On Simi website it says 1st of Feb for the first month if 2018 data.

Usually there are 7 day/ 14 day figures distributed within the trade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,027 ✭✭✭Lantus

I drive 100km every day on a major road and I've seen 3 since Jan 🀔

Up to the 18th Jan there was 22,555 new car registrations. This is a drop of 1.6% on 2017.

Used car imports are at 5,347. Up 25.69%

New LCV registrations are at 3,700. Up 8.35%

Used LCV imports are 823. Up 22.29%

Lots of people importing the last few months. I look at these figures all the time for work and the 2nd half of last year imports were ahead of new registrations.

I registered a couple late yesterday, dublin regs were just shy of 10,000 so id say they will pass it this weekend.

If you want any make and model ill pull them up

Citroen has almost disappeared off the sales figures as a mass market manufacturer.

No Bik for company car drivers, company directors will be seriously looking at them. I know 1 who has one ordered and another who is considering one when his car is up for change later this year

When the top 3 manufacturers take 35% of the market then you’ll have that. Also Citroen’s lineup is very weak nowadays. Would someone buy a C4 over a Golf, C3 over a Fiesta etc. I’d reckon most of their sales are MPVs (and vans, which don’t show on this)

They have done more vans than cars, iv attached the lcv stats

Is that lower than normal for Volkswagen?
BMW 3rd out of the 3 expensive Germans and a long way behind Mercedes. Need that new 3 series out soon I'd say it will be a cracker if based on the 5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

What’s interesting is the Toyota LCV sales. Have you a breakdown of those? I’d imagine a good few are Proace (rebadged citroen/Peugeot) vans, but a load of them are Land Cruiser crewcabs.

A few years ago it was mercedes who were third out of the 3. I would have thought the likes of the CLA was bringing them up because of the lower entry price but the E class is miles out in front with nearly half of mercedes numbers so far!

Peugeot sales way up this year based on sales of the 3008 and 5008 I reckon.

There's the top 100 by make and model

If somebody told you 10 / 15 years back that Hyundai would be one of the top selling brands in the country you would have laughed at them.

Interesting to see the E Class out in front of the premium cars.

Nissan doing buy one get one free seems to have given them a lift?

    VW struggling

    Good to see

Add Skoda, SEAT and Audi to that though

Mercedes going very strung. Big change for Opel. Getting decimated in 12th position.

Why is the new grandland stilll not at opel dealers....the adds have been on for months.

New insignia....I'm baffled how little traction it has taken. Literally the insignia performed better in its run out years than the new one....I know this segment is shrinking but it's a popular car I expected to give opel a lift

    Group sales change everything alright

Renault, Mitsubishi, Dacia, Nissan and so on are probably number 1

Skoda will overtake VW at this rate, interesting

I bet Peugeot's growth is on the back of 3008 and 5008 sales.

I'd say they will they will be top 10 here in a few years

    Very strong brand awareness now

Its got a dark cloud over it for reliability and resale value ( early years and UK imports)

Everyone I know who has/had one wouldnt buy another

Toyota/Skoda are the kings in that repesect

The Mondeo is being given away though, if budget doesn’t stretch to Passat/Superb or then Mondeo is the one to get.

Here are 2016/7 figures. The Passat dominates that sector (add estate figures to saloon)
    9_C197880-_A0_C2-4938-8_DE8-_A4_FD7_A713_F33.jpg

That sector is dying either way, people are buying crossovers instead, so if they’re gonna buy a saloon, it’ll be from the big players.
Toyota won’t be replacing the Avensis.

All the negativity and uncertainty over GM selling them to PSA is I think hitting sales. This is with a new Insignia, fresh Astra and a few new crossover SUVs. Buyers hate uncertainty as hit can hit residuals and warranty concerns.

Opel are now looking for a good few new dealers across the country so they are planning a big push

Their range has very little to appeal to Irish buyers. The new C3 is supposed to be a good car but very hard get people out of their Polos, Fiestas or Yaris in that class.
The C4 is hopeless as it's so bland and unappealing. The C1 is a tiny seller as are all city cars.
You see a few Picassos about and the odd C4 Cactus. Again no SUV presence like their big brother Peugeot.

I thought Opel had a fairly comprehensive dealer network? Most counties I can think of have at least one dealer.

I would have thought so too bit they are looking for more nonetheless

Edit. 33 according to their website

I think myself it's not so much the dealer numbers that's the problem, it's been the cars themselves- their once good name that they destroyed and lack of competitive popular models.
Didn't the Corsa come out new circa 2006? Despite some clever face-lifting it is the same model. Buyers aren't stupid and this is reflected in the sales figures. That used be a very popular model here, regular top ten.

I agree, i havent seen anything in the opel line up for years that id look at twice. There was a time everyone in the country had a corsa for their first car!

Those models are spot on for where the market is. Very stylish looking and competitive crossovers, not surprised they have started well. Peugeot is one make that has come back with gusto and into the top 10.

i just bought a new one on tueday- so far so good but a big change from a Golf R !

Why are Rneualt taking a hit this Jan? Are they running less offers or something? Down nearly 1/3.
Kadjar, Captur and Megane all still fresh.

I did see a Grandland at my local dealer but there was no brochures and it was outside not in the showroom.
That same dealer do still had an old Insignia in the showroom and no new ones anywhere or brochures for them either.

Now that I would love to see. VW have been trying to stop them being as successful as they were by restricting there designs a bit and making them more bland.

I think that is terrible as the new car is a whole new car. Totally different to the old one.

You can say the same for the VW golf it has been around since 2008 but yet people keep buying it even do it is about as exciting as bread.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The Mk7 Golf is out since 2013 and is a completely different platform to the Mk6 (which was heavily based on the mk5) It was class leading when it was launched, and is still the car to beat in that sector, they’ve updated engines and facelifted it in the meantime. It has the widest range of engines and trim levels in that class, so you can have anything from a 1.0 base model to a Golf R. All engines in the range are turbocharged, and once you get up to Highline level, there’s no creditable competition for it.

The C4 was discontinued by Citroen at the end of last year. The facelifted Cactus takes over from it.
