In the werewolf threads - I know its some sort of game but how the hell is it played or what the hell do you do ??

Can anyone enlighten the good folk of after hours about your little club over there and why we were not invited!

Best way to answer it is to sign up and play the next game, learn on the job!

In brief: players are randomly assigned roles by the game mods: goodies/villagers or baddies/wolves. The villagers outnumber the wolves, but play on their own. The wolves have a "backroom" in which to strategise together. The aim of the game is to wipe out the other team. Wolves get to kill every night. All players, villagers and wolves, get to lynch a player during the day. Wolves of course know who their team-mates are so will avoid killing them. Villagers don't know who's good or who's bad, so during the lynch could be killing one of their own for all they know. It's up to everybody to convince everybody else that they shouldn't be killed.

That's it in its basic format. Themes are added to the game to make it more interesting, like the latest Wrestling one, or previous Game of Thrones, or Buffy or whatever. There are also various other complications that can make it interesting, like villagers with certain powers that can help their team, or more than one wolf team playing, so they're competing not just against the village, but against the other wolves.

It's great craic, and a great community has built up. I'd recommend it. Though a warning - it is addictive, and a game can take a week of your time, so it's likely that you won't get much else done during that week.

I only got involved earlier this year as a game that was ongoing popped up in the trending threads.

Being the curious pup that i am i signed up for the next game and nearly 7 months later they cant get rid of me :pac:

All game sign ups go in the Forum Games... forum which anyone can post in. Its so much fun, but very time consuming.

I only had about 1000 posts before i signed up :pac:

The very first game actually started in AH. It had to move cause folks who hadnt read the invitation post hadnt a ****ing notion what was happening (that may have made the mods uneasy who, understandably in this case, also hadnt a ****ing notion what was going on)

Now its got its own forum and qb gave a super summary above. Pop in, have a look, and if you like (and can commit some time for about a week, plus your sanity) then please sign up for the December game. Some of the newer players hopefully can tell you how utterly engrossing it is

But somebody accuses you by posting: "I think DivingDuck is a wolf, let's lynch him", and it's up to you to try and convince us otherwise. Of course there's lots of pointing of fingers at lots of different players so others could have heat on them too. You might be innocent, and just look wolfey, or you might be a genuine wolf that's given yourself away in your posts. The person accusing you might genuinely think you're a wolf, or might be accusing you for strategic reasons. There are lots of different scenarios, and every game is different.

No smarts needed. The latest game just finished, there'll be a sign-up thread for the December game (there's about one game a month) soon, so give it a go. You'll be amazed how quickly you pick it up and get in the spirit.

As a new player in this last game I recommend you read the rules, get a handle on the different roles and then forget all of it. Once the game kicks off it's like you're a trainee nurse trying to sell the MMR to a room full of Jenny McCarthies. Nothing you say makes sense any more and everyone you thought you could trust turns on you and rips you to pieces.

It's ****ing brilliant.

Just join a game, you'll pick it up! Everyone else is possibly evil, scrutinise everything and prepare to have crazy links making you look evil as the crowd turns on you. Mad stuff.

Really though, its best played rather than explained. Christmas Signups have started!

Cant recommend it highly enough, only started in September i think, on a whim based on seeing it trending so much. Hadnt a clue for my first game but its a really intriguing game although if your a naturally paranoid person then its probably not for you

I've played and it's good craic. You really do need time though and a laptop instead of your phone.
Maybe I will get involved in one in the new year. I was pretty terrible though but sure that just adds to the fun.
