They couldn't be seen to give us all 15. Would have led to another civil war

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,948 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

Gillane didn't deserve 1, if the officials were doing there job ye would have been 10 points and a man down early in the 2nd half v Tipp due to his stupidity, not an isolated with him when it comes to loose use of the hurl, he's bad for the sledging too. Jack O'Connor was the unluckiest forward.

You should read Teddy Mc Cathy's article in the Examiner today

Seen it , everyone is entitled to their opinion

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,370 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

If a bit of "sledging" (to use that stupid American term) or using the hurl a bit loose gets you exempt from an All Star then every Brian Cody trained hurler and every hurler on the last Cork All Ireland teams would want to hand theirs in. Sheedys Tipp players while we are at it

Well he had an unbelievable league and championship. Clare were so reliant on him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭High bike

Agreed a brilliant hurler and I love watching him but all-stars aren't given on league form and at the end of the day Gillane has a munster and all ireland medal in his pocket this year Kelly hasn't

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,545 ✭✭✭billyhead

All stars aren't given for just winning medals either. He was brilliant in the championship games for Clare aswell.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭High bike

They're given on form and success over the year and Gillane has both in spades

  • Registered Users Posts: 438 ✭✭letsseehere14

Gillane did not deserve an All Star this year. He was dropped for the Munster final and in all honesty had the referee done his job that day we wouldnt have seen him start again for us this year as he would have royally let the entire team down. We also probably wouldnt have won that game. He was brought on having been dropped, called upon to turn things around for us and 5minues later should have seen red.

He is incredibly skilled and he had a hand in the goal and about 5 points directly after half time and was instrumental to us winning the final, but he still let us down that day even if he avoided punishment. It put Kiely in an unenvious position as after, Gillane had shown Kiely that he both could not be relied upon and also could not be dropped. Kiely ended up between a rock and a hard place. He is a talent that now just has to be man managed.

Tony Kelly clearly a better choice than him this year.

Unusual that Cork got no All Star but it was a rather unimpressive run for them in a way also. It was like 2013 in a way, looked great but in reality lacked.

In a way this whole championship was like 2013 except for the fact 1 team did show up, where as in 13 both Kilkenny and Tipp dipped.

12 All Stars is an incredible haul and fully deserved this year.

Already cannot wait until the new season kicks off. I expect a major kick back from Galway and Tipperary but both are unknowns with such changes internally. Clare, Cork and Kilkenny do not look like making the step yet and Waterford, I honestly just dont know. I though they had a poor season in many ways compared to 2020 with really dire league and early championship match performances topped off by a semi final showing where they threw everything at us physically in the first quarter but forgot that to win a hurling match you have to score. Even in our league game against them this year we were in control until the Flanagan red.

But I expect at least 1 to make a dart from the pack.

Comfortable win today against a very overmatched Kerry side in the Munster Cup. Encouraging to see very good displays from Colin Coughlan and Cathal O'Neill, O'Neill looks to have strengthened up and his use of the ball, scoretaking and workrate were impressive.

Brian O'Grady got on a lot of ball in midfield and Pat Ryan and David Reidy impressed up front. Richie English was superior in defence.

Good to see Adam English make his debut as a sub also. He scored a super goal and is some prospect. Paddy O'Loughlin back in the fold after an early injury to Mark Quinlan.

Scorers for Limerick: David Reidy 1-14 (0-4 from play), Pat Ryan 2-3, Cathal O'Neill 0-4, Adam English 1-1, Brian O'Grady 0-3, Colin Coughlan 0-2, Conor Boylan 0-1, Oisin O'Reilly 0-1.

Final score Limerick 4-29 Kerry 0-11

How did that Kerry team beat Tipp

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,646 ✭✭✭washman3

Kerry are playing without their Kilmoyley contingent. Don't know how strong their team was today. Heard Shane Conway and Paudie Ahern mentioned in Martin Kiely's roundup. Possible they tried a bunch of players today who didn't start V Tipp. On the other hand it's dog eat dog with Limerick. Players are chomping at the bit to make the squad, never mind the starting 15. No surprise to see Reidy, O'Neill, Pat Ryan and Adam English chalking up good scores. They are capable of doing this against the top sides too.

Limerick Hurling GAA season ticket has sold out I see. How times have changed!

It's pretty good value though, especially when compared to the football equivalent.

That’s a very very young Kerry team.

Missing a lot of good hurlers with Kilmoyley and injury.

Limerick was a big step up for them!

Munster Hurling League final tickets on sale Wednesday morning at 9 AM

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,370 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone till tomorrow night 😆

Delighted the game is on on Ennis. The smaller stadium should be good for the atmosphere and it gives me an excuse to hop on a train and have a few pints in Ennis

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,370 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Sold out already. Should have set the alarm

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,545 ✭✭✭billyhead

Are TG4 showing it? There showing the O'Byrne cup final on Saturday so you never know.

  • Registered Users Posts: 893 ✭✭✭munsterdevil

No, the All Ireland Club semi finals are on Sunday so they're showing those.

Should be available on a paid stream though.

Footballers got the league off to a winning start against Longford. Led by 9 at half time due to 3 early goals but almost threw it away with a poor second half. Luckily Longford were more wasteful than Limerick and scuffed a fair few goal chances. With Longford pushing on Limerick got 1-2 in injury time to put the score back to the earlier healthy gap.

Seems like the footballers start well and fall off the pace. They are probably playing at their correct level in Div 4. Still they have some good players.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,370 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Given that they were promoted and also stayed up I think that's a pretty harsh statement.

Good enough for d3 by the looks of things

  • Registered Users Posts: 458 ✭✭C4000

A disappointing start to the league campaign yesterday. Neither side really coped with the conditions and there was plenty of wayward shooting and misdirected passes on display. It was nearly as difficult to play with the swirling wind as against it. It was a bit of a dogfight with plenty of tackling and hard work.

There were some good displays in defence for Limerick, particularly Barry Nash and Dan Morrissey. O Donoghue was effective in midfield but the obvious problem was the complete lack of scoring threat. Hegarty was the only forward that showed up well, his physical strength is unreal. The others struggled to have any impact on the game, although Tom Morrissey got through a lot of work. The balls that they did win were generally out by the sideline and they weren't able to make anything of them. Pat Ryan had 4 or 5 possessions in those sort of positions but no scores came from them. Wexford at least had Conor Mcdonald who was able to catch a few balls in a central position.

Cathal O'Neill struggled in the game. He was bottled up in possession a few times and seemed to lose confidence in the second half and mis hit a few passes. He is a great prospect, but winning a place in this team requires an exceptional standard of performance and at some point he will have to put in a genuinely impressive display if he is to contend for a place in the championship team.

David Reidy doesn't offer much apart from placed balls. We need to get back on the horse the next day and beat Galway.
