First one was amazing, absolutely loved it....so much better than that Jake Gyllenhal one that came out around the same time (though that was also pretty OK).

Looking forward to this. I hope there's a training montage set in the Russian wilderness. :)

Guy doesn't look anything like Drago/Lundgren.

This could wreck the franchise if they mess it up

    Last film was great.

Rocky 4 was my favourite, so really looking forward to it.

It has that same look n feel. They're hardly gonna copy the story?

No but the storyline will be pretty predictable I bet, Drago Jnr taunts Creed Jnr over the death of his father saying he will do the same to him, yadda yadda yadda, Stallone and Drago Snr exchange some taunts, yadda yadda, Creed wins exacting revenge on the Drago family or whatever you wanna call that...

Now if its anything other than the above, I'll be happy :pac::P

    Solid Trailer.

Anyone else think the first movie is over rated? I watched it for a second time the other week. It's decent, but it's 30 minutes too long. There are some ridiculously cringey scenes, like when he's running with bikers, wtf was that about?

Anyway, hoping the sequel is better.

YES!! Apart from that scene, its a pretty good film.

    Looking forward to this one.

It looks good, but I'm slightly worried about the change in director. Ryan Coogler nailed it with the first Creed, but had to skip the sequel for Blank Panther. Hope this new guy is up to the task, and also that the fights won't be as ridiculous as the Rocky IV ones!

That was to do with Philadelphia, the locals in the streets would be on their scramblers and stuff, would be known for it, think it was to show his connection with the city, the same way rocky used to run through the crowds in the streets, the inner city has changed but they still get behind their fighter in their way.. That's what I took from that scene anyway...

    Rocky looks
like he's coming down with a brain disease or one that affects his motor functions

    Saw this today

Pretty good movie with great boxing action with simple enough story but little pedictable tbh

Rocky 4 is in a different league to this and should not be compared

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

They showed a fight scene on Graham Norton. It looked like they CGI'd both boxers in some parts of the sequence. That's disappointing if true.

Saw it last night, thought the first Creed movie was better but it's still an enjoyable addition to the series. Felt a bit too derivative of Rocky 3 and 4 for it's own good.

Good film. Went by quick enough. And they didn't drag out the scenes, got on with it when they had to. And the acting was good as well.

    I would recommend it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

Enjoyed it, good performances and they managed to do a good job with what I'd imagine was a much requested storyline. Drago is a man-mountain (a man of few words too)!

Fight scenes very visceral - completely over the top and basically how I play the Fight Night video game series, but it wouldn't be as interesting to see a tactical bout.
You know how it's going to play out, but it's a Rocky film and enjoyable nonetheless.

    🤪

Creed II felt on a similar level to the first movie, solid storyline, direction and acting but too safe for my liking nothing you haven't seen before for a modern day Rocky spin-off

Compared in what way? That Creed II is a significantly better movie?

That’s why I enjoyed it. They don’t have to re-invent the wheel and there’s some Franchises that are enjoyable for their familiarity.

My friend turned to me after it and said “how did that need a writer, it was rocky 4 remade!” But we both enjoyed it.

If that is it for him then I really wish they'd
had him make up with his family off-screen between Creed 1 and 2 and then killed him off in Creed 2. Felt like a hell of a lot of Creed 2 was dedicated to Rocky's own personal issues despite him supposedly being in the "Mick" role.

I don't think Creed can go on without Rocky, he's the best thing about it

That's not the first time Stallone has said that.

Good film but definitely falls short of the first one, it's far more predictable and cliche......Team Drago are just as one-dimensional as Dolph was back in Rocky IV; that might have been fine in the 80s but it doesn't really work so well in 2018.

Still though, there's plenty to like in there too, the boxing scenes are exciting and sometimes brutal - though just not as grounded or realistic as the first film -and the drama in between flows pretty well.

A decent sequel to a great film, really. Could've been slightly better but still a solid film.

How is Rocky 4 in a different league?

Rocky 4 was one of the worst of the franchise despite its financial success.

RT ratings give Rocky 4 a 38% positive rating which is poor.

Creed II for which Rocky 4 is the backstory, so it's right to compare it has been much better received, 83% so I do not get how you can say Rocky 4 is in another league.

Felt it was a bit overlong tbh. Too many plot strands in the one movie, it's really setting up Creed III
Where Viktor Drago wins the belt fair and square and Ivan Drago gives a eulogy at Rocky's funeral. Creed will retire when he realises he cares more about raising his daughter than being in the ring, learning from the mistakes Rocky made with his own kid. Rocky's kid will have made peace with him by then and Rocky will be living with them when he passes away

rocky 4 is awful but i still find it immensely enjoyable :pac:, its one of the great bad movies

Seen this last night and felt it was decent but not quite as good as the first one. Thought it started well and ended well but dragged a bit in the middle. Personally I would have killed Rocky off in this movie - it would have added a real kick to it and if there will be a third it would've been great to see how it would affect Adonis.

There were some really good scenes in this - might not be as good as it could've been but it's still well worth a watch.

Stallone's beard :pac: He reminded me of late-Beatles Paul McCartney on steroids! I'd love to know how much baby oil was used in the making of that movie :D

After the terrible reviews of Coming 2 America I abandoned it in favour of watching Creed 2 for the first time last night

    Loved it!

Probably even more than the first as it ticked more nostalgic Rocky points for me. A really fun, tight movie

Stallone is a little under-rated as an actor I feel, especially with his performance as the character he's best known for. His parts talking about proposing to Adrian and the hospital dialogue with Creed especially

Creed 3 is going ahead I see, with no confirmation of Sly in it yet. He's at the heart of these films though

No Rocky means me, and I suspect many others, would abandon this series
