Loads of potential reasons. Your username if either accurate or used in jest in an email address would be one!

Huge numbers apply for these positions and some sort of shortlisting procedure will apply to cull numbers before interview.
Eg. They might not interview anyone without previous bus driving experience, or with points on their licence.

The online assessment is used to cull a large amount of applicants tbh. Aircoach is also hiring.

I have experience and a clean licence.

    They were just random examples.
I don't know what criteria bus eireann may have applied.

BE seems to be where the money is at, but if already employed as a bus driver it may be easier to make the jump.

Just re apply with a different email if you really want the job and consider possible mistakes you could have made on the assessment.

    I submitted a handwritten application.
Can’t see where I went wrong with the assessment bar having it done in 15 minutes.

Sometimes marks are allocated to due timings.

Don't be too disheartened. Everyone can't be interviewed.

Have a look at continental companies. Some seek drivers for the summer months. See Europe and get paid can't be all bad. If you have a couple of years experience should help.

Op I should have asked are you under 25?

Age shouldn't be a barrier so.

Driving on the continent is no big deal, the rules of the road are actually enforced though. You should think about it.

    €10 P/H?

My daughter gets that for making beds in a hotel. Pretty poor wage for a professional driver in charge of the public.

Done the online assessment myself last week and was in to get my details taking in Jurys a few weeks ago
Have not heard a word back or a letter as of yet

I like yourself am in my twenties
    Clean DE And CE Licence
All the other cards to go with them

Personally i am sick of interviews and applying to places
The money on offer in most is a joke
Especially for the work involved in most jobs
Driver shortage and they wont take people on without 2 to 5 years experience
Dont want to train you, expect you to know everything

I am not complaining by any means,Just my experience

They are looking for heavy vehicle mechanics as well.

Bernard Kavanagh in Urlingford is apparently looking for drivers too I heard. No harm in calling them.

Why not try Go-Ahead Dublin,if you're in the Dublin region ?

Ye its hard to know what most are offering though as they dont disclose information until u send a cv or contact them
Was the opposite for me,done the trucks first and seen how bad they were unless you knew somebody, found it was all a click,15 hour days for day rates
Only recently got the coach licence and done a few runs for a few diferent fellas at it
I taugt having the artic licence might go for me looking for bus eireann
    Obviously not ha

Didn't think it was apprentices that they were looking for.

If you are looking at privates I'd say Go-ahead might be the best bet obviously not as good as BE or DB but since they'll be operating PSO routes you're wages, overtime and conditions may be a little bit better than privates which are non-PSO.

After Go-Ahead take up the routes it wouldn't surprise if DB will be hiring again in the new year as I'd say they'd be looking what's needed once GA take up the soon to be ex DB routes.

Attitude can play a big part when a prospective employer assesses an applicant.

For example, most large Bus & Coach operators now regard possession of the D licence as somewhat less of an issue than having a ability to interact and respond to people, when in different pressurized situations.

Driving can be taught, whereas socialization and the ability to be resilient and understanding is often a very difficult element for many to master.

If a reported basic wage of "up to" €32,000 PA ,along with elements like a Pension Scheme is below your own expectations, then simply don't apply and move on to the next best thing.

While there is indeed a shortage of qualified Busdrivers,it can not be inferred that this will mean Operators feel the need to lower their own recruitment standards as a response.

Keep it lit and press on regardless.

32k a year sounds ok for a private operator as I said it might be the best private bus company pay wise compared to BE/DB

I would say Aircoach and Go-Ahead are your best bet, Aircoach are said to be the best payers out of the private operators who are currently recruiting, although apparently it's a sliding scale that increases with service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 steevem23

yes Aircoach would be the best in the private sector, be warned though they will put you on the bendy bus for at least 6 months before they would let you drive the blue coach

TBH, at 26 I would advise you to rethink your choice of career. There are so many options available.

As a current BÉ employee at this age, I second this opinion.

Unless you have a hard on to drive a bus just for the love of it and take abuse from a lot of people, find a different career path. If it means going to college etc then I'd be doing that rather than this job.
