Brenda Powers>>you insulting nasty woman, I won't go into detail but if any of you seen the program you'll know what I'm commenting about. i just thought WOW WOW what is up with her, she wasn't just telling people that she hated tattoo's(which would be fair enough), she was deliberately and aggressively and quite nastily and in a personal way trying(like a psycho butt hurt woman)trying to hurt and demean people who have tattoo's. Well that's it basically. Where is all that hate coming from? btw I thought BAZ(The tattoo artist)was a complete gent and handled the situation very well and in no way lowered himself to that nasty 'lady'.

She was suggesting, in her own way, that folk who signed up to the tattoo fad of the last few years will be noticed for life, now that it's no longer that cool to be getting them in places that can't be covered up by clothes.

I know what she was suggesting and I know and understand that some people don't like tattoo's etc etc.. Her appearance her demeanor her nastiness.. It just didn't sit well with me!?

I won’t be sleeping tonight, let me tell you. I’ll be crafting the most strongly- worded of missives to send, post hast to... where now?

Actually. On second thoughts. No. Don’t care. Couldn’t give the even tiniest little shyte.

Just wondering why do more and more people think that plurals should have apostrophe's in them? (See what I did there?)

Ah I'm kind of used to Brendas hateful rhetoric now

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Scene? What does that mean?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,439 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

A scene is generally thought of as the action in a single location and continuous time, but thats not important right now(maybe I've been watching too much airplane lately!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,434 ✭✭✭✭Ash.J.Williams

I saw brenda last night as an easy target to tear strips off. If you're going to put your hand up to speak on tv from the audience at least have something to say instead of "coool mannnnn" it sickened me that they gave her an opportunity to sneer. By the way did you see her sneer?... Ugh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,644 ✭✭✭cml387

You may pluralise a noun by adding an 's if the noun ends in a vowel.

So the OP is correct (grammarwise).

    As for tattoo's, hate 'em.

This is 100% incorrect. Apostrophes are used to denote possession or for contractions (I don't, it's etc)

If a word ends in a vowel, it doesn't matter. You just add an "s" for words like taxis, tatoos etc.
Rule 2b. Do not use an apostrophe + s to make a regular noun plural.

    Incorrect: Apostrophe's are confusing.
    Correct: Apostrophes are confusing.

Incorrect: We've had many happy Christmas's.
Correct: We've had many happy Christmases.

I think you're thinking of single letters.

'Sarah got seven A's in her Leaving Cert' is considered correct in some style guides (in fact, I would assume all style guides agree on that one).

If you're going to look different, you'll need a thicker skin so the apoplectic old baggages won't get to you so much.

Whilst I don't think she articulated it very well and was rude to that poor Baz fella, BP raised some interesting points but I'd have liked it to be more questions to people who had tattoos than the statements of "fact" they were presented at. I think it's a fascinating topic to really understand what it is that makes people want to so permanently transform themselves.

I don't suppose you've got any visible piercings or tattoos?

@JM Nolan, I am going by the OP's description, I am not acquainted with Brenda and was giving general advice.
