Not a bad episode. Okay yes it had some ridiculous parts thats expected but compared to the first 3 I give this best episode so far. Im starting to like this Rick and Daryl tag team would like to see more of just them two.

You'd think they (King, Carol, Jerry) should have tried to use one of the other vehicles left behind by the Saviours rather than limp through a forest.
Or at least a scene signalling to the viewer that the vehicles couldn't be used.

But logical thought isn't playing much of a part to date this season.

The best one so far IMHO. Not great, but didn't truly suck. The never ending a-Team ammunition spraying is getting a bit daft at this stage though.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Very solid episode and apart from all the Shakespearian intermittent speeches, I thought it was well-written, well-directed, and well-acted, and signs of things beginning to pick up, I think. Tension obviously is hard to build up when such big characters like Rick, Carol, Daryll and Ezekiel are seemingly in danger as we all know they ain't going anywhere anytime soon but it was still exciting.

The disintegration of the majestical persona of Ezekiel was important at this stage and the actor, I thought was excellent, the whole way through.

Particularly the scenes where he was being dragged, mocked and given some harsh realities by the Saviour.

Carol was back to her best, having been such a shadow character, who I barely noticed half the time the first few episodes and I am glad the tiger is gone. And knowing, from having read the comics, that this was going to happen sooner or later, (I think, in the comics it happened a good bit later), it was no surprise.

I also like the fact it has been somewhat explained that Maggie, Rick and Ezekiel are wanted in the Sanctuary alive rather than dead as it takes away all the silliness that they will seem to escape every danger from the Saviours.

A lot of it was predictable, the speech, the massacre, Ezekiel being saved, Carol saving the day, Jerry saving the day, Sheeva dying, Rick and Daryll getting the guns and Ezekiel seemingly falling into reality and depression goin forward............until naturally he will inevitably get his mojo back and save the day (or at least some day)

But, as I said, a good bit better and next weeks episode based around the Sanctuary mainly looks promising and a lot more character based which are the episodes I prefer and an episode that is badly needed at this stage given the computer game like shootout episodes that we have been privy to so far this season

Ill give it an 8, mainly out of relief that things are looking better now possibly for the show, a solid 7 otherwise

'the first four episodes will blow you away''

    hmmm....

good episode, depends how much you're into ezekiel as he it very centric to him.

One thing that came across....He's now in the same place rick and the group were when negan batted glenn/abe...hopeless, broken, lost everything.

Enjoyed this episode but then again the bar was set pretty low! With Shiva gone I'm sure it's opened up the SFX budget so hopefully we won't be subject to any more bad CGI.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭thegreengoblin

If you like Ezekiel this was for you. I don't so it wasn't.

You could almost hear the sighs of relief from the producers as Shiva got savaged to death. No more expensive but crap CGI. They didn't even go balls out for that scene either, it was as bad as we've come to expect.

This episode has actually been getting good reviews. I don't know whether it's a case of well it's not as bad as it has been so therefore it's good. But the Forbes review in particular talks about ' a surprising return to form' and 'a real sense of tension, fear or excitement'...Where? We all knew Ezekiel was going to make it through, same for Carol, same for Jerry.

Then the review came up with this gem Without this awful opening scene, I could honestly call this a near-perfect episode of The Walking Dead. Seriously? It was a million miles away from a near-perfect episode. Or am I missing something here?

That Rick and Daryl chase was like a cross between Mad Max and Indiana Jones. Bizarre stuff. Again we had another laughable moment with Carol outfoxing a truly stoopid Saviour. And then, as they desperately tried to reach safety, the three of them watching Shiva..and watching...and watching. Just go now for ffs!

Also, has it taken four episodes just to deal with a big shootout and its aftermath? I feel lost every time I watch this show now.

The problem with this show is they added so many uninteresting characters that have very little chemistry. The original cast I cared about, season 1 and 2 in particular were excellent imo. Anyone remember back when Dale died and the emotion it invoked? Ezekiel is on the brink of death at the gate and I'm browsing listening to the audio only because I don't give a crap. Characters like Daryl, Rick and others have become just another boring character on the show, it's lost all it's mojo. Endless speeches and awful dialogue that do nothing other than fill time. The tiger death was so ridiculous I won't go into it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,133 ✭✭✭GottaGetGatt

Carol... "I have lots of ammo" Yet doesn't use them to shoot the wheels of the truck. Honestly is this the only show some people are watching. This season has being a pile of Sh1te. There's better writing in Home and Away at this stage. Daryl goes flying off the bike but somehow manages to pull of some Tron Legacy sh!t and get behind Rick in the matter of a minute. Its frustrating to watch tbh.

So many times I thought something was stupid in that episode. The wild random firing with infinite magazines. The whole truck that carol was behind was hit, but not the tyres. Carol not shooting under the humvee when the 2 guys sit at the front, it must be 3ft off the ground.
The 50 cal shooting ricks jeep and all he gets is a hole in the radiator.

A lot better than the last three episodes. Zombie show needed more zombies and we got that.

The hick younger bill gates wannabie goading Ezekiel every two minutes was fierce annoying. Glad he get filleted but three scenes too many.

Maybe now he's had his crisis moment we'll get a break from the numerous speeches that all say pretty much the same thing only with slightly different vocabulary. But sure Gimple will probably throw in a few dozen Negan monologues complete with swaying to make up for it.

I didn't enjoy the start of this episode, time jump back and then oh look a speech, two of my least favourite things on TWD. Got better as it went along but definitely not a classic. Also the cgi was noticeably bad in a few spots, they'll be glad to be rid of the Tiger now they can save the $3.50 they would have spent.

The amount of dead at the start is very inaccurate. A .5 weapon is an area denial weapon that sprays rounds in a general direction but was shown to be like a sniper rifle or such it was that accurate that it managed to kill everyone no matter where they were.

You wouldn't be left with a hole in ya if hit by a .5 round as you would be cut in 2 halves. That wouldn't have suited of course as then there wouldn't have been any walkers then

.5 would have annialated ricks jeep

No sign of ammo boxes in the humvee which are quite large

.5 weapons are a 3 crew man lift while loose no way 2 men could lift them in thier transport box like they were thrown about

At no point did anyone think to shoot out the tyres of the humvee that contains the .5 weapons

No room in the back of the humvee to open up the .5 weapons tripod never mind set up the entire weapon while on the move.

The king and co decide to head through the woods instead of using a vehicle or head into the buildings to recover.

Humvee went through the crash barrier like it was made of paper rather than rub along it as it's designed to do.

.5 rate of fire is quite slow due to the rounds size but when being fired off the back of the humvee it was firing like an AR15

    I could go on......

Please don't. I don't think a majority of viewers really give a toss about the discrepancy between heavy-duty weaponry in reality and in a fictitious television show based on the living dead.

Writers of such shows and movies need to embellish or minimize the impact of various weapons at times. Not everything needs to be accurate, it's not Black Hawk Down, it's based off a comic book.

Better episode than the previous ones, imo. The show has certainly dropped in quality and will, most likely, never reach the same levels as previous seasons, but found this to be a better effort and, usually, I tune out entirely when Ezekiel is onscreen.

Carol.. fires burst of about 10 bullets at zombies.
We need to go, I’m running out of ammo....eh u dumb Bitch you just wasted 10 bullets or so on body shots instead of firing single shot and taking them all out.
To be honest we’d be better off if this, Arrow and the flash just got canned. They must share the same dumbass writers between them.

I havent followed this season and just thought I'd give episode 4 a look since all the paint in my house finished drying earlier today.

    Yep, still utter shíte.

The tiger death.........hah! Could they not have had it die underneath an avalanche of zombies maybe..........make it even slightly believable. 6 zombies pull apart an enormous tiger with their bare hands!

Not worth mentioning the terrible shootouts, inane dialogue, attempts to be grandiose and impactful which just come off as pure cheese.

How far this show has fallen. They really do not give a fraction of a shít anymore. It's just a pure bilge factory and they'll keep churning it out as long as they can.

It was a decent episode, but not hard compared to previous episodes this season.. I could still go on about the many many flaws.

I don't mind Ezekiel either, more tolerable (somehow) than Naggin. Glad to see him kinda step back from this Kingdom ****e all the same tho. A reality check for the inexperience king apparently. Glad to see the tiger dead too, was a pointless inclusion over-all with little to no effect. (and a poorly written death all the same.)

Btw does someone have a remote control that can speed up or slow down the zombies? Really inconsistent in that department. One minute the zombies are up their asses and then its a scene of one falling and they talk for a minute, yet the zombies are not moving towards them or are even further away!

Someone made a gif of the 50 cal bullets hitting the windshield of Ricks jeep during the chase and not even cracking it. You know, the same 50 cal bullets that destroyed the radiator of the jeep.

Also, i pissed myself laughing at Carols daring rescue that involved the actress who plays her looking bored out of her mind, wiggling her gun up and down a little bit while bad CG flew out of it.

    Dire.

I'd be great if the zombies were like in 28 days later, that would up the adrenaline.

I'm even talking about a living man, tiger muscles are more densely packed, so for every pound of their muscle vs ours they are stronger. Not a good ending

It is the best of the season so far, but that's not saying much. Hopefully it will continue on this upward trajectory, but going on past form we'll end up with a dull-as-ditchwater filler episode soon enough.

An improvement on the other episodes so far but when did we get bulletproof tyres as standard in America? Carol hid behind a jeep and it was shot to bits but the soft rubber tyres remained untouched. She ended up with an AK-47 and didn't think to shoot the tyres on the truck to stop the 2 saviours driving off or at least slow their progress.

I thought Shiva deserved a better death. A much larger walker herd, plus having her take out a substantial amount of them before being overwhelmed would have been more fitting. Although maybe that whole scene was
just to emphasise how beaten down Ezekiel was, having to watch her die in a muddy ditch, with only a small group of walkers able to pull her down.

I also noticed how the walkers seemed to be closer, then further away in some scenes, nearly on top of Ezekiel and Nerdy Saviour sometimes, then miles away when they needed to stop and make a speech :D

And HOW did that machine gun not rip Rick and the jeep apart? That guy must have been a wojus shot!! My disbelief was well suspended at that stage.

I'm guessing we'll see Leany McLeanbackwardson and Gabriel next week.

I'm really hoping after this season or better yet in this season we get away from the forest and Alexandria and move into more urban landscape just to change it up a bit. I know its safer outside and away from urban areas but for the purpose of keeping it from been stale new surroundings would be nice.

First of all, I've not yet read the comments on this thread, nor the credits for the episode.

I've been the first on every thread thus far, to lambast the incredibly poor quality of this season thus far - from acting, to direction, to scripting, and even the incredibly lacklustre action choreography, which has dragged the show down to the level of pantomime.

But...credit where credit is due, this episode really surprised me. Not just a very decent episode, with very real weight, emotion, and visceral action behind it but...an actual return of form to sorts for The Walking Dead itself in principle. Finally, an episode that genuinely feels like it's earned the right to display that spine tingling opening crawl.

I don't know if it's a different director, or what it is behind the scenes of this particular episode that has suddenly brought it around, but I'm delighted to actually say I really enjoyed this episode from start to finish and actually felt something I've not felt in god knows how long - a real sense of weight, peril, emotion as well as significant narrative and character progression.

Is it a 10/10 episode? In its own right, no...and there are still glaring problems there but compared to the utter drivel that was the preceeding episodes, this is actual solid gold.

    Fingers crossed for the future.

Just after watching it, whilst I feel it was an improvement on the previous 3 episodes this season, so much annoyed me with this episode.

the choreography was lame, the saviors seem to be getting stupider and more incompetent as the episodes go back, Carol hip firing the rifle on full auto (Why not save ammo?), Jerry somehow appearing out of thin air to save the king at the last second. Also as people mentioned previously, the 50 cal plinking off Ricks Jeep like a pellet gun, the ridiculous tiger death, a 500 pound killing machine set upon by 8 shambling, decaying humans and its immediately game over.

Although regarding the shooting of the hummer tyres to prevent escape, military vehicles have heavy duty run flat tyres and would be able to drive a considerable distance on shot up tyres.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,077 ✭✭✭Shelflife

I just speed watch the episodes now, the speeches are so cringeworthy.

I realise that we have to suspend belief as it’s a zombie film but ffs Could Carol not bend down and shoot them as they crouched behind the truck, could she not have blown out the tyres ?

How could he miss Ricks jeep yet get nailed first time by a man on a motor bike with a pistol.

Why do they always wait for the zombies to overrun them when you could use your mobility to pick most of them off on the fringes.

I’m just watching now as I’ve invested so much time but it’s getting sooo bad and there are so many holes in the storyline lately it’s getting annoying.

She was behind the engine block was she not?

They shot the ****e out of the jeep yet went against all the A Team logic that when you shoot loads of bullets at a vehicle you'll hit the tyres every time.
