I'm living off the Knorr Mushroom Pasta that you can keep in your press for a year. I had a few packets let.

I have to find some real food today.

Just as well I have a bug and have no appetite

Also just out of Lemsip as well.

    How bad are the roads?

I live in a rural area and there is drifts of sow 4feet on some of the roads. But I always think I could walk the 3 miles to the shop if things got awful bad. Depends now on will they get deliveries.

A litre of milk lasts me a week or so... bought a loaf of bread Thurs...half it left...all you need are potatoes, meat and freeze some bits....I've enough to keep me going until next week.

I shop for a week. It lasts for a week. Lemsip I always have enough for a week (colds generally last longer than a day). How anyone can run out of anything essential after 2 days (that didn't come out of nowhere) is beyond me.

It happens when you dont get a cold until the second day of the snow.

Some people dont go out stocking up on medicines, they just buy when needed.

Doing ok, we’ll need something by tomorrow I’d say though. The 1 year old is a fussy eater and lives on toast, we’ll try get a loaf today or at least some flour to bake a loaf (we had less flour than we thought).
Freezer food will last is until Monday I'd say.

I'm about that from the shop too, similar road conditions too, weak as water so not a hope I'd risk that Baltic wind, should be ok out there tomorrow right !!

    Grand here.

I was diagnosed with type II diabetes last year and went low carb, low cal. So I'm not reliant on the likes of bread, rice & pasta and don't take milk in my coffee.

Although the rest of the family are on reduced rations from today.

If the worse comes to the worse I've two dogs and a cat ~ the cat will be eaten first.

I stocked up on pretty much everything on Wednesday.
Still have 2 cartons of milk unopened, 3 sliced pans in the freezer along with loads of meat. I bought plenty of bake at home rolls too so fresh rolls every day with soup.
We could easily survive another 10 days without worry.
I've also got an almost full coal bunker, loads of kerosene, and 3 bags of turf left.
I'm a smug old git really!

There is a big chest freezer in our shed, finally getting to reduce the stock in it.
But milk is running low. And booze.

I always have bread and bagels in the freezer. Soy milk or cashew nut type milk in the fridge, they have a long expiry...Once I have toast and oat porridge I can happily live away..

My sisters house was a joke with the amount of food she bought.

    1 egg, 1 banana, 1 scoop of coconut : whizz together ,cook on pan = 1pancake !!

Or just 1 egg & a splash of milk , 1 small scoop of flour , cook on pan = 1 pancake !!

As simple as making toast :D

I picked up 2 litres of milk and two loaves on Wednesday morning so I was sorted. I made a pot of veg stew last Sunday as I knew it would be handy. Still no pressure to go out but I'm sure I will tomorrow.

I just about have enough food and water but I really had to ration everything. I have a cold now too but thankfully I have plenty of paracetamol. Hopefully I can get to the shop tomorrow as I'm still snowed in at the moment.

Plenty of everything except bread. Sure, aren't we being forced to stock up with all types of crap anyhow, what with the €10 off Dunnes Stores spend.
    Dr Oetker's on special at €2 in Tesco......Pepperoni today.....Mmmmm!

Stocked up last weekend after we were all warned about the weather. Freezer is still 3/4 full. Reckon I’d have enough bread and food for another week or so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,200 ✭✭✭appledrop

We would be ok till Monday as stocked up last weekend + got bread + milk on Wednesday. However I hate been limited to what I can eat+ serious case of cabin fever so will walk to shop today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,088 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Thaw is setting in here today so part of me want to go dig out the car and do some shopping..

Against that though is the thoughts of overcrowded and half-empty shops because of people not thinking ahead.

Hmm.. what to do, what to do...

Can you walk Kaiser? I want to escape the house so even if very little in shops when I get there I will be glad of the bit of exercise+ fresh air even if it is still freezing.

    Yes seems daft.

Like have they not got - tuna , rice, beans, eggs , flour, pasta.

We knew it was coming and you could get a little bit extra if you had time.

3/4 of the people in the queue are just daft

My heating is on 3 hours a day at the moment, 6 lots of 30mins, scattered thru the evening and night. The fire is lit in the morning and kept to a level of just about going, slightly topping it up every now and then. Handy for warming up the kids when in on breaks from playing in the snow.
Not sure what energy rating is but it's sure to be good enough.

Yea I have to admit, although I've quite enjoyed not having to do the daily commute the last few days, cabin fever is starting to set in.

Went for a walk to the local shop on Thursday but it was hugely unpleasant with icy roads and sideways snow in your face. For a bigger shop though I'd need the car as Dunnes is the other side of town.

I went to local shop yesterday just to get out of the house & buy little ones a treat. Was freezing but nice to get a walk in. Mad queue in shop but people were mainly buying biscuits, cake & a few getting milk. Don’t think those queues signify lack of preparedness for the bad weather but more growing cabin fever!

I had the heat on low most of yesterday, and a fair bit over the last few days. Older rented house and the insulation wasn't great to start with.

The gas bill will be interesting, but I have it on that level-pay thing so not worried.. it'll sort itself out over the next few months when it'd hardly on at all.

Yea I was thinking that but I may just get a few bits in the local again so and leave the rest for Monday or something.

I have milk, dinners and bread :D It's the snacking over the last few days that's killing me. That and I have a sweet tooth anyway.

I'm dreading my next gas bill. Unfortunately I don't get a top up on my wages to cover extra heating costs. I'd barely paid the last one. What's the level pay thing you're on?

"Don't stuff the freezer with your stupid meal preps" he said a while ago.
Guess who's happy now that it's not only pasta with spread (he refuses to buy the real deal because it doesn't spread that well...).

We can't even get out of our estate, send help or read about an axe murder soon.

All good here in wicklow hills. Did full weeks shopping on wednesday and still fine for things food related. 40KG coal half a tank of Kero left. Cars are still stuck in 4+ foot snow and roads about same but I see a JCB down the street working away. if it's like 2010, we got together and paid that guy 300 euro to clear the entire street.
