Digiweb Metro and Router... Help! Please!

    Hi

I have Digiweb metro. Bog standard Thomson cable modem is connected. As most of you know, it is a heap of junk.

In order to boost signal etc, I bought a Google Wifi router. It is constantly dropping the connection. Says its connected to Network but no internet access. I connect a cable directly into the Thomson router and I have internet access.. Driving me insane now.

    Thomson Router:
    IP Address: 192.168.0.1
    DHCP Server: Yes

    Google Wifi:
    Puts everything onto: 192.168.86.X
Worked fine for a few hours
    Now nothing connecting.

Should I be putting the Google Wifi into bridge mode?
Should I be disabling DHCP on Thomson device? Google wifi assigns the IP addresses (192.168.86.x)

I'm so fed up of, as I said, direct connection to thomson is fine, constant long drops via Google Wifi.

Please help. Any help gratefully received.

If I connect a cable from laptop to Thomson I get a connection . I did this to test Thomson when not getting internet connection thru wifi

Thomson to Google Wifi via cable.

Reset everything and just dropped again.

Set Thomson to 192.168.86.1 / DHCP on

Google Wifi 192.168.85.1 - google wifi assigning ips

    Both connected via cable

Made a new SSID plus new password.

All fine then slight drop..now full drop for last 10 mins.

    Head wrecking

You're doing this the wrong way, two DHCP servers by the sounds of it.

    A) Bridge the thompson (awkward to do) to the Google Wifi
    B) Put the Google Wifi into bridge mode (really this is poor naming by Google) to turn it into a dumb wifi point and nothing else - you cannot make a google wifi mesh in this mode

If fixing your wifi was the objective buying a Google Wifi was a bit wasteful.

    Thanks Ed..

My understanding is that putting the Google wifi into bridge mode makes a lot of the features redundant.

I'm currently trying to see if I can find a document to put the Thomson into Bridge mode. I dont need to put both into bridge mode do i?

The range and strength of the signal when it is working is incredibly impressive..

    Just spoke to Digiweb.

Quite stunned by the response.. at no stage did they say it was not supported, they simply said "no here knows anything about that" and wished me all the best.

I've just posted another thread in this forum entitled: "Cheapest Broadband+Home Phone Package in Cork" following inadequate responses from the same company, Digiweb. Customer Care/Support do not seem to be given adequate tools to overcome customer problems & concerns as they arise.

Digiweb seems to be withdrawing a valuable benefit during the process of Upgrading broadband once the LLU Broadband is terminated in an area - The Digiweb Telephone Allowance (DTA) was effectively a vital lifeline provided to OAP customers of Digiweb given in 2014 following abolition of the Telephone Allowance by the government as part of Budget 2014 cuts. Unfortunately, Digiweb is no longer willing to seriously assist this cohort of their customers which they so publicly embraced in late 2013 to gain market share at the time. Now they are all quiet on the subject as no public announcements regarding the removal of this benefit for OAP Digiweb customers.

My experience of Digiweb as a company was that I once held it in very high regard for offering such a social benefit to vulnerable OAP customers - Just disappointed in the manner they have quietly removed same and have unrealistic options for this cohort of customers. Offering discounts/goodwill gestures that amount to +150.00 per year is almost meaningless as the bottom line is it is a massive increase for OAP customers at little or no notice.

You might be able to use the SNMP method documented here for Virgin Media routers to bridge the Thomson. It's a standard SNMP command so I can't see why it wouldn't work.

At your own risk, of course, but a hard reset should bring it back as it was.

Dunno why I didnt think of this before, how is the metro product authenticated? A simple MAC Clone on the WAN to the radio might be all you need to drop the Thompson (the idea scenario).

    Hi lads,

I got some instructions to put the router into Modem only mode.

This was done by going into the settings --> switch mode --> disable

I did this at about 6.30pm and it was rock solid all night and this morning. I can no longer access the admin page 192.168.0.1 (a reset will be required) but I'm hoping this is the solution. So far so good? It seems to be working incredibly well.

I have probably jinxed it now...

Nice one. Try http://192.168.100.1 for the admin page if you need it.
