to the shady side of the park which was also the busiest as close to the playground. Park was jammers but made it through unscathed apart from a close call with a Frisbee .

Target pace for the 800s was 7:05 min/mile or less and for the 200s 6:50 min/mile or less (based on last week’s less than inspiring mile TT). Actually found the 200s very easy. I think the 2 mins recovery is too generous. The plan suggests changing it to 90 seconds to make the session more difficult so I’ll try that next time.

    Rep 800m 200m
    1 07:01 06:11 min/mile
    2 07:00 06:46 min/mile
    3 06:47 06:18 min/mile
    4 06:52 06:32 min/mile
    5 06:46 06:02 min/mile

    • 7.2 miles (tarmac, trail)

    Wednesday 30th

Supposed to go to Pilates but by the time I got home from work and organised I would have missed half the class so just did a run along the promenade instead.
    • 3.7 miles (grass)

    Thursday 31st

A hot one! Plan said 4 miles tempo, I said no. Did 3.33 miles at tempo (a 10% increase on last week’s distance) and it was really tough. And slow. Oh well, it’s done and was actually heading towards tempo pace by the end but I really just felt flat and slow throughout. Average pace was around 8:00 min/mile.
    • 4.8 miles total (tarmac, grass, path)

    STATS FOR MAY:
    Runs: 24, Gym/Pilates: 5, Swim/Aqua S&C: 1, Cycles: 1, Rest/Snow Days: 6
    MILES: 108

    Friday 1st June

    REST

    Saturday 2nd June

Headed out in the afternoon sunshine having missed out on parkrun this morning thanks to OH taking an unauthorised lie-on . A spectacular day. Headed along the promenade, breeze was strong enough on the way out but the sunshine was glorious and the sea sparkling. Ran to the end of the Bull Wall. Loads of swimmers on one side and kite surfers on the other (Dollymount) side. Plan was originally for 7 miles but I was enjoying the run and added on an extra mile to cover tomorrow’s LSR and I’ll do the 7 tomorrow.
    • 8.0 miles (path, grass, tarmac)

    Sunday 3rd June

2 laps of St.Anne’s. Was chilly enough in the breeze so pleasant running conditions.
    • 7.0 miles (grass, trail, tarmac)

    TOTAL WEEKLY MILES: 33.2

    Monday 4th

Rest. Unplanned but couldn’t summon the will or the energy to run after a day in work on a Bank Holiday. Not a fan of taking a rest day early in the week as I know I’ll struggle to make it up later on.

    Tuesday 5th

OMG the heat! Very tempted to bail on the session but made a pact with myself that I would complete the reps but cheat on the recoveries :o. It was 5 x 1K with 90 secs recovery but another 30 secs or so extra with all the reps bar the first. I don’t think I could have done the session otherwise. Had to take 5 mins lying on the grass afterwards . Target pace was 7:05 and reps came in at (6:56, 6:57, 6:59, 6:55, 7:02) min/mile. That was so tough!
    • 6.7 miles total (tarmac, trail)

    Wednesday 6th

Pilates, good class. Ran there and back.
    • 3.1 miles

    Thursday 7th

Hills ! Plan said 8 reps, alternating 1 and 2 minutes. Jogged the recoveries. Tough in the heat. Usual hill alongside the cemetery in Sutton/Howth. Too tired to fully appreciate the amazing view.

Paces were slightly enthusiastic for the first set (6:55, 7:56), then more realistic for the next three (7:35, 8:12), (7:37, 8:19) and (7:56, 8:07) min/mile.
    • 6.0 miles total (path, tarmac)

    Friday 8th

A paltry mile today was all I had time for :(. Wasn’t even a full mile but I’m rounding up.
    • 1.0 miles (grass)

    Saturday 9th

Too hot for the planned tempo by the time I got out just after midday so did my long run instead. In and around Santry demesne and Northwood. Really enjoyed this, ignored the watch and went by effort, keeping it easy throughout and pleasantly surprised after with an average pace of just over 9 min/miles.
    • 8.8 miles (path, tarmac, trail)

    Sunday 10th

Too hot for anything other than a plod up and down the promenade.
    • 6.0 miles (path, grass)
    TOTAL WEEKLY MILES : 31.6

    Monday 11th

Wasn’t feeling fab yesterday and ended up with a scratchy throat and earache on Sunday evening. Didn’t sleep well Sunday night and now have the sniffles and a bit of a cough. Not terribly sick but at the same time not well enough to run. Rest so .

    Tuesday 12th – Sunday 17th

Couldn’t shake the dose and didn’t feel 100% for most of week. Not a total write off in that I made it to Pilates, got an easy jog as well as a go of the shot putt (:pac:) on Thursday and a very short jog on Friday. Got given out to by the physio for doing the shot putt :D. The weekend was a write off with BG Jr away on a camping trip so there was much eating and drinking to fill the void left by her absence :D:D.

Next week will be better. Could hardly be worse.

Hope you're feeling better soon G.

Well done on all your podiums ... could you be signing up tot IMRA for the Winter league?

I had a go at the shot putt recently, it's great fun isn't it?

Thanks, S. Grand now :D. More to the point how are you after your epic adventure ?

Used to do the IMRA races but was always twisting my ankles so I prefer to jog leisurely on the hills rather than race now. The trail or Spring league might be an option though!

Always good to try something new but I'm not a thrower :o. After giving out to me for participating, my physio told me shot putt 'is all in the glutes', and shook her head sadly at me :pac::pac:
