So just saw on the news that Limerick has been added to the Red warning for the upcoming storm Ophelia.

Were there floods in city centre area in the past? Any particular areas that one should avoid tomorrow?

    Everyone keep safe!

Have just heard that a number of city primary schools are closing , as the wind/storm warnings are now red.

They could all be closed as the evening goes on. Even Mary Immaculate College is closing for the day.

Folks take in all your garden furniture and toys.

If you have gates tie them shut or if they are solid consider tieing them in an open position.

Stock up on candles and make sure your phones are fully charged tonight.

Any chance of shopping centres closing tomorrow?

A wet and windy day for the city anyway. It could be different for those in other counties on the coast or maybe those in Foynes or similar westerly shannon areas.

Lots of public services are closed tomorrow, mostly school and community centres. I, along with 1000's of others, will get up and travel to work as normal tomorrow albeit in lighter traffic. :D

    Be grand lads. :D

Met Eireann are advising emergency travel only tomorrow in status red areas. I'd imagine it's going to be a formality as the evening goes on that schools start announcing they are closing.

ESB, roofers and satellite tv repair folks are going to be busy over the next few days I'd say.

UL not closing as of yet. I'm suprised as between all the tree's and river I thought it would be high risk. I certainly don't fancy cycling out there tomorrow!

In my day we could have been in the middle of the apocalypse and john senior would still have made us all come in for chemistry grinds.

That's right. Will charge phones tonight and just stocked up the food for next few days.

Limerick university is closed tomorrow, they have posted on their FB page.

Any flood prone areas in Limerick?

They put in a new flood defense barrier along the queues a few years back. They were upgrading the Island Field recently too so that's usually a high risk flood area.

lol I'm sure that's still the case, my lad is travelling from Clare though so not sure if it's worth the risk!

Any flood prone areas in Limerick?

Seems there will be a tidal surge as well, so hopefully it doesn't flood too much.

He'd have been sweating, tearing off sheets of A4 wiping his brow at a low turnout.

They're redoing the roof in the crescent shopping centre. Hopefully the wind doesn't peel the roof off..

My gaff is in the firing line of potential airborne Crescent renovation debris. Pray for Snotaul folks. Godspeed.

Is the shopping centre not closed?? Looks like everyplace is shut in town today. Stayed out in Rathkeale last night and not a car on the main road this morning.

It's picking up momentum now, stay safe folks. Shame the cresent is open, who would risk going in there today??

I am staying in at home. Expected to hit Limerick by 10 or so.

    Keep safe!

Arthur's Quay and parkway both shut, with Arthur's quay only closing at 9...I imagine tesco in cresent will close now too, and that will lead to the whole cresent shutting i think.

City centre all closed up, banks all shut, penny's and brown Thomas shut.

A friend mentioned that a tree is down on the Dublin road near the junction with the M7, presumably near Finnegan's. Not sure how much of the road is blocked

Not to tempt faith here, but it doesn't seem too bad out there at the moment. Few posts on Twitter also seem to indicate that the path of the storm has shifted slightly and that Connacht will bare the brunt of it now..

Far from over, supposed to peak this afternoon and evening.

The main brunt of the storm is only hitting the South coast now. It'll be another few hours before it hits Limerick.

The strongest winds are the ones following south of the eye of the storm. It could get bad, go calm again for 20-30 minutes, then get much worse.

I was in there around 9:30 (we were sent home from work this morning). Everything is closed except tesco's and I think they were closing soon.

There are bouts of heavy wind gusts every now and then. Currently it's sunny here at the moment. It may change quickly by lunch time.

On other side, emergency services have been deployed in Co. Kerry.

Stay indoors & don't be fooled by the calmness.

It's only just about making landfall in Cork/Kerry now. You can see it on live satellite images. It will be a few more hours before we feel the worst of it.

This was it 10 minutes ago.

Ophelia is 120km wide so this will last well into the afternoon.

Storm surge bringing 3m extra to waves minimum.

Winds will be switching to w & sw in the afternoon with a high risk of flooding.

High tide is after 5pm in the city today.

Hopefully all will be ok and no one gets injured

People in Uber have been allowed leave, but they are being made use their holiday days to do it. Doesn't sound above board to me.
