16 acres here, years back use to keep a few cattle but never made much money out of it,
have more time now so wanted to know how to make a better go of it with what should we keep, sheep seem good but again we never had them before,

    any suggestions?

Micro enterprises to which you can add value perhaps.

Depending on your soil type(s) you could adopt a mix of enterprises to bring in income throughout the year - pick your own fruit / pumpkins end of Summer- Autumn. Free range Turkeys for Christmas. For early season ie Spring - Early summer- higher value produce friend with the aid of a polytunnel might be viable if you sell direct or can contract to specialised buyers e.g. restaurants etc

Airbnb - There is a new venture for airbnb style campin. Takes a bit to set up - some people use Shepard huts - yurts etc if you are in a tourist destination all the better. Might require planning permission.

If you are looking for help take a look at various schemes such as international volunteers that will come and work in return for board / lodging and some skills training. Useful perhaps for the set up stage.

If You have some poor land - look at planting with forestry - you will get planting grants and a set premium after planting for a number of years.

You will know what suits your area best. Agri loans can be got for alternative enterprises.
