Fancy the Chiefs and Rams but the other two games are very difficult to call.

I've a little gripe about the op. You have the spread figures in there and this isn't a gambling thread. I'm just getting a bit fed up of gambling being brought into main threads. IMO it has its place, we have a thread for it. I just like to be able to read threads and discuss things without the gambling element.

I'm not anti-gambling by any stretch, will be having a few bets on the games myself.

Regarding the points spreads, I actually only put them in as I find it’s a handy way for people to see how close a game is expected to be, or who the favourites are in tighter games.

For example, there’ll be some new fans popping in and out during the playoffs who won’t have as much knowledge and it can be a quick and easy way for them to see without feeling like they’re asking a question they may feel they’d be expected to know in terms of who should win etc.

Ironically, based on previous threads where the information has been included, I doubt there would have even been one post discussing gambling or the point spreads until it was brought up in complaint :pac:

    Chiefs
    Rams
    Jags
    Saints

4 home wins, boring & safe prediction I know

NFC miles stronger this year. Very little between the teams from 1-6. AFC lacking in depth big time, although at the top, the Patriots are still the clear best team in football at this point.

On point spreads, they're a great source of info for anyone imo, even if it's just learning the relative importance of homefield advantage.

Here's what each playoff teams homefield advantage is considered to be worth if anyone's interested (these are dabated but generally...)

    Saints - 3.75
    Patriots - 3.75
    Chiefs - 3.5
    Vikings - 3.5

    Titans - 2.5
    Rams - 2
    Jags - 2

Jags and Rams can probably be bumped a bit, they're low partly due to rarely being full but they obviously will during the playoffs

Everyone else is 3. Majority of the NFL is 3, strange year this year with a lot of devaition amongst playoff teams. Seattle the highest rated homefield at 4 generally and Chargers the lowest in their temporary soccer ground, basically considered to have zero advantage.

You see that is the thinking of a gamblers mind. As I said I like a bet myself and if i want to have one I'll go looking for what I want but it doesn't need to be in the main thread and IMO it doesn't help anybody.

I prefer to read stuff and make up my own mind about what I think will happen without having spread numbers thrown in my face.

We have a gambling thread for talking about spreads and betting and its a quality thread but can we not have a thread where we just discuss the games without any gambling talk?

It seems to be more and more inserted into sport as if its a part of any sports discussion these days and IMO it doesn't belong there.

Discussing the impact of homefield is fine, while it will impact where the money goes I don't see anyone linking off to the PP site.

I agree everything's should be done to suit your way of thinking and if not we should make a big deal about nothing

    Some tasty games this weekend.

I reckon the Falcons can win against the Rams.

Also I think the Bills might ride the wave of momentum through Jacksonville.

    Titans

    Bills
    Saints

The Pats, Steelers and Saints are the only teams I remember winning the Superbowl out of whose left. I know the Rams won it in 99 but none of the rest ever won it and the Chiefs won it back in the 60s.

Really? Am I always complaining about the way threads are set up?

The NFC wildcard games could be Championship games.....the AFC games are a bit meh. Going for 4 home wins.

Ah the playoffs! The business end of the NFL season. This is the business.

Pick the four home teams this weekend.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

If anyone's looking for a silly bet to slap €1-2 on, Paddy Power is offering 55/1 on both team to score 2 TDs in each half for the Chiefs/Titans game. Not all too likely so just one for the loose change really, but should make the game a bit more exciting for the neutrals if they each get one early enough!

I'm going with Chiefs, Rams, Saints and Jags... though I think the Bills are most likely to cause an upset.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,778 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

Can't see past the 4 home teams as well. I do think Atlanta on account of their experience can pull an upset and the Saints-Panthers game is probably the most evenly matched tie, but home advantage should be good enough.

I fancy the Falcons to upset the Rams tonight.

Really looking forward to the Falcons/Rams and Panthers/Saints games, think all games apart from the Titans/Chiefs will be close calls but going to go with

    Titans @ Chiefs

    Falcons @ Rams

    Bills @ Jags

    Panthers @ Saints

I'm going with all home wins this year.

Can't wait for Falcons @ Rams.

So I am. If the fans turn up and fill that massive stadium it could be a brilliant atmosphere.

    DeMarcus Ware on Sky.

Only 11 games left this season!

It probably will be but I hope it's not a blow out!

    This for me.

I've no dog in the playoff fight but just hope that most of the games are close and exciting. :)

Hill needed that at after the two drops, here comes the first of many for the Chiefs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

I'm no expert, but man coverage on Hill every play seems like a terrible idea.

This is going to be an even worse mauling than I expected.
And I expected it to be bad.

Dreadfully one-sided game so far. The Chiefs look way superior. I am very tired. It will be tough not to head to bed soon.

    Marcus Peters is a superstar.

    Shocking throw all the same.

    Man up! :P

Well that's probably it unless the Titans prevent a score this drive.

Where did the electric Mariota from last year go? I know he's been playing injured and his WRs have struggled, but from what I've seen this year his accuracy and decisions have somehow fallen off a cliff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭coco0981

Thought the chiefs might win this easy, so far titans look so poor on offense
