Gas Cylinder Refill

    Hi,

I hope someone can help me. I recently bought German made boat and it has a different to Irish standard gas regulator and cylinder.

Is there any place in Dublin or Athlone where I can get the cylinder refilled or would I have to change the whole system?

    Thank you in advance!

Your local calor gas or flow gas dealer should be able to fill it for you, if you want to just want to change the regulator you might get away with it if your boat is only a few years old the older boats fridges and cookers worked on 50 mb but a few years ago they changed to 30 mb and in Ireland we use 28 mb so they should work at that but best thing to is get a proper gas fitter to do the work to be on the safe side.

Thank you for your response. Yes its a 50mb system and the space in the locker is very limited so ideally I would like to keep the original cylinder as both the calor and the flogas have different size of the bottles. I rang one places in Dublin and they advised me that there shouldn't be a problem to fill it up, they even knew how those German bottles look like so I guess I am not the only person with similar problem. Apparently those were also popular in German Campers and there are good few here...

I have exactly the same problem. Many of the previous gas refill places have started to decline to fill them. I guess they do want you to change over to their brand of bottle. Can you share the name of the obliging dealer you identified?.
    many thanks.

    Hi Wazabru,

I didn't fill my bottle yet so I am not sure if that can be done but I was told that this more likely will be possible. Please see this thread for contact:

The Harbour stores in Bray should be able to do it

The harbour stores in Bray declined to refill my European gas bottle, having done so for the last 5 years.

They said that they would only refill flogas bottles going forward.

There is a gas supplier in Grant’s Park, Greenogue Industrial Estate. Bring your bottle there and he will fill it there and then. He will fill nearly any style of bottle and the last time I was there he had a few of the German ones actually in stock. I imported a camper from Germany last year so know the bottle. Note the German ones are normally propane and not butane which we typically use in boats and campers.

It’s a great place to know as he will refill or top up your bottle so you don’t have to wait for it to empty on a long trip you can go in beforehand and just get it topped up.

I don’t know the name but take the exit at Rathcoole, Tage a right at the roundabout at College Road, left at Grant’s Drive and left again at Grant’s Park. He’s hidden in on the right about 30 m up.

    Would that be the place?

No this is a yard with a container as an office - stacks of bottles and a filling station. As far as I could see they just fill bottles and nothing else. You might find them in the 'Golden Pages' but they are not on the web. I had a number written down that was on the board outside but no idea where that is now!

I dropped down to Tommy recently at
    296 Cappagh Road,

    087 2566730

He filled up my 5kg, Dutch propane gas bottle on the spot.

Problem solved and a great resource for us folks with such European systems.
These small bottles usually sit in a gas locker with a snug fit.

The calor and flogas propane bottles are too big for these types of gas lockers and would require reworking the system.

I have one empty German cylinder for sale if any one is interested. Handy to keep one as a spare when other one runs out of gas. Mint Condition.
