Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The spec for the Tiviar mentions this:

"Record 3 satellite programs while watching 1 or 2 (PIP) other programs...."

If it only has 2 satellite tuners how would that be possible? Or is it confined to 2 transponders at a time?
Does it mean it could support up to 4 independent satellite channels via LAN (or 3 via LAN + HDMI)?

Great info from The high horse brigade there, thanks.

I bought this box myself and finally got around to setting most of it up last night (still some things to do).

I'm very impressed, seems nice, fast and smooth. I'm hoping it will be more stable then my old Amiko Alien 2+. Internal HDD is nice, I was able to take a 500GB HDD out of a USB case that I was using with the AA2 and put it in this box and it just worked right off, with all the AA2 recordings still there, nice :)

I'm sure that's a mistake. It has 3 tuners you can record on all 3 at the same time and watch 2 of them pip

What happens if you try to set 4 (or more) concurrent satellite timers in the EPG? Does it give an error at any stage to say too many?

You don't get warnings when setting timers, you get a pop up when a recording starts if there's conflicts. It would probably work if one of those recording was on the same transponder, whether the hard drive is up to it is another issue

I'm surprised by that. Normally openATV warns immediately if you try to set a conflicting timer. Likewise, autotimer will warn if it encounters an upcoming conflict. It is smart enough to know if the two conflicts are on the same TP

Just tried this. I added the two satellite recordings from the EPG and added a third while the others were recording. It let me add the third timer but popped up an immediate error warning saying there was no tuner available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

Maybe it's implemented differently on the Tiviar although I don't see why. Last night I recorded BBC1 HD and BBC4 HD (same TP) and CH4 HD at the same time on my F1. However if I had tried to add a timer for say Quest, it would immediately come up with a screen showing existing planned timers and the conflicting one I was trying to add. I could then rejig them to suit

I want this box as its a pain with not Irish stuff on the zgemma

  • Registered Users Posts: 31 Maunderevents

Was about too buy a Dreambox or vu solo 4K

It will if you put it there. This box comes with a clean install of Vix or Openatv Enigma 2, whichever you choose. It's up to you to set it up the way you like with plugins and skins.

So is it hard to put it on or do I just go to plugins and download it
Also with skin change are they easy to put on box
    Don't know much on this

Lots of plugins and skins are available to download in the software on the box, for others you can upload the ipk file and install, it's not hard. The Enigma 2 software on the box has a bit of a learning curve but you already have it on your existing box

The skins from download plugins section
I heard there dodgy and some mess up box is that true
Cause it to go into endless loop etx

Not true, the ones from the plugin download are official repository and can be trusted to work on the box without issues

You can buy the HDD from them (I assume they install it for you). I installed my own that I already had, it was pretty straight forward.

I've updated my backup once again, I've now changed from AutoBouquets to AutoBouquetMaker which is set to add Freesat bouquets and gives a much better selection and is set to update daily. I've also updated the picons

I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these.

@ High Horse Brigade. Fair play for all the work you've put in. I see you use openvix. Do you reckon that's the one to go for? Is there much difference between it and the other systems? I've had a SAB Sat/Android hybrid box for a while and was never happy with it. I sent it back twice because it keeps going back to factory settings. It's happened again today and I've had enough of it.
Another question. Can KODI be installed on it? Not the end of the world if not but it would be handy.
    Ta
    Joe.

I use Openatv, there's little difference between that and Openvix. Both are getting good support through constant updates

Sound. I'll be ordering it on Thursday. I'll do a bit of homework in the meantime and educate myself about bouquets and picons etc.
    Thanks for the quick reply.

AFAIK openATV and openVIX come from the same base and thus share many similarities. In my experience, openATV has more features and seems a little more polished.
Bouquets is just a fancy name for favourites lists. You can group lists of channels in any order you wish so that you could have a NEWS bouquet or KIDS bouquet or whatever.
Picons are just fancy pictures (icons) with the channel names on them.

Welcome to the addictive world of enigma :D

I have open atv with sky q skin iptv app etc on usb
If flash Tiviar with it will it work .
I can't see why not or does Tiviar need a specific open atv for it ,
I see open atv works for most boxs, so since its in my zgemma will same usb work for Tiviar

There is a specific OpenATV image for each model box.

You cannot flash an image for another model box on another as it will brick the box as they have specific bootloaders.

The OpenATV image for the Tiviar Alpha Plus is here

Ok so when I do that how do I go about getting YouTube and iptv for movies there not in plugin sections on box

    @highhorsebrigade

How do you get your tv to do those screenshots?
Is it possible to record a video segment.
    I have an LG tv.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,380 ✭✭✭STB.

@ Tigerandahalf He is using WEBIF which is on all E2 boxes.

You log into it using the box over the LAN using a web browser and it gives you options to take screenshots
Ok so when I do that how do I go about getting YouTube and iptv for movies there not in plugin sections on box

Youtube is in the feeds under extensions.

IPTV is a third party IPK. These boxes are not android so dont think you are going to have a Kodi feel to them

I actually ssh into the box and run a command to save it to /tmp. Explained here:

Ah ok. I just thought these modern smart tvs would allow you to screenshot and video grab and access it then on their app.

Here is a link to my complete backup https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Dy5msHel6CS9zXCAU_U21ZX_9mvfxZ8A
    Guide http://www.openvix.co.uk/openvix-builds/Guides%20and%20Tutorials/Flashing%20Guides/Tiviar%20USB%20Flashing%20Guides/How%20to%20flash%20a%20Tiviar%20Alpha+.pdf
And here is a link to the picons pack, you need to use Filezilla to put the picon folder on your hard drive /media/hdd/picon https://drive.google.com/open?id=1epgDfivdpeh3JjGjbWdT0JRkAIkKtN9i

When done you'll need to edit your own weather location id in the mymetrix lite plugin, you can find your own location id here http://weather.mynonpublic.com/locationid.html
You'll also need to scan the terrestrial tuner if you're not receiving signal from Cairns Hill

note: I forgot that I've a password on my box, to change it use putty to ssh into the box and use the command "passwd root" it will prompt you for a new pass. I'll pm you the pass while I'm doing a new backup
post updated username: root, password: tempass

Also note: My OpenWebif is set to port 8585, you should change this back to port 80 in the openwebif plugin, I changed it to suit a firewall rule I already had

Do I need to put your picons only on my box when it get as its coming with open atv ,or do I flash my box and put your complete backup on it

Will your picons work it I say put a sky like skin on the box

You can use the picons with any image, they work with most skins, in fact most skins are built around highlighting them

The box will come with nothing setup, a raw OpenAtv or OpenVix install. My image has lots of stuff configured with very little left to setup besides scan for terrestrial channels and add the picons to the hard drive.

Oh BTW, they're not my picons, there are loads of different picon packs available on lots of other forums. These are known as MK picons, all credit goes to MK for the fantastic job he makes of them.

Yes, I'm using it. It is nice, I just wish it used the full width of the screen on the EPG page, that largely unused 1/4 to the left with the Oynx graphic is annoying.

If he used the EPG page from his Virgin skin it would be perfect.

    Hello all.
I got the Tiviar Alpha Plus today and it came with OpenAtv 6.1 pre-installed.
I have read this thread and i downloaded thhb image and installed it.
I waited a while after it installed but i could not get a picture. I turned off the tv and then turned it back on again and still no picture or sound. The tv is working on and i get sound/picture from the aerial.
I put in a scart from the Tiviar to the tv and i got sound but the picture was all green and not clear.
I did have a picture from the hdmi from the Tiviar to the tv and i was looking around the settings/info and other bits on the box before i flashed the image so the Tiviar was working so the settings on my hdmi maybe outputting wrong.
Can anybody tell me how i can get this issue sorted out or will need to be reflashed to OpenAtv 6.1 again.

Thanks for any help or ideas you may have.

Are you using a 720p TV, it could be that mine is set to 1080p. Try another TV that supports 1080p

If this is the case the setting you need to change is in settings -> setup -> video -> basic settings. Change the mode from 1080p to 720p and press green to save

@ vincent Try flashing the image from USB again. ie delete the version on the stick and copy it across again from your PC/laptop and stick it in the box and reboot it.

I followed The high horse brigade's advice and i worked.
I had to use the box's display as a guide as it could not see it on the tv.
I will now read up some more on this site about this box as there is more to learn.

    Thanks for all the advice.

    Hello All

I have ordered one of these boxes with open Vix on it. I am new to these linux boxes so it will probably be a big learning curve for me.
Can some tell me do they come with built-in WiFi or do I need to buy a WiFi dongal ?
