Hardy seems a much better fit than Topher Grace.

When are they gonna say one way or the other if Spidey is in it?

Damn. I have an eight year old obsessed with him. He won't shut up about it for months if he sees this is coming.

Isn’t this supposed to be a hard R rated horror film?

A spider man villian in a world without Spider man ???

Big rumours that it's part of the MCU but going on the direction of all the MCU Netflix series where it's not really affecting the main MCU story??

Really Really want this to be good, but I have a nagging feeling they won't be able to get the character right, not just visually.

They can't really go the anti-hero route like Deadpool so it'll be very interesting to see how they set up Venom and then how they use him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭Falthyron

How long has it been the case that we need a five second burst-montage to grab our attention before the trailer actually begins? Have we become so moronic, so distracted by anything, that we need a super-cut (usually of explosions and action) to get our attention?

When that happens it makes me think: "Quick, kids! Look what's coming! Be ready!"

Trailers worked perfectly fine in the past with a proper introduction.

Anyway, I like Hardy as an actor, but I don't know anything really about Venom. He's the extra-dimensional virus/bug thing that comes to blows with Spiderman, right? I vaguely remember him having a black suit and long tongue in the old cartoon series I used to watch.

Why wouldn't they go the anyti hero route? Venom was always more anti-hero than straight up villain from what I remember.

Either way that trailer looks bland as hell.

    Not a great trailer.

Needed a good money shot at the end. Eddie Brock shaking his head and going nuts isn't something that makes you go "WOW, now I want to see that!"

Just a quick question,is the picture in the background in the cat scan room taken in Ireland, looks a lot like the lake and valley used in Vikings.

Mountains in that pic look a fair bit steeper and bigger than where Vikings is filmed.

Too big to embed but this is the spot in wicklow you're thinking of I think: https://i0.wp.com/atriptoireland.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Lough-Tay-Viking-Set-2013.jpg

Apparently, it's something to do with how the trailers can pop up as ads on youtube/phone apps and they are trying to make sure people don't skip them. Still really irritating though.

That might be the most generic trailer ever.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,977 ✭✭✭HandsomeBob

Some can get away with the less is more approach, others need to come flying out of the traps from the off. This teaser should have been the latter.

Seen some bloke on Facebook refer to it as one of those shat fan made YT trailers.....he's not far off.

They probably don't have the CGI looking anywhere decent, so held off on a proper money shot.

Looks pretty bland, but i'm ok waiting for a better trailer.

You'd have to think, cut off from the MCU and with a side character most people haven't heard of, they'll be under more pressure to need to sell this to audiences than other comic book stuff. They've certainly time enough to still get people interested though.

But yeah, that was nothing in particular.
If it wasn't for gratuitous exploding SUVs it could've been a trailer one of those spooooky psychological thrillers I don't like.

    Also, his voice/accent was annoying.
His own voice is fine, but I don't think I've liked him putting on non-english accents.

Admittedly, I've got Bane and this to go on from memory but it's not much.

It is a teaser and for a teaser it did a good job, much better than the solo trailer IMO, I dont want them giving away Vemon's look too early before the VFX are finalised.

Venom transcended being a Spider-man villain though, due to his popularity in the 90's, so should be able to carry a franchise by himself. He's gone from being majorly over-used to criminally under-used by Marvel, so hard to gauge his popularity as he's no longer a household name. But in saying that, from a story point of view, hard to see how he can tackle Carnage without Spider-mans help.

Sam Rockwell's performance as 'Wild Bill' in the Green Mile would have been perfect for Cletus Cassidy

Trailer was "ok", I reckon the theory that the cgi work on Venom isn't complete could be accurate. I'd rather wait and see a proper Venom than have a laughing-stock Commodore 64 effort flying around the screen.

The thinking is we'll get a first glimpse at him in the Comic Con trailer.

Also, here's an improved poster done by the awesome BossLogic

Ok, watched that a fair few times.

Trailer due in a few hours / early tommorrow so I'd say it'll stay up.

Only 8 seconds but it's definitely a money shot. Looking at the replies... That Venom Vs current Spiderman! I assume in a different film later on.

Worst part of the trailer... Venom face.

Also... Is that how symbiote is pronounced?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,977 ✭✭✭HandsomeBob

Wasn't mad about the anti hero line anyway. Very subtle.

Effects look quite rough at this stage but plenty of time to fix that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,775 ✭✭✭✭Gbear

I thought someone had overdubbed it, like the guys from Bad Lip-reading, because Hardy sound silly and the dialogue is just terrible. I can't believe a person wrote it, and then it was never changed at any stage before making it on screen.

Visually it might be a bit of fun, so there's that. Maybe just mute it...

How she pronounced it as Sim-Bye-Ote annoyed me way more than it should :pac: it's Sim-Bee-Ote FFS.

I liked the look of Venom but agree I don't like the anti- hero angle. I guess they figure that's how they will carry it without an actual hero in the film, setting up to be fighting Carnage hopefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,775 ✭✭✭✭Gbear

Also, for some reason it seems like they lifted the music for the trailer directly from Infinity War.
It's not just some coincidence. It's exactly the same, except maybe a key lower.

Not entirely sure as I only watched it once this morning, but I think she said it both ways. The first time with the former, and the second with the latter. There's a sound effect slightly obscuring the dialogue, so I may have been mistaken.

What does it mean "in association with Marvel". Normally the non-Marvel Studio films just have the "Marvel" title card, with nothing else. Does the fact it says "in association with" mean they are working alongside Marvel Studios with this being an indirect extension of the MCU in some way?

    Looks decent to me anyway.

He seems more like Carnage than venom in a powers sense to me.
As in maybe to get around not having Spiderman in the film and inheriting his powers i.e wall crawling and webbing (although technically Spiderman makes his own).
They seem have given him Carnages powers with the projecting stuff from his body.

Venom could always shoot strands out of any part of his body to strike an object, stick it to things or pull them. He doesn't have the finesse or ability to leave these strands sticking out of his body for any length of time and to turn them into weapons.

Venom looks like something from the playstation 2  . The CGI is awful looking

The voice for Venom sounds a little like Lance Reddick.

The film looks interesting. I don't know very much about Venom, but I like Hardy and the film looks like it could be fun. Not expecting miracles or profundity might help its cause.

Very generic looking - Lab accident gone wrong, man develops "powers" and is pursued by bad guys to obtain these "powers" at all costs.

Not only that, but, to me, the trailer looked like something from the 90s. My Spidey-sense is picking up a turkey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

He looks and sounds like Bunchy from Ray Donovan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

I thought it looked quite good, has definitely got my attention now. Also that 'We Are Venom' dialogue finish is better than most things Marvel try to finish their trailers with, really well executed. I like the 'wet' look on Venom rather than a different colour Spiderman look.

Oh my favorite type of baddie in a super hero movie.

    Corporate Dude'

That will undoubtedly transform into some crappy looking cgi monster for the finale!

    Exciting.

I can't remember: has it been confirmed whether or not this will be part of the MCU, or even some variant of the Spiderverse? If not, then I presume they're just going to try and sidestep past the fact the Venom 'suit' is meant to be a corruption of Spider-Man's.

The trailer was OK, but nothing special and about as ... obligated and uninspired as all the other Sony superhero flicks. The bike stunt was a bit naff.

Its sort of in between its not an MCU film but apparently might have connections with Spider-man so its a Spider Verse film that may or may not have connections with Spider-man.

Favourite Childhood Character ruined in 5..4..3..2..1

Poor attempt to Copy Fox's R rated Deadpool knowing that venom along with all other Spider Man characters will ultimately be handed back to Marvel after this flops hard...I feel bad for Tom Hardy..and hope Tom Holland knows to keep far, far away from this
