Feckin can't remember my pin to exit restricted profile.... Anyone any ideas?

Scratch that, I was sure I was entering the pin correctly, and all of a sudden it just accepted it. Madness.

So this happened again with my Shield TV last night, without installing any update. Connection to the internet just died suddenly. Switched between ethernet and WiFi but nothing worked. Rebooted the device, rebooted my router, still nowt. Went to bed and left it, now everything is working fine.

    Has anyone had this problem?

This has happened again. Bit of a dose at this stage tbh.

Now it won't even power up. Turned it off as it couldn't connect to the internet, left it for a while, and won't turn back on. Plugged the power cord in and out a few times and nothing.

I think this all started when I updated to version 8.2.2 back at the start of the year. No problems before then at all, now these sporadic outages, and this latest dying on me episode.

Might be just a coincidence - it must started dying... Check power supply and if replacement doesn't help, retire it :(

I only bought it last August. It's hardly bricked already is it? It's the tube, not the Pro.

Can you try booting with a different TV and HDMI cable?

Or just contact Nvidia and get a replacement.

It has resurrected itself, thankfully. I changed the time setting from Manual to Automatic. My VPN may have been adding to the problem. It seems like a issue others have had: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/393934/wifi-connected-but-no-internet/?topicPage=29

    Hi All,

I've two 2017 NVIDIA Shields and use both for Plex but both have lost the Plex Server option out of the settings menu.

Both still have a Plex Server app which I've updated etc but neither are showing Plex Server in the setting app and neither will run the Plex server.

Have NVIDIA stopped supporting the Plex Server part of the Plex app or Vice Versa?

    Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I did a while back. I had to delete the App, and rebuild the server

Leak of the next Shield homescreen with GTV inspiration. Top row recommendations likely to be included.

Yep, just finished doing the same and all is working again but it really highlights how Plex server was a good idea for the Shield but is always an afterthought.

Thanks for the advice, at least now I'm back up and running until then next time the Shield version of the Plex software drops the ball.

Does HBO max run on the Nvidia (with nordvpn)?

I was coincidentally reading on Reddit today that HBO Max was pretty poor on the Shield even if you didn't need a VPN.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Has anyone encountered any issues with accessing a friend's server on Plex? When I try to access their library/server on Plex, it doesn't load and just has the yellow ! triangle. But if I access it from my Plex Media server on the PC is displays and I can see his library. He has 2 libraries, but the other one displays fine on PLex, but just not the other one, so trying to figure out if it's on my end or his?

Hi All picking up a 2019 Tube for a daily member will just be using it for IPTV Netflix and a few other apps like Kodi. I want to also extend the memory with a Micro SD card, I know it should be class 10 and decent read write speeds, I will probably get a 32 or 64Gb card just wanted to know if any other tube owners recommend a reliable card/brand based on their experience?
Back on the original shield that took the micro SD card I did have a problem where a card I used worked fine for a few months then it started to lock up the shield randomly just stopped responding seemed to relate to the micro SD card so removed and it started working fine again, can't remember the brand but it wasn't a cheap no name.
So any recommendations please let me know thanks

I moved from Plex to Jellyfin a few years ago and haven't had any issues with it.

I've never gone near steam but might it work to use the shield app on your phone to type into it?

Yeah tried that but the keyboard input just doesn’t appear . It’s like it isn’t the right format or something

That's Nvidia Geforce Now (similar to Google Stadia). Go to a PC and login to Steam there using GFN, that will create a virtual machine with your Steam login. Then quit out (do not logout) and use the Shield, it should connect to the same VM and all you'll need is to input password.

I use GFN all the time, it's great.

ok - don't fully understand how that will work ? should i download the game i want there while on the pc/laptop? so you reckon this will bypass need to login on Shield purely because its on the same network?

Geforce now is a game streaming service, you connect to a Nvidia virtual PC in the cloud to play the game remotely and the supported game installs in Steam in seconds. When you first connect to GFN from the laptop the virtual machine is then created and you login and authenticate with Steam, the virtual machine gets the Steam authentication token like a real PC. Then you reconnect to the virtual machine from the Shield you connect to an already existing virtual machine that already setup and has Steam authentication.

Login here with your Nvidia account

I've just changed the batteries in my 2019 remote and the backlight now stays on all the time. I know people mentioned issues after changing batteries before, but any solution for this one? (Sorry can't search on mobile).

I can disable the backlight in the settings, but prefer not to. Looks like turning off the on button press option fixes it. Resetting the batteries and restarting the Shield have not fixed it.

Edit: Re-pairing seems to have fixed the issue.

Using a different launcher is only option afaik.

That's a nuisance.I don't have Disney and never use Google Play.It wouldn't be too bad it it was for apps I actually use.

Settings > Apps > see all apps > Show system apps > Android TV Home > Uninstall updates

You need to manually stop updates so you don't get updated homescreen (Settings > Device Preferences > About > System Upgrade > Toggle Auto-upgrade)
