    What would it be ?

Is there anything that can beat the Burpee? (with push up) ?! Strength and conditioning, cardio, low impact, can be done anywhere. 5 minutes

Most people do a terrible impression of doing a burpee so I wouldn't be inclined to go with that.

What are your criteria? Low impact, can be done anywhere, cardio, S&C element?

Without being able to increase the load, you'll get a limited enough strength benefit from it. It would quickly become just a cardio exercise.

I should have said including the press up in the Burpee. I just noticed that it it an extremely popular exercise in America, but not here for some reason. Basically an exercise you can do absolutely anywhere. 5 minutes done

I've rarely seen ot done properly. It's usually flopping to the ground, scrambling up with a token jump. And there's impact on elbows and wrists when people flop to do the 'press up'.

That said, I'm not saying it isn't a good exercise, per se. Just it's not done particularly well for the most part.

To be honest, it would probably be better to just so press ups and the jumps separately.

Or do lunges or squats with press ups.

Have a resistance band in your wallet/purse and you'll be sorted ;)

if you've only 5mims to train then youll need 30mins, its like meditation, if you dont have time for a proper workout then you need to look at life outside of training.

Whats important to cover in 5mins? Find where your mobility needs attention and go address it

    Swimming?

Edit: Missed the 5 minutes can be done anywhere thing.

So what would be your one exercise as per the OP?

I didn't get an answer on the criteria.

Besides, it's a moot point if you're looking for something to do in 5 minutes. Even when Hanley was here, he had a suite of go-to exercises to do for getting some form of workout in when time was tight, eg being away with work etc but they were routinely 10 minutes and we're only stop gaps to blow off cobwebs.

The answer is there is nothing that is of much use if you're only going to give 5 minutes over to any physical exercise. You'd be better served by making sure your diet was right and getting an extra 5 mins of sleep.

The criteria was laid out in the OP, overall wellbeing and health - no need to compliment it.

    OP - Hill Sprints.

Overall wellbeing and health is very vague.

One of the other criteria was 'can be done anywhere' which rules out hill sprints.

Resting squat for 5 mins will help a lot. Done hands free, you could combine it with some resistance band pullaparts or something

Walking is simplest answer and least likely to result in injury for the majority of the population.

For maintenance of flexibility etc, I think yoga does wonders. Suits all ages, no equipment needed really, can be done anywhere, and can be done as “hard” or as easy as you want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭freemenfitness

As plenty have said there is no wonder exercise for a 5 minute fix it's also hard as you then need an exercise that includes no warm up.

I would say some form of crawling you can alter it to work on strength, motor control or mobility depending on goals and it's pretty easy to make it more or less intense.

There's plenty of useful things you can do in a spare 5 mins.

But planning a routine to be 5mins of the same thing everyday - you need rethink what you're doing.

If you take out the ridiculous 5 minute limit it would have to be cardio. Actually it would be sprints and you could probably do them in about 15 minutes. That for me would give the most benefit overall. You won't get that feel good feeling off any other exercise.
