Not with a bang but with a whimper, the Arcade, Retro & Emulation forum is no more.
    Long Live The Arcade&Retro forum!

Yeah, lack of traffic and some discomfort with the modification to the remit of the forum means that a rename was in order.

So we return to the original mission, to explore strange niche consoles, to seek out new retro gets and arcade machines, to boldly collect what no one has collected before!!

    So, that's that.

Your "I told you so" gifs may be posted below.
I have no ego left at this stage, no pride whatsoever to damage :(

    They were scary times.

May I suggest the next rename is 'Arcade, Retro and Sega' forum? :D

It should be Arcade, Retro, Sega & Emulation.

Obviously we'll have to use an abbreviation...

Joking aside, any plans in the pipeline for a more suitable place to discuss emulation?

    :pac:

I was wondering what his post meant!

I didn't have a problem with emulation threads but for some reason I didn't like the word itself in the forum title, no idea why. If there's a poster in A&R that hasn't dabbled in emulation then they're telling porkies.

Anyway, maybe a separate sub-forum is better suited - A&R Emulation Basement. :D

That was precisely the ship I was referencing!

But, I won't be touching the idea of an Emulation sub forum for a while.
    Let another forum do it.

    and

Not a bit, wassitsname, to bail on a forum because of the name?

Anyways, yeah, there we go, A&R and all that.

Mind boggling people gave that much of a rats arse what it was called.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I think it was kinda less so the naming, and more so the awkward fit that emulation often has amongst retro enthusiasts and purists.

    Ah now, come on.
Emulation of arcade and retro games has been part of this forum for years.
The name change was no more than cosmetic, really.
The notion of the forum being changed for the worse is, in my opinion, a crock.
There have been people, coming and going, as folk do.
We've seen regulars become occasional posters and slightly less posting more frequently.
But there has been no net change in the content of the forum regardless of the forum title.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,826 ✭✭✭Inviere

Indeed, for me it didn't affect this forum in the slightest. It did however, place a bit of a stranglehold on developing emulation discussion...as we seen, the topic never took off, despite it being perfectly fine to discuss here. The only people who want to discuss emulation in depth, are people who are keen on emulation; that's just not the majority of posters here.

Just to say also, it was a well intended try (to develop more emulation discussion), so credit where its due :)

I was hoping that the formalisation of Emulation into the forum would generate increased cross topic traffic, seeing as the target behaviour, that of playing arcade and retro games, was the same, just the pathway different.

    Anyway.

I'm glad to see people return, the place wasn't the same without you.
And I hope I don't try to feck it all up.... again...

    Few other alternatives being considered:

Arcade & Retro & Rise of the Robots

Arcade & Retro & Plug n Play Megadrive Clones

Arcade & Retro & 'does it take an SD card?'

    Retro & Arcade

So with the name change does that mean we can mock all the emulation peasants like the fallen from grace Inviere?

I keep forgetting to add Wii points to pick some of the Wiiware stuff. Think the cut-off for adding new points is like March 2018, so plenty of time, but I've been meaning to add'em for months now.

At some point, older games will need to be referred to in specific ages rather than all lumped together as 'retro'.

I know we have console 'generations', but they're far too nondescript to make reference to.
