Sociopaths

We are reminded again - with the almost unbelievable obnoxiousness seen on the Dolores O’Riordan RIP thread (some now deleted) of the sociopaths amongst us.

They come across like alien spock imposters from another planet. Unable to achieve even the bare minimum threshold of human empathy and seemingly unaware of it in some cases – yet in other cases they enjoy it and revel in it.

They are a prominent (albeit minor) force in pro-life misogyny & corrosive in dog eat dog capitalism but they really come into their own in war time: atrocity after atrocity, inhumanity after inhumanity.

I accept they can do nothing about their natural brain wiring.

So, are they an appalling plague of c**ts or a ‘personality-type’ that adds much vibrancy, variety and colour to life?

That give me a hearty chuckle. Anyway Jon Ronson has an entertaining book on the subject, The Psychopath test.

OP, If you ever see this obnoxiousness form a socialist or someone pro-choice can you come on here and describe what happens in your brain.

That book looks like a hoot alright & insightful going by the amazon reviews.

That’s an interesting point, but how would one identify a sociopath who held a pro-choice viewpoint (i.e. a viewpoint which is by definition empathetic [as opposed to ideological]). There may be instances around the place but I can’t envisage how his/her sociopathy would be observed or evident?

I can see the posts that were deleted in the Dolores thread and the short amount of time they were there they actually picked up a good few thanks. If they weren't deleted I'd say they'd be very popular.
I don't mind people who make a joke about something similar to be honest to be honest I much prefer it to this fake empathy that people put on to get likes/shares when in actually fact they don't mean it.

Yeah well on behalf of my fellows sociopaths we don't much care for you either.

I prefer honest bile over the insincere jumping on the bandwagon rip crap that litters such posts.

Ill be honest and say i was never a fan. Have never known anything about her. Listen a lot to 4fm and they play that song 'linger' a lot. Would always hate hearing it.
Yes its sad shes deaf. Tough for her family.
But everyone including sociopaths (in your opinion op) are entitled to their opinion too.

By realising that sociopaths can have empathy, while psychopaths lack empathy.

When I was in 6th year a girl died in an accident and it was sad. I was in the CBS and she was in the convent. What surprised was some people who never spoke to came across as being a great friend. They weren't there to support people she knew but it was basically people jumping on the bandwagon!

Someone not caring about an individual being dead or hurting the feelings of people who do care about him/her being dead, aren't necessarily sociopaths. They're just not bothered because they're not upset by it.

At least they're not one of those whimpering facebook ***** pretending to give a **** for the 'likes'. Pathetic.

Yeah well on behalf of my fellows sociopaths we don't much care for you either.

[taking this on face value!] I know you don’t (d’oh) and I wouldn’t expect a sociopath to care about anyone even their own ‘loved ones’ except by copying what they see people in other families doing.

That’s why they / you are ‘interesting’.

Can you give any insights to what its like, from your perspective, being a sociopath in a society where 98-99% of people are not in this category?
Indeed, like why does every post have to be "RIP great musak great loss etc"? Dissent is not allowed it would seem.
You see this is what this thread is about. Someone may be of the opinion that the Cranberries were utter rubbish & without any artistic merit whatsoever.

    That is a valid opinion.

But to post that on an RIP thread (i.e. a thread which is at a minimum about respect for the dead) esp. an artist who died 40 years before her time and on the day of her death ….. is just lacking in basic empathy. Hence….

I'd respond to this but I really don't care about you or anyone, even my own loved ones.

As for not being only allowed one opinion,well...Boards.

Have met my share, paticularly family members they make everything about them deaths, parties arguments it's best to avoid any contact with them if you can as they will drag you down to their level and eat you alive.

You see this is what this thread is about.

This thread is about judging others because they don't follow your own sense of morality.

    Get off your pedestal.

Now, if you were arguing about manners and being polite, I might have more patience, but instead, there's this labeling people as sociopaths.

That's not all that new. It was a popular theory that Bill Clinton was a psychopath.

agreed, very common for people of power to have these personality disorders, it would make you wonder, which disorder is worse in such a position? i still find deirdre mccloskey's take on it funny, its probably better to have a lazy fool(trump) in power than an energetic one(putin).

Sociopathy is 1 to 2% of the population (in all countries). No one is denying that sociopathy exists (Yes, surely?).

Yes, of course I am judging others, because if it’s announced suddenly that a relatively young famous Irish person dies the normal instinct isn’t instantly: wait, I must make a ‘hilarious’ joke about that persons line of work for the lolz on AH…

It is easy to just fire off a post about any subject, I suppose. And if someone is drunk/high/immature it’s just as easy. Of course that could be the real issue with comments on RIP threads.

Anyway, this observation is long overdue, in my opinion.

The worst inhumanity to man in past centuries/wars could (& probably should be ascribed to these people). This fact is not trivial or something to be ignored because it’s awkward to talk about.

If a unpopular public figure like Bono, Varadkar or Trump died, people would probably get chastised like naughty children in AH for not joking.

Empathy and compassion don’t always go hand in hand and it turns out that people with the most empathy for victims often have the least compassion when dealing with the perpetrators, usually with intense ferocity.

I don’t see where you are getting the Asian slur accusation. I’ll leave that with yourself

Are you shocked that some, let’s say 5% (for arguments sake) of prominent pro-lifers here – even theoretically could be sociopaths.

I’d say, it should at least merit some pause for thought.

While people coming on to R.I.P threads to post in a disrespectful manner is poor behaviour it is equalled by the grief porn lots of people engage in when an entertainer dies.

Last year was a complete ****show for this as celebrities died who are essentially strangers other than the carefully managed personas they put forward. The cult of the celebrity is a crazy thing but they are not real people. They are a character put forward for public consumption.
