Northwood Gym (New machines)

Northwood opened back up this morning and I just wanted to get peoples opinion on the new equipment. I was only using the cardio machines today but I was very disappointed.

The cross trainers in my opinion are absolutely terrible. They're so uncomfortable and appear to be at an angle that makes you lean forward and the handles are too short. My neck was killing me afterwards. I heard other people complaining about them and some people used them for about 5 mins before giving up or walking around to see if there was any of the old equipment left.

The sit down bikes are uncomfortable aswell. The seat is like a bucket and feels like you're stuck in it.

The best of the bad bunch was the threadmill. It's ok but there's nowhere to put a towel and the bar with the heart rate monitor is too low.

I think overall the equipment looks cheap, just wanna see what other people think

--- Hadn't intended it, but this turned into a bit of a moan, instead of a response :pac:

Always found the Cross trainers to be like that in there, even the previous ones. Terrible yokes. The new Bikes are fine IMO - I used the old ones everyday, and the new ones are not bad. The Posture is not that different to the old ones. The Biggest difference on the bikes is that they maintain torque no matter the speed, the old ones lost torque as you sped up.

While I haven't gone over everything that is new, the absolute worst new thing is the new benches, they aren't flat! Completely idiotic design. You can't sit at the end of them as the "seat" is tilted back permanently. Makes lifting heavier weights from a sitting position onto your knees almost impossible.

Oh another thing, the new squat racks with a huge bar right in the way of the mirror, when at the base of a squat, genius design. The Rests for the bar are exactly 10mm too tall for me to use comfortably, so I've to use a lower pair of rests, and it feels all wrong for now....

The removal of some of the stretching mats is also annoying as they are the first thing that a queue forms for in peak times.

Overall I'd have been happier with the old stuff (first world problems), but it was looking a bit tatty, and can understand why it was felt it needed to be updated.

    Nate

People will always have a moan about new equipment, people generally don't like change.

I haven't used the cross trainers, but the treadmill is as good as anything you'll find anywhere. And I'd normally spend 45 minutes on them.

The new machines, weights, benches etc upstairs are brilliant IMO.

Fantastic improvements overall. Pity the some of the members are still messy bastards.

    people generally don't like change.

    .

This is a meaningless cliche. People are entitled to have an opinion taken as a genuine observation.
