On his 10th power unit and 12th turbo.

Next year the limit before penalties is 3. They have been at this for 4 years, unreliable or slow would be a poor show but unreliable and slow is just a joke.

In order to get them on board Honda must have shown Red Bull something that made them think that they could get their act together by 2019, the only thing I can imagine is that they finally admitted they were unable to do the job and have farmed out the design work to someone more competent.

How about a bag of money, filled with enough to cover all costs for 2018/2019 and the promise to buy the team in 2020?

Could be, supposedly Torro Rosso costs the Red Bull group more to run than the main team after prize money and sponsorship costs.

RedBull is rumored to sell all operations after 2020, here Honda and Aston Martin come in handy.

I was reading a bit about it today.
Next years power unit is going to be the one they are currently using just refined to make more power, be more efficient, reliable etc. That,s what they say anyway.
Its in the latest F1 mag.

Honda have said they have no interest in becoming a works team again so unless something changes in the next few years I can not see that happening.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

As we know "FIAT" is dropped again.

    Who'd bet against Verstappen winning?

Going to be a very close race judging by P2/P3 times. I'm on Daniel at 20s EW.

I guess it's to do with day of the dead thing like last year? Although are they able to change the helmet design more than once during the year

That awkward silence when Horner asked Brundle if Hamilton should have been penalised last year for going off in Mexico at turn 1 was gas!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,681 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

I guess a fair risk of someone sliding off with the circuit being a bit slippy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,681 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

    Perez and Alonso doing well.

Vandorne not keeping up with Alonso

Edit: Alonso having some issue with turbo maybe or maybe not

    That's pretty good from Max
    Track must suit the car

Vettel improved but still not as quick as Verstappen. His lap was miles quicker than the Ferrari and Mercedes

Looks like Torro Rosso were testing out those Honda engines in Quali today ;)
Both drivers out because of engine problems guess they're going to have to get used to that

Good ear from Ben Edwards, same turbo squeak that took out Gasly in FP3.

Was it just my TV or did Eir Sport 1 fall off air for a couple of minutes?

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,929 ✭✭✭kopite386

Max being investigated for impeding Bottas ffs - it's not like it's affects anything, Bottas could have went again rather than going straight to garage ?

Mercs not looking great but maybe the race pace will be more competitive. Stark contrast between teammates at Ferrari, Red Bull and Force India.

Some job from Ocon to get in front of Ricciardo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,681 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Wonder will there be a penalty for Max. I suppose it's quite likely

Missed qualy - what happened Gasly? F1 site says "Q1 107% Time - 1:22.944 Note - Gasly failed to set a time within the Q1 107% requirement, races at stewards' discretion"

    Did he set any time?

No he didn't set a time, engine problem with his car

Wonder are Toro Rosso going to suffer with two new drivers, they've sort of lost any benchmark or somebody who knows how the car should feel

Wow that was some lap from Vettel and Max set a great lap too. Don,t think he deserves a penalty he done no wrong so hoping the stewards do not give him one. Great to see a couple of cars ahead of Hamilton. Hope its a good race tomorrow.

it has to be no penalty . where was he supposed to go. he is as far off line as he can get and still be on the track. he didn't stop bottas from seeing or breaking for the corner and didn't cause him to lock up

    No penalty imho

So what of the revelation from Bernie the FIA does indeed stand for Ferrari International Assistance?

I'm surprised about the lack of impact such a statement has had, I would have thought it's finally confirmed what most people would have thought but been some pretty serious outcomes, but it's been pretty quiet.

Can't wait for tonight's race. I can see there being fireworks between the top 4.

If the Renault engine lasts then I can see Ricciardo causing Hamilton alot of problems.

As long as the 2 boyos up front don't wreck again on the start then it will be a cracker of a race

Is anyone else really enjoying Ocon putting it up to Perez this season? Perez trying to run him off the road a couple of times this season hasn't worked, and I'm enjoying listening to Perez asking the team to let him by Ocon.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,186 ✭✭✭boardsuser1

Listening to Sky yesterday and they made a point of note.

If Hamilton finishes the remaining races, he will be only the second person since 1962 after Michael Schumacher (2002) to finish every race of the season.

The only difference between then and now is Schumacher finished every race on the podium and has a 100% podium finish rate from that year.

You mean the comments made by an old man in his last desperate attempt to be relevant one more time? I'm not sure comments from Bernie classify as any kind of confirmation. As much as I enjoy bashing Ferrari i'm going to assume he was talking crap.

I'm enjoying the battle between them but they have both been over the edge at times and it took the incidents in Spa for the team to finally lay down the law. They should have done it immediately after Baku. And don't forget it was Ocon who caused that one and ruined a chance of a podium for the team.

If Ocon finishes ahead of Perez at the end of the season he really should be up for Driver of the year. Seriously good first full season.
