Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

CBT for Insomnia

    Hi all,

Been struggling with insomnia on and off for about seven years. I have tried all over the counter stuff- Valerian, sleep sprays and just about everything else. It is really impacting on my standard of life, as well as my performance at work. I had been prescribed sleeping tablets which worked well but I ran out of these. I had since been to the doctor who wouldn't prescribe them again as it may become addictive. I have been to doctors but I feel that all of them have been relatively useless. I was wondering if it was worth seeking CBT for insomnia? I read that Deirdre McSwiney has a 75% success rate. I did read some of her tips online and they seemed to be relatively "airy fairy"- avoiding TV etc. I am just reluctant as I know that it will be very expensive but I am at the stage where I'll try anything! Would appreciate if anyone can share experiences with CBT for insomnia

CA Espie, et al., Randomized clinical effectiveness trial of nurse-administered small-group cognitive behavior therapy for persistent insomnia in general practice, Sleep, Volume 30, Issue 5, 1 May 2007, Pages 574–584. Conclusion: "This study suggests that trained and supervised nurses can effectively deliver CBT for insomnia in routine general medical practice."

CBT-i was an effective treatment for adults with chronic insomnia, with clinically meaningful effect sizes, was suggested by JM Trauer, et al., Cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic insomnia: a systematic review and meta-analysis, Annals of Internal Medicine, 4 August 2015.

I had insomnia for about a year. I found Paul Mc Kennas app I can make you sleep to work for me. Sleeping tablets made me too groggy in the morning. My friend was prescribed Melatonin instead of sleeping tablets and it worked for her. But the app worked for me, after a month I no longer needed it
