    Hello ,

I live near Knock in co.Mayo and I’m getting around 5mb on a three dongle but it can go down to less than 1mb . I’ve asked imagine and they said I can get a service . Does anyone know what it’s like in this area or should I get it ?

Ive taken a look at that . The three connection isn’t the best but do you think the slow downs with imagine are worth it ?

If you are getting 5mb on a dongle, you get much better speed with Huawei B525, put the router outside, whatever speed you get you will get it if you buy an antenna

I have a Huawei b315-22s. 5 mb is the average but sometimes I can get up to 20mb . Would an antenna stabalize this ?

Put the router where you think you are going to put the antenna, whatever speed you get there, that is what the antenna will give you, the antenna improves the signal not the contention.

Thanks , what antenna should I get ?

If you're peaking at 20Mb then contention is your issue, not connection. An antenna is a total waste.

Imagine might help if your area isnt oversubscribed.

    Hiya,

Normally your "bars" shouldnt change much at all. Speeds change, not signal. What that suggests is the network may punt you off one cell to another at peak to distribute load.

Using a directional antenna you may be able to override this behavior as you'll make one very strong and the other very weak but that doesnt mean your experience will be better. If the controller is pushing you off a busy cell forcing yourself back on may slow things. You can experiment and it might help, but it might not.

If you can see this screen try screenshotting it in both conditions:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=135412&d=1406360299

I can't seem to be able to find what cell i'm on with my router all i can see is the device name and the Imei.
Would getting the Huawei b525 help this?

Hi , I can't see the screen that you are on about but , would the antenna help with Ping as i'm on ethernet but when playing online games it can go up to 1000ms ping , I am also upgrading to the Huawei B525 if that will make a difference

If you can't provide any hard info its not really possible to advise you what will and won't help.

On a busy cell the 315 and 525 will perform identically. You can try antennas or you can find your connection stats.

I have found that the only way to get my connection stats on my router is if i downgrade my firmware

Any luck checking if you can get real fibre or not? Imagine LTE can offer an improvement if your lucky to be in an area where there aren't many subscribers to the service.

It's pot luck which mast your connected to. Some of them have great service with speeds of 30 to 70 megs, others have terrible speeds ranging from dial up speeds to 30 megs.
