    Hi ,

Basically I’m revamping my electrics on my 5.1 meter redbay Rib and I’m open for advice ðŸ§

I realised it needed done as the so called “Marine Experts” made a butcher attempt wireing most items . They have joined numeriois cables into one 12 volt feed and sealed it with duck tape! The switches are light and flimsy.

    ***My Plan***
    1. Run another 12v feed from the battery (stern) to the centre console.(6 foot cable approx)

    2. Install a negative busbar and a waterproof fuse box in the centre console.

    4. Connect spotlight (40watts) with 16 gauge 2 core tinned cable (5 m opprox) . The negative spot wire will connect to the neg on switch then connected to busbar. The positive will connect to the fuse box. 5amp fuse

    5. Forgot to say I’m adding a battery cut off at the battery

Basically this is my idea. I only need two switch’s and I plan on connecting the negative on VHF for example to the busbar and positive to the fusbox.

If anyone has a problem or a better idea please let me know ! Where would be my best options to buy such items ?

    Many thanks !

I've found https://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/ to be good for boat electrical stuff...excellent range and detailed information. They do free shipping in the UK, and you can use something like DPD Parcel Wizard to forward it to you for €3.85. Just make sure you buy the marine versions of things (heat shrink/tinned etc) as they also cater to the automotive and camper van market.

I tried to find an Irish supplier but none had everything I was looking for at a reasonable price. Maybe if I rang them, but this is 2018.

You're idea seems fine. Don't forget to put a fuse on the positive feed for the battery (close to the battery).

Is there just one spotlight? Usually the switch is one the pos side. Doesn't really make a difference on a 12v DC system but might confuse the next owner if you ever sell the boat!

Don't use cheap crimps. Marine parts probably have decent crimps.
