Salmon - Wild vs Farmed

    Hi all - as currently undergoing treatment for cancer, I've been reading some articles around cancer causing foods. My diet is generally pretty good, and I thought I was doing well by eating fish regularly - mainly salmon and seabass.

    I've just read a number of articles which illustrate that wild salmon is significantly better for us than farmed salmon. However, some brief research seems to indicate that the salmon I buy in the likes of Supervalue or Dunnes is farmed.

    Can anyone recommend the best places to sources "wild" salmon (and other fish)? Noting that I do prefer to buy fish pre-boned and filleted ;).

    Dunnes have wild. Bit like organic chicken. Expensive. But expensive for a reason. Most white fish is wild. Avoid anything farmed and if you do go organic.

    I have only seen wild smoked salmon at dunnes. I think wild salmon is difficult to get, I have seen it very occasionally at fish shops, however only at certain times of year and at an extremely high cost.

    There is a lovely wild alaskan salmon in dunnes lately. It's about €26 a kilo which usually works out at €7-9 for 2 handy cuts. Just about to put some in the oven actually👌
    Its expensive but worth it to avoid the farmed stuff. What goes into farmed fish cannot be good for us 🀔

    They do wild from the fish counter. And not hugely expensive. Only about 20% more than farmed. Beautiful as well. A lot paler than the farmed salmon with their dyed food additives.

    Really? I have often found Wild salmon to be darker in colour, but maybe it depends on the origin.

    Thanks - might give that a try. Though wondering if there might be other issues posed by the fact that it's tinned.... Apparently tinned tomatoes are not advisable, due to the acid in the tomatoes!
