    Looking forward to this

Not on at 7.30 so Twitter said it'd be 8.30..

    .. and still not on.

BBC NI screwing with time again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭onlyonpaper

Thanks to the athletics it was shown on BBC4 which I stumbled across. Won’t give results as I think it’s shown on the regular channel tomorrow night

Feck, was away for two weeks, this completely passed me by! (although by the sounds of it even if I'd set it to record I'd still have missed it)

    How much have I missed???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,165 ✭✭✭stargazer 68

Only 3 episodes so not much

    Anyone watching tonight?

Some interesting cooks in it this week - especially that Cornwall lady with the headband - hope she doesn't crash and burn tonight!

Also the fella from Newcastle who got through on his Geordie chicken burger

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,043 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Jaypers, I thought when he said "make me a pie" he meant... well.... "make me a pie". Not a full pie 'n' three veg 'n' spuds meal!

    Silly me!

After the first two, I wonder did anyone take him literally? Cos they'll be dying inside if they did :eek:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 587 ✭✭✭twill

Anthony from Newcastle was pretty lucky to get through, but I suppose it came down to the fact that they were iffy about his dessert whereas John actively disliked Kate's. Poor Kate.

Yeah, I think he'll be fascinating - but I think he'd better sidle over to the more conventional side of things for a bit, he'll go too far one of these days!

Poor Kate indeed - can't say her tart appealed to me at all, either in appearance or description.

All gone very quiet on here lately!

Anyone else tuning in this week?

Yep got it on now. Sizing them up :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 587 ✭✭✭twill

That was a really strong group. Two or three serious contenders, I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,043 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Some fairly wacky combinations in tonight's market test!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,043 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

I always have a soft spot for any Irish contestants in this...... but Lucy looks and sounds like she's given up before she starts!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,754 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

Definitely the weirdest flavours in the market test so far- salmon with a pear and blue cheese quiche- wut??!
I know they don't know what exactly will be in the market, but those making food they've never tried cooking before are skating close to the wind. There's brave and there's foolhardy.

I assumed he just meant a pie, ooops!

Can't believe tomorrow is the last night of the heats! It's flown in.

Just to note that this week's quarter final will be screened on Sunday at 8 p.m. instead of tomorrow.

Sorry, ignore me! Tonight's the quarter final, don't know why it's on Sunday as well.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,754 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

Is it not on tonight too, though?

Oops, it's actually the quarter final tonight. Apologies! Don't know why it's on Sunday as well.

    Who???

    Never heard of him!

    This should be interesting.....

ETA - aha, I know his face from the Chef's Table rounds, never knew his name though!

    Or.....maybe I don't.....

    I'll shut up now.

Had a big dinner in the last hour, feeling slightly queasy now looking at all these breakfasts

    Oh poor Lynn!!!! :(

Oh, I hate the restaurant episodes.

I'm glad for Nisha but I was rooting for Lynn.

The civvie restaurant episodes aren't as completely ridiculous as the celebrity ones!

I was rooting for Lynn as well. But yer man with the eggshell breakfasts - that was clever.

Nisha has a very high opinion of herself (deservedly so, in fairness!)

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,754 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

    Nisha is fantastic!

Yeah, I thought the eggshells were a great idea- although I wouldn't like to have eaten them myself!!

I don't understand Simon's decision to do a Peking duck pie. It sounds just awful. He's really been promising but he's in danger here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,165 ✭✭✭stargazer 68

Don't think any of them are Doing well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 587 ✭✭✭twill

Yes, think Simon will scrape through because at least the execution was good if not the idea, whereas others didn't get the cooking right.

    Some good looking plates tonight!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 587 ✭✭✭twill

There's some real talent starting to show itself.

I felt for Alex, she was evidently devastated not to be going through. Crossing fingers for her.

David is impressive. He started off doing some quite crazy stuff but he's evidently comfortable with classic cooking as well.

    Lucky girl then.

Thai guy is flashy...but has he cooked European food yet ?

Was Masterchef on tonight. I had it set to record all episodes on Virgin but it keeps missing episodes on me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,165 ✭✭✭stargazer 68

It was I’m afraid, at 7:30pm. Want to know what happened? Or I think they do a recap at weekend if you prefer to wait!

The timing is driving me crazy. Can't they decide on one time? Anything between 7:30 and 9 pm makes it hard to follow :(

Yeah, the scheduling is all over the place. At the end of last Friday night's episode the continuity announcer said the next episode was on Wednesday night =/

Hard to choose between any of these. They are all great!

Yep. Love nawamin..his food looks amazing. I love Thailand:)

What is helping Thai guy here is that John is an expert on Thai food, and he is cooking it very well. He is getting stronger with every round and certain others are falling back into the pack. He has a great week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,043 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

David had a bit of a speed-wobble last night

    As did Kenny.

Both were saved on the night by Greg's concoction - what on EARTH was he thinking???:eek::eek: I couldn't believe how non-scathing all the critics and John/Greg were about it - it looked like a bowl of baby food with gravy with meat plonked on top. If that appeared in the very first round I reckon he'd have been run out of town. Most bizarre. Anyway, he's been sailing very close to the wind the last good few rounds, so his time had definitely come.

Actually Alex's dish looked very like a competent first or second round plate too - nothing at all wrong with it, but very unexciting. I think she may be thankful to Greg as well!

Moonira's scotch eggs and rice - OMG, they looked utterly gawjus!

Nawamin - what to say? He's out there. Waaaay out there. But the boy can certainly cook.

Completely O/T - anyone else find themselves totally distracted by Moonira's hair? I'm killed trying to figure out the physics of it - where does it all start and end? It's like an immovable helmet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,165 ✭✭✭stargazer 68

Lol mooniras hair is driving me nuts. It looks like a really bad comb over. Someone take her and do something with it!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,754 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

I'm glad I'm not the only one distracted by her hair! :pac:

I think the combination of not having a lot of time to produce a dish, pressure to get into finals week and the stress of John and Gregg wailing at them every 5 seconds did not help on Friday.

I like Kenny, but seriously- that steak needed chips or mash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 587 ✭✭✭twill

Nawamin hasn't put a foot wrong yet. I wasn't a fan of his crab dish, but there wasn't anything wrong with it as such. He's the major favourite unless he slips up.

Kenny and Alex showed poor judgement in their choices though there was nothing wrong with their cooking. They're both vulnerable when it comes to the next elimination.

David is interesting - his first dishes were really off the wall, but now he's just staying in the competition by being competent and boring. He could be saving some spectacular stuff for the final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭melmoth77

Back on 9pm tonight. Just to say I am also fascinated with Moonira’s hair, especially after running around a hot kitchen for hours! Her or Nawamin for the win I think, but any of them could really...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,043 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Delighted to hear I'm not the only one driven to distraction by Moonira's hair :D

I have a slight love/hate relationship with beetroot, but that first course sounds amazing!

"Sloe berries aren't tasty. They're 'orrible"

    :D

Pretty much knew what they were cooking before they showed it..

They certainly look more impressive than they sound.. but cutting a single scallop into four? C'mon......
