I would hve thought that film would have some good tips (just in case, like) and should be compulsory watching along with the pre flight instructions.

Especially when you consider some of cack they serve on flights as food.

They do show these films on though, with a warning that it may not be suitable for nervous flyers. I've seen flight and Sully on planes

Aren't they showing an aeroplane disaster movie in the movie Airplane? That scene rings a bell...one of the gags obviously. Great movie must watch it again actually.

They usually show the movies but cut out the airplane scenes. More than once I’ve rewatched a movie at home only to be like: WTF?!? Where did that scene come from...

Also, I was the guy who got yelled at for happily watching air crash disaster episodes on my iPad during a flight :-)

Rain Man can be shown, albeit without the airport scene where Raymond recalls airline fatalities.

Close but no cigar. It's a film of a very early drone flight that was testing new kerosene.

The idea is that airplane fuel when shaken would gel, thus making it less flammable and explosive if exposed to fire. To test this they got a standard commercial airplane, fitted it out with cameras and remote controls for flying it. It took off with an airforce pilot on board who jumped out via parachute.

The plane was to land on a disused strip which was fitted with shredders to rip the wings off as well as flares to try to ignite the fuel. The experiment went wrong as the pilot in the control tower charged with landing the plane crashed it on landing. Nevertheless they made some advances in the research and airplane fuel is now different to the r=early 1970's.

I think the experiment was carried out around 1977. Incidentally they took several weeks of tests, the plane took off and landed with a regular pilot, who handed over controls to the guy on the ground whilst in flight. The only thing they couldn't practice was the landing itself. They has one shot at it that went wrong.

Think movies on planes are the most heavily censored out of all film showings.

Lord of the flies and that film with Wesley Snipes passenger 75 or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 969 ✭✭✭Greybottle

Actually I'm wrong with the above explanation. The film seems to be from a 1964 experiment where a plane was dragged along the ground.

See 6:30 on this film here, interesting as well.

You think that's bad , my father was in the early stages of dementia and still working as a licensed inspection engineer for aircraft engine maintenance company.
