Orgasms in sleep

So I had a pretty healthy sex life in my twenties though always found it difficult to orgasm during sex unless there was lots of foreplay and I was comfortable with my partner etc. Since I moved home a few years back my sex life has become non existent so perhaps that explains my following situation.

For the last two years, since the age of about 33 I've started to experience very intense orgasms in my sleep. They are proper all body orgasms, something that I have never experienced by myself or with partners. I will wake up just at the end of it but I don't think I am touching myself or anything which is really odd. Where are they coming from??

I was looking up online and apparently 'sleep orgasms' are fairly common in women in the 30-45 age bracket. I would be interested to know if any other ladies have experienced this?

They are very intense and different (and more pleasurable) than what I've experienced before

It's interesting because I think I am experiencing the opposite. I think I experience clitoral orgasms with men or by myself and while they are pleasurable that pleasure is brief and is concentrated to the clitoral region so to speak. The ones I'm experiencing in my sleep are pleasurable at a much deeper level, I can feel it throughout my whole body and last a lot longer, if that makes sense?

I have always experienced pretty regular sleep orgasms, but often almost the opposite of yours - they're kind of functional feeling! They can happen at pretty much any point, not just during erotic dreams, so sometimes I just realise mid-dream "oh, I'm having an orgasm". Sometimes they're very pleasurable, like proper orgasms, and sometimes they're just enjoyable pulsing feelings that seem purely physiological. It's all a bit odd, but I'm not complaining :D.

I get these regularly enough. Like you op, I'm definitely not touching myself when they happen- typically I wake in the middle of one with my hands nowhere near my crotch. They're much more intense and pleasurable than those I have when fully awake.

    Me too!
I'm 30. I'm so glad I'm not alone as I thought it was some psychological something or other. Glad to know it's quite common.

Like the OP, mine are full body, out of control but I thought this was because I'm asleep and really really relaxed. I'm pretty sure they only started this year.

I'm married and have a healthy relationship with my husband so they're definitely not caused by anything lacking.

well its good to know that I'm not alone :)

I was chatting to a friend of mine last night and she said she started to get sleep orgasms when she was going through a stressful time in her early 30s. As ..... says its probably because we are in an unconscious state when we are sleeping and so thinking part of our brain is switched off.

I always thought that in sleep you dont have the benefit of the conscious mind interfering, so you dont have control because you are not conscious.

Yeah I think that's what I thought I was saying :pac: that makes sense

Oh no, no complaints here! :) Though it is kinda frustrating that the ones in my sleep are much better than the ones I've experienced in real life! Shows my body has the potential for it but I just need to switch my brain off more when having sex!

Do you wake up in the middle of the act?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 614 ✭✭✭notsoyoungwan

Yes, I usually wake up mid-orgasm

Yeah I usually wake up towards the end, they're intense so I tend to wake up due to the intensity.

I think this is part of it for me as well. I find it very hard to relax enough to orgasm when I'm awake. It'll almost never happen for me from foreplay, for instance, as after a few minutes i start to feel self-conscious of how long it's taking and then that kills all hope of it happening.

I've been thinking about subscribing to OMGYes to see if that offers any tips for awake orgasms. Has anyone here signed up for it?

Just checked it out there and looks like it could be good. Anyone use it before?

How old are you? I only started getting them a few years back in my early 30s. Apparently (according to google!) they are common in women from about age 30-50

I had very occasional ones in my late 20s, but they became much more frequent in my 30s.

Ha! As long as your having them in real life you're soing ok! Spare a thought for us who only get them in our dreams!! :)
