No, wouldn't be extra confident at this stage. But Cork are still soloey and tippy tappy. Not great. But we're not playing well enough to guarantee anything.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭shockframe

We're fortunate to be still in the mix.

More than justified no doubt but a reliance on the same core of players since 2018 has caught up with us.

Corks pace would concern me heading into Sunday. It seems we are there for the taking.

That said well done to the lads for hanging in there. Running out of steam a little but still battling.

Looking at the games so far the opposition seem to be scoring as much as always but we are not touching 30 points like last year.

Midfield were very good today as were Morrissey and Coughlan. I thought Gillane and Flanagan were good with the little they got.

But we had 3 hurlers of the year all on weird or terrible form.

I'd nearly be happy if they knocked out Cork at this stage. But there hasn't been much in the other province that looks scary either so potentially plenty to play for yet if they could get through in 3rd.

I think realistically we are going for third place. I can't see Waterford beating Tipp. We will have our work cut out to beat Cork. Kiely seemed upbeat. The stats say we created plenty of chances but didn't convert enough of them. Probably didn't work hard enough to stop Tipp scoring either or at least make their scores harder. We're improving little by little. Not sure will it be enough.

What was the handbags at the end?

It looked like Dan McCormack had an issue with Byrnes

The Sunday game has turned into a shame, with robots on the panel not allowed give their opinions any more what a joke. Not one word on the controversial incidents in the match to protect the ref from criticism

Final round next weekend and only Waterford are out of the running. Am I correct in saying

Cork beat or draw with Limerick - Limerick finish 4th

Limerick beat Cork and Tipperary beat Waterford - Limerick Finish 3rd

Limerick beat Cork and Waterford beat Tipperary - Limerick finish 2nd

  • Registered Users Posts: 998 ✭✭✭einn32

Yeah that's the way I see it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,787 ✭✭✭Red Silurian

    One more permutation

    Tipperary-Waterford ends in a draw

Limerick need to beat Cork by 5 points or more to go second

Disappointed after that and yet we were probably only deserving of a draw in the end

Byrnes looked like he was dazed/concussed for 15 minutes after that heavy knock he took, wasnt his usual self after that but did recover somewhat (5 wides from him)

we hit 28 wides to Tipps 18.

Hegarty looks a crestfallen figure out there , confidence is shot , he should have popped that goal attempt over the bar might have given him a bit of a boost psychologically.

Lynch not at the races either .

Tom Morrisey ,Hayes , O Neill , Flanagan stood out.

Get over Cork , were hurling on and get a few fellas back on form, let Clare and Tipp ate each other in Munster final.

There might be a curveball in the championship yet, Waterford players have no love for Cahill, they just might get the motivation right and payback is a bitch as they say .

Agree with these sentiments. Byrnes' confidence in the first half was either on the floor and he was rattled or else he was more likely concussed. Gaa didn't cover themselves in glory at all yesterday - Cathal Barrett situation needs to be looked at: ref should have blown when the ball was in his area and he had no helmet on.

Tipp tactic in first half nearly seemed to be to let us play ourselves into trouble and it seemed to work. Felt we got a few decisions go for us (the throw call especially). The performance levels are leaving ourselves vulnerable to things going wrong or lady luck having an influence on the outcome of the game. Lynch performance levels are worrying it's a real stick or twist decision with hegarty on Sunday. I feel you nearly have to start him as he won't give much off the bench. WO'D got through a mountain of work yesterday - teak tough workhorse. Morriseys score to go ahead was class - the right man had the ball. Tipp decided to shackle lynch and hegarty and so O'Neill got to stake his claim with a superb performance for a young lad. Thought it was a bit puzzling he was taken off but maybe his work effort was dropping in the stats.

I actually thought the forwards did well with what they got - tipp gave away very few frees yesterday.

Mulcahy despite one awful mistake rally settled the ship - took responsibility for a big score that if it missed would have taken the wind out.

Also, we need to find a line ball taker - think it was three times we hit duffs or awful attempts at going long and cost us two or three scores (the last free especially).

Should have lost, could have won, probably just about deserved the draw. The win would have made a draw suffice in the final game - thats usually worth about 10% in bookies odds so it's not insignificant especially given the ref's desires to make draws of games.

Lads owe us nothing and have a lot of miles on the clock but in a one off game at home to cork - if we don't come out of it with a win we deserve to go out and that's it. Roll on sunday

Going to be a 40,000 full house in Gaelic Grounds next Sunday , very high demand for tickets in both Cork & Limerick this morning , Limerick have to win in a proper knockout match .

Be a great day in the city especially if Limerick can win!

Would like to see Lynch back out at midfield. Think he's stifled in at centre forward. Out midfield just let him have a free roam.

Hayes at centre forward then and let him run at goal more. Real pity Finn is injured as Dan Morrissey could move out wing back and Casey go in at full back

  • Registered Users Posts: 499 ✭✭C4000

Good comments above. In terms of the team for next week, I'd bring Richie English in for Casey. Casey looked uncomfortable when dragged into wide positions on a few occasions. Richie was bouncing off the ground in the league final, won every ball that came near him and set up 1-1 with great balls out. Finn is a huge loss.

I'd bite the bullet with both Lynch and Hegarty, Lynch is labouring for form and things aren't coming off for him. Hegarty is definitely suffering a crisis of confidence. Play a half forward line of O'Neill, Hayes and Morrissey, with Coughlan in at wing back.

Hannon, Hayes and O'Donoghue tore into the second half yesterday and we need to see more of that next week.

I would have been critical of turning to Mulcahy at this stage, but he was excellent and almost stole the game for us.

100% agree with those changes. We certainly need to tweak things a bit and lads like Coughlan are well able for it

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,414 ✭✭✭High bike

I'm glad someone else commented on the line ball situation it was an accident waiting to happen and it cost us with the last free on Sunday.I can remember Darragh ODonovan putting li r balls over the bar 4 yrs ago and now he doesn't take any.Every team know what's coming from a Limerick line ball at this stage it's tippy tippy and jeep possession only more often than not they don't keep possession. That last line ball on Sunday should have been sent 60yds down th field and let Tipp win it there if needs be it's just total bs at this stage

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,266 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

He was great at CF back when teams let us short pass it up to him and he could create.

We are being forced to go long and he is just getting cleaned out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭shockframe

Its hard for Hegarty to be still hitting the heights of previous years.

He had 2 tough seasons with the Football squad before he joined the Hurling so thats nearly a decade at inter county now. The rumours were nonsense but fatigue must surely be kicking in.

Lynch isn't far off that either. He emerged straight out of minor and coupled with the injury and the ferocity of defences he's not the same player.

Theres about another 7 to 8 players that will head into greater mileage by next season.

One way or another the team we've known since 2018 is heading for change. If next weekend goes wrong we could be looking at the end of Kinnerk and Kiely.

Watched yesterdays match again earlier- that free at the end Tipp got to draw the game was very soft if a free at all

Limerick wouldnt have been awarded it

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,266 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

You can't touch a player in that situation. He (or any player) was only waiting for a touch to go down.

The usual treatment of Flanagan and Gillane did go unnoticed as usual.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,414 ✭✭✭High bike

It didn't go unnoticed at all it was ignored as usual.Ml.Duignan actually commented on it once about Flanagan being dragged back by Barrett ,Duignan actually said the ref had seen it but ignored it.Fair play to Johnny Murphy he pulled the Clare full back twice in the 1st 15 mis in Ennis .He warned him 1st time and gave a yellow card 2nd time if only more refs had a bit of bottle

  • Registered Users Posts: 290 ✭✭rubbledoubledo

Terrible way to go out on Sunday, beaten by Cork of all teams in your home ground, hope they regroup

Dead right here....the referee rule book must read - Defenders cannot hold the forwards making runs UNLESS its a Limerick forward where you ignore !!
