Irish TV shows

    Hi all

A friend of mine over in the US caught a quick glimpse of the first episode of Bracken and loved it. She asked me to recommend more Irish TV shows. So far I have:

    Obviously, Bracken
    Glenroe
    The Riordans
Ros na Rún (for the Irish speaking)

Is there anything else? I don't think there's very many shows but I'm just wondering if there's another couple that I've missed?

    Thanks:)

Soupy Norman is possibly the best home made* thing I've seen on Irish TV. Surreal and fcken hilarious.

*Of course by Home Made, I mean foreign show dubbed over by Irish comedians. I know Barry Murphy from Apres Match was involved, not sure who else was.

Ballykissangel was also the BBC. However I think it’s what the op’s friends are liking for.

I'm not even being sarcastic when I say that for pure entertainment value, Quizone is one of the best things RTE has ever produced.

Probably not the kind of thing you're looking for but there was a series called 'Hands' on RTE years ago (late seventies to early eighties I think). There are some full versions of it on YouTube.

the Angelus . I dont see it to often but it seems to revolve around outdoor stuff . A lot of the episodes seem to be about fellas out fishing , doing sand sculpture and planting flowers

Who the hell is behind Striking Out?

Because that's exactly how life is in Dublin- penthouse apartments, not a junkie in sight and no rubbish on the street.

I'd slip in the sally O'Brien ad, and the ahhhh that's bass ad too :D not forgetting the carling black lable ad. All classics.

    Couched.

Surreal sketch show from 2000. Fairly patchy, occasionally brilliant and without a doubt one of the weirdest thing RTE has produced.
