    What do you think?

Because at the last census, the figures showed a male unemployment rate of 37.8%, meaning that 62.2% are working.

So, you're talking out of your hoop their chief.

The Island Field in Limerick is the most deprived, though Darndale is severely deprived yes. Stop reading tabloid newspapers, there is no conspiracy here, it is deprived.

In 2016 the male unemployment rate was 45%, big jump from that to 97%. Granted this is male only but it is indicitive.

I don't know about the statistics. It was apparently built based on an award winning design but then built in a much smaller space than intended. Too many houses close together.

I heard it was built on an Indian burial ground.

They get everything for free, so 'deprived' isn't accurate. The local culture and level of criminality is the problem.

Cool story. What station and show did you hear it on?

To be honest, looking at that map, the data is not adding up with reality. Not sure what they are using to determine if an area is deprived or affluent. But according to that map, people living by Heuston Station are far more affluent than those living anywhere in the Dublin 4 area.

Likewise, looking at some of the smaller zones next to each other in the city center, where there is literally only one or two apartment complexes per zone, they have different figures for the two zones, despite rent, accommodation type/standard, renters, social group etc pretty much the exact same between the apartment complexes, and thus, zones.

Not directly familiar with Darndale but I know the other place mentioned on the thread - Island Field, Limerick. The amount of resources dedicated to it over the years by the state would not permit one to use the work 'deprived' in any denotative sense.

In fact, if one were to tot everything spent on such areas and divide it by the number of inhabitants, I'm sure the resulting figure would be staggering.

The only place in Ireland where only 3% are working is a ****ing cemetery.

Darndale maybe be deprived but it isn't a favella.

I always wonder about the fact we pay so much to support these people. Does it stave off crime or something?

    Maybe it's worth it

That's 62.2% of the labour force, not the adult pop.

Many adults would be inactive in the LF in this area.
