Just want you're thoughts on macra na feirme please... Have been considering joining in Mayo. I have suffered from anxiety all my life & am making a big effort to get out more. I still have been finding it really hard to make any friends. I wonder if macra group might be to much for me or not..

Have heard great things about the easy going, social aspects of macra.
Have never been a member myself, but know a few members and they have a great time out of it.
It's definitely not just for people involved with agriculture anyways!
    Give it a chance.

Macra was great craic back in the day. We travelled the country doing plays, getting a bus to a place in the middle of no where to go a disco. Queen of the land in Athboy was a monster occasion. Hundreds at it, and the majority of them lads would be shy too, the only company some of the lads I went with, was their animals on the farm. The cows/sheep/dog doesn't usually talk back when you say something. I say go for it.

I joined Macra about 8 years ago in the hopes that I'd make more friends/overcome shyness. I found it great and ended up making a friends not just in my own club, but with people we'd meet in national events like queen of the land. My club was also big into the Macra public speaking and drama competitions - I didn't participate in the drama, but found the public speaking to be really good for increasing my confidence more generally.
Maybe contact your local macra and see what they do? Most branches tend to have a facebook page these days, too. Good luck!

You don't have to take part in those if you don't want to. I joined macra three years ago and have made some really great friends out of it. I wouldn't be into drama or public speaking, like you that would scare me, but have taken part in the sporting and charity/ fundraising side.

Its good fun OP, I'd say give it a go!

Go for it OP! I have been a member on (and mainly off lately!) these last few years but really do love it. There are aspects of it that wouldn't be for me but there are also aspects that are.
ALL clubs that I have encountered are loving and welcoming. It will do you wonders.....and if worse comes to worse and you don't enjoy it. You will still get the benefits of the membership card etc for a year!
