Have a 2009 1.6 tdci focus style on done deal. 126k miles. Nice alloys. Mint condition. It's up 2 weeks now and havnt received 1 call about it. Need to sell this car urgently. Any idea why no interest? It's the cheapest 2009 focus with similar miles on donedeal. 4999. Would nearly take 4 for it

4,999? Why not add the extra euro and make it an even 5k.

People may search for cars less than 5k. Might change it to 4500. Don't want it to look too cheap though as people will think something wrong with it

    Can you link it?

In reality 08 and 09 are more or less worth the same , with a step up in values to 2010

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,130 ✭✭✭✭elperello

If you are really prepared to take 4k list it at 4.5k.

Well I can see a car in the distance alright.

I'd put the original wheels back on and redo the pictures with them. I'd sell your aftermarket wheels separately. I'd add pictures of the interior as well + pictures of NCT reports and the pile of bills you have for it.

Photos are ****e, sorry and they are tiny like they have been cropped.
All sides of car, each alloy, interior pics.
Pic of NCT sheet, servicing sheet, etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,464 ✭✭✭Ultimate Seduction

Another 11 Euro to do the add though, or 5 to bump. Will I be throwing money away when I havnt received a single call or text? Even tried those "we buy any car" websites and got no reply..

Any other car I ever sold was gone in a few days

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,464 ✭✭✭Ultimate Seduction

Don't know why pics are so small. They are normal sized pics before I uploaded. Cheers for the advice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭ezra_

Awful photos - put up some of the interiors, of the NCT/tax, etc.

I skip ads that don't have interior photos, as there must be something wrong

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,464 ✭✭✭Ultimate Seduction

Ok thanks. I will get better photos, and more of them up asap

Is your car showing up on Cartell etc as being crashed or mileage discrepancy?
If I was taking 4k for it I'd have it up for €4,250 to engage a buyer, as other people have mentioned take better pictures.

OP it seems second hand car market for such cars is pretty much dead.
I'm trying to sell 09 civic diesel, had it advertised for a week now and nothing. No interest whatsoever.
My is also among the cheapest from similar age, mileage.

Depends on the car and ad.
I sold my E60 523i in 3 days for what was realistic price for car of that age, tax bracket.
Put effort into ad with good photos and description.

I always buy my cars without looking inside. Can't see a problem here.

I personally doubt ad makes much difference.
In the end most people are looking for a good car - not a good ad.
Someone might have a great car for sale but be poor in designing ads, writing description or taking photos. I'd think most people would realise it.

Anyway I tried to do the best ad i can purely for that small percentage of people who do judge a car by the ad. Still no phonecalls.

Btw- what is the realistic price for 523i and what year was it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,373 ✭✭✭ongarite

    07 523i asking 3200

I doubt that - when I am buying, I know what I'm looking for in a car and if the ad doesn't show me that (either through a bad description or no photos) then I'm not going to bother contacting the person and I'll move to the ad does that.

research on how people buy cars shows they spend a huge amount of time (proportionally, when compared to the price, many times more than when buying a house) researching and trawling ads, so if you don't put the effort into making a good ad, you move yourself down the ranks.

Ad is poor OP. Pics are too small. No details on what trim level, engine, output, equipment or history it has. There are plenty of small diesel hatches about for sale and yours doesn't stand out at all.

Put a bit more effort in and it'll sell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 608 ✭✭✭chocksaway

need pictures of all sides of the car. looks like you are hiding the passenger side
pics of the inside also needed

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 422 ✭✭qhe0i9zvfgdou8

I don't know if it's the reason you haven't got calls but the photos are pretty bad. Looks like you took them with the phone on its side at least that's what happens to photos if I use my phone like that.
You need better photos and more of them and a more detailed description.

All that information is on the ad!! It goes up automatically when you put in the reg.

Going by the replies, the ad isn't too bad, I just need better pics of all the car, inside and out, and some of the paperwork?

As others have said: pictures of the interior and all sides of the car.

If an ad doesn't have at least on picture of front, back, drivers side, passenger side and interior then I'm moving on. Nothing worse than going to see a car and one side is caved in or the interior is in bad shape.

If you'd take 4, put it up for 4.2.

Don't bother with any we buy any car merchants. Most of them are the type of people you don't want to know.

I'd take the aftermarket alloys off it and stick back on the originals to make it look more genuine, although you may like the alloys most people don't

Aside from that I'd sit and wait, a lot of cars sit on forecourts for months. Its well priced as is and a buyer will always try to knock more money off

As i said, need URGENT sale. Desperate times, desperate measures.

Good to see the views went from 100 to over 400 since I put up this thread.

Going to take off the wheels an just put up a new add tomorrow

as all ready stated the pictures are a joke. look you drove half the car into the grass. that's a huge warning sign for me as to the mind set of the owner.
Clean pictures inside and outside the car in a neutral background. clean the car. wax and polish it. forget about the alloy wheels. Another warning bell goes off in my head when i see any mention of aftermarket wheels.
Also no harm to see pic of clean enginebay

heres just a random add i found on donedeal
will give you an idea of how to take pics of a car
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/skoda-rapid-rapid-limo-amb-1-6tdi-90hp-4dr/16584635?campaign=3

    neutral background.
pics of front, side, back of car
    a few different interior pics.

I agree with the earlier comments re the alloys.
To me - rightly or wrongly: flash alloys = boy racer.

Also I'm sure some boy racer would love to buy those alloys from you in a separate deal.

    Nice alloys. Mint condition.
"Mint condition" from 2009, all photos far away, none from the inside = the car is fcuked, and the inside is probably in bits.

Also, shag all details. Does it have a radio, CD player, anything? You want people to be interested, and not just ignore and move onto the next one.

Oh, and maybe omit the "Partial service history" - it's not really a selling point.

OP, the photos give impression that you're trying to hide the condition of the car. Is there a strict limitation to image size? 600x330 was good enough 10 years ago with the first nokia phones with cameras. Get the car into a nice area to get good background - we buy with th eyes, not with the brain (unfortunately).

Photos are poor and put the original wheels back on the car. Rightly or wrongly aftermarket wheels often give the impression of a boy racer.

I sold it with 2 years nct and 12 months tax.

Was delighted to get rid of it.

I got €4000 on the trade in.
