Midst or Mists of time?

Which do you say? I'd always thought it was 'in the midst of time' but got corrupted to 'mist'. midst meaning moment. So 'lost in the midst of time' would be another way of saying 'lost in the moment'. Maybe a vote might convince me otherwise.
