    ?

    Had it a month now.

    Doctor says it's rampant.

Not flu, but sore throat followed by chest infection, followed by feeling very low in energy.

Affected my hearing in one ear too.

    Ggggrrrrrr.....!

I picked up some sort of a thing over Christmas and it took me nearly 3 weeks to shake it entirely. There's definitely a bad dose going around this winter.

My sister's family, it came, stayed, sort of went then came back. As I write went away again.

I've had an on-and-off sore throat (or more where the back of the mouth joins the throat) for about 3 weeks now. It feels like it's threatening to turn into something but never actually does. As I 'm typing this, I realise it seems to have gone...

I got a nasty cold over new years.
Was feeling sick for almost 2 weeks and had a sore throat for over 3 weeks.

Comforting to hear I'm not alone.

The common complaint is not that people have had a bug, but how long it lasts.

After a couple of weeks you can function again, but very much below par.

Yep... have had a constant heavy rattle in the chest since before Christmas. Sometimes it was a struggle to draw breath. Have been on inhalers, steroids and anti-biotics. While It has greatly improved in the past week or so, it's not gone yet. Latest complication is that I now have bunged up hearing with ringing in the ears.

It's not flu, but it certainly takes a very long time to shift.

Yeah a few weeks now, very frustrating. Was on antibiotics for a week which helped immensely. Thought I'd go mad from the coughing

    Exactly!

Ringing in my left ear and almost total loss of hearing in it too.

Doctor says my ear looks fine, but something is blocked in it. When I swallow/yawn, it doesn't "click", if that makes sense.

I got it about two weeks ago. Pretty bad head cold, followed by chest infection and extremely low energy (kind of viral infection type symptoms). Only started to feel normal energy levels now but still coughing a lot.

Cut up 3-4 cloves of garlic in to thin slices, leave them there for about 5 minutes, then down them things with water. Don't chew so your breath won't reek of it. Spend a few days doing this. Do it every winter. Helps liquefy all that rough $hit in your chest. Try not to cut yourself because it liquefy's/thins blood big time too.

Yep. Had it beginning of December, was really sick. Then it came back a couple of weeks later. Now I'm getting sick again just when I thought it was better. My whole body is aching today. Yock.

I've been feeling bad for more than a month now. Had a rotten chest infection just before christmas, didn't clear up till the new year, since then just been feeling thoroughly off colour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭BeerFarts

Yep, I've had what seems like multiple hits of it. My left ear is fecked aswell. It's so bloody annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

Cold at the start of December for a few days, headache, sore throat, lethargy, etc. Then into cough which I have had since, only clearing for a couple of days on about two occasions, have also had a day of blocked ears.

Have been on a few cough bottles, sweets, paracetamol when it was at its worse, and a course of antibiotics.

    Still not clear.

    :(

Had a cold in November, developed into a bad chest infection, missed a week of school. Came back again just after christmas, throat totally blocked due to cold etc bad cough bad chest infection missed another week of school over it. Only now just going, took two full doses of steroids and a dose of antibiotcs along with benylin and stuff though. Still don't feel 100% either, getting a chesty cough every so often and totally drained, weak. Still have a headache from it too. Definitely something going around this year. Doesn't make school fun!

Been fecked the last 5 days, fever was really bad for the first 2 but it's subsided. Diarrhea, dry cough, fever, chills, the works. Fun times!

    Haven't had a cold/flu in years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,705 ✭✭✭Mountainsandh

I had same as every one's describing, but in November.
I'm in the South East, so maybe the peaking of it is in different areas at different times.

This was obviously viral, but like others here, it clung on with really bad fatigue, aches, and all the usual viral infection symptoms for two long weeks.

Are our immune systems weaker and we don't shake them off as quick, or more likely imo, are the viruses getting more virulent ?

I'm immuno compromised now with medication I'm taking, so I got the flu shot yesterday, better late than never, although it won't shield me from this year's flu.

I share an office with a girl who always has a small heater pointed at her during the Winter, while I'd have a fan pointed towards me. This winter, we've had joint use of the heater. Since mid-Winter, I just can't keep my chest warm. If I put my hand on my chest, It feel like my whole body warms up immediately (but it's not feasible to keep my hand there all the time).

In mid-December, I went to the doctor (which I rarely do) about a different thing but the doctor noticed me coughing and discovered I had a chest infection so gave me antibiotics. I didn't even notice myself coughing. I'm still the same now...

Had flu for a week after Christmas and then felt **** for a week. Then got some sort of viral infection which resulted on me ending up having an ECG as the doctor thought I was in heart failure. Felt **** for another week and only started feeling normal yesterday. Really horrible dose it is!

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get antibiotics. My chest is ripped off me. Ouchies.

Had the sniffles the fortnight before Christmas and have had cough, cold, headaches and fatigues in spells, and back to sneezes this weekend.

Never had a dose like it

Still can’t shift the last bit of chest cough - 5 weeks on.

Now going to see an ENT specialist about the almost total loss of hearing in one ear that has resulted from the bug.

Someone pointed out that we’ve had a relatively mild winter - one storm after another bringing mild air with it. (I can’t remember so many storms in a row.) Perfect weather for bugs to survive and thrive.

    Four weeks I've had it

I've a blood vessel above my ear that feels likes it's going to burst when I cough

    I'm like Marge Simpson :)

Had the flu last week with aches and pains. Had one really bad day where I was in a cold sweat for most of the day and could barely move. Then it developed into a sore throat. Hoping it doesn't drag on too long!

It's back for a third time now since November. Please kill me now! :(

Oh, and I think I coughed up a wee bit of lung tissue today as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,073 ✭✭✭Rubberlegs

I feel like a crock of sh1t the last 3 days, thought I was just getting a cold on Tuesday but by 5pm I was in bed. Shaking with the cold but felt hot, arms, legs and back throbbing and everytime I dozed off I shot awake again for the whole night.
If someone had offered to shoot me I just might have accepted. Yesterday I was wrecked and thought my two eyeballs were going to fly out I sneezed so much, and if I had a euro for everytime I blew my nose I'd be loaded :(. Today the nose blowing seems to have stopped but I am coughing so much the middle of my back is in bits. I am barely eating, and even if I do I can't taste anything anyway. I miss my food :(

On the mend now. Hearing in left ear almost fully recovered - after almost 5 weeks.

Met someone in London who has had the same symptoms for about three weeks. Her hearing has gone in one ear now.

A nasty bug - worse in some ways than the flu I had a few years back because of the duration of it (far longer than the flu) and the loss of hearing.

My son caught it in early November, RSV is it official viral initials. Respiratory syntical virus. He spent 6 weeks in icu, 5 and a half ventilated and it was touch and go whether he'd survive. He did. His dad caught the same dose about a week after Christmas, he still has the cough and still feels sh!t. I got a slightly milder dose, don't know if it was the high dose vitamin d I'm on for allergies and I take high dose vitamin c from October to March but I got over it in about 2 weeks with no bad cough lingering.
My 6 year old also got it in November and he's still coughing too, it's a nasty dose. Crumlin icu was full in November and December with kids on ventilators. Most of them were vaccinated for it too.
