How do I wire Accessories?

Basically my boat wiring is a mess and i only know the basics. Currently and for years my boat is wired in a way that every accessory (Charter, VHF, Nav lights , spotlight) comes on regardless of the key position .. even if the key is out.

How do I make my accesiores come on only with the ignition (pos1) ? My Rev and fuel are the only two that do so.

Another question. Would it be better to wire Positive and negative feed from the engine or the Battry ? The last so called mechanic wired the bulge pump directly to the engine hence it’s always kicks in when the water builds up and his feed for the accesiores is joining into the Barttry leads followed by black tape... The butcher I call him hehe

    Many Thanks !

Here is how I wired mine you take your live from the same poll your fuel gauge is on and run it to the fuse box then run from the right amp fuse using the right gauge wire to what ever you want to power. Your bilge pump can be run off a 3 way switch with one live from the fuse box and one straight from the battery that way you can have it set to on, off and always on will run through a float switch so when you are away from the boat it will still pump out if it starts to fill up with water, keep in mind that this can drain your battery if your away for a long time, maybe you could fit a solar panel to keep it toped up.

Great bit of information. That’s the very method I’ll use and the solar panel is a great idea . Basically it will be wired the same as the picture supplied , very nice boat btw ⛵️

Hi there and I had similar issues with my Wellcraft. I rewired much like fergal suggested as well as adding a few extras, as in depthsounder , 12v sockets and some extra lighting. I replaced the old glass type fuse board with a blade type , like in cereals picture and relocated it inside the cabin. The old one was beneath the helm/ dash and suffered from the elements. Worth considering if it's not already so.
I also added a solar panel as I suffered a drained battery as described , on a previous boat, due to the float switch sticking "on".
Take pictures and mark everything, make diagrams as you go along. It can get confusing very easily!
