Has anybody been ? What did they think ? Only accepting cash for photos, and don't issue a receipt. How do they get away with it?

Possibly because nobody bothers to report them.

Have you considered that the photographer doesn't work for Dunnes and doesn't accept credit cards?

Why pay a photographer if you have a phone?

    Still should issue a receipt!

For use as a receipt. Does there need to be a reason?

Does there need to be a reason?

    Usually, and reasonably, yes.

You’re hardly going to return your photograph? The last thing someone needs is a receipt for their child’s Santa picture. There’s enough litter in the world

There is no onus to issue a receipt unless it is asked for.

Get Santa to sign the photo
    1 You have a receipt
2 The kids will be delighted
3 Revenue will know who to sue for tax

Why would santa pay tax against the photographers income?

    Yep the machine was broken😉

Imagine complaining you never got a receipt for a child's photo with a supermarket Santa life must be good.

Proof of purchase for returning is just one of the functions of a receipt. Some people use them for tracking spending. If the child is in care, the care worker might need to produce a receipt to get her expenses paid.

There are probably other reasons too.

In 20 years time you can tell the kids they saw Santa when they were younger... and you have the receipt to prove it

It doesn't seem that the op needed a receipt for any of these reasons if so they could have just refused the photo.
It's not that difficult a decision really.

If they want to track their spending they can make a note of it in their phone if it really matters that much. Doubt those are the reasons though

How they "get away with it" is very simple, there's no legal obligation to issue a receipt, thats how. It just like there is no legal obligation on you to purchase their services, the onus is on you to refuse to purchase if they refuse to issue one.

Has the op clarified if she asked for one?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭Snotty

I'm guessing the OP stood in the queue and was then told they only accept cash, so came here to bring this travesty to our attention.

What are you going to do with the reindeer when you win your court case against Santa OP

No sales tax in the North Pole and sure isn't that where Santa HQ is located

Op, did you ask Santa if he paid the import duty on his gifts? Not sure what trade agreement there exists between EU and North Pole, I suppose the U.K. Will have to negotiate with Santa as part of Brexit.

Dont forget the VAT! Could be seeing santa having to make a disclosure to revenue in time to come.

Maybe the aer corp could send up a casa to set up an aeriel checkpoint on christmas eve.
    Ba Humbug!

Mmm, some of the responses are very After Hours. Is it normally this edgy in Consumer Issues?

I assume the inference from the OP is that she suspects the photographer may be less than honest with their tax returns?

And producing a receipt is proof of nothing in that regard.

Agree, but for the service provider it proves how much money he has taken so if revenue do decide to take an interest in them they have proof of their income.
