I was at gym in blanchardstown previously, and paid the joining fee and normal fee, went for 3 months, then I cancelled, as I was going abroad

Now Im back, and want to rejoin, and Im not sure but do i have to pay joining fee all over again(makes it 55 euro for first month, ripoff). On their site when you pay, theirs no option for returning member, so I think ill have pay joining fee again, looks like it.

What even is this joining fee rubbish

A joining fee stops people from just paying a couple of months and then cancelling their membership.

Ive been to other countries, and they never had joining fee, proper scam imo, so basically they want people to buy yearly memberships, or pay long term to avoid having pay joining fee repeatedly.

Do you have to use Ben Dunne? Plenty of other low cost options around.

But how much do you pay for gym membership in other counties? I pay €21 a month for Ben Dunne in Cherrywood with no contract. I cant believe how good value it is TBH. It is a big modern building and the gym is huge with free classes too. I have thought to myself when I joined how does it make money with those prices.

All the people who sign up on January 1st and never go :D

Flyefit is 27 euro a month with no joining fee and you can pick and choose month by month with no commitment. It's a very respectful way to do it. Mandatory contract durations feel quite scummy by comparison.

Its 30 euro per month at blanchardstown, and joining fee is 25 euro. Does anyone know any good and cheaper options around Clonee, and Blanch area. I like the one in Blanch has squat and deadlifting rom seperate , which I use a good bit

True my sister is a member there too and goes maybe once a month. Well he is making not much from me. I go about 5 times a week and always have my shower there after. I recon the money I save from not having to turn on the immersion at home those days must be not far of me getting my gym for free :)

That is good of Flyfit about no joining fee. I think Ben Dunne is like the Ryanair of gyms. It is the cheapest but catch you with hidden costs. If you lose your card they charge €10 to replace it. I am actually suprised they have free water fountains in the gym. But you would just have to be a member for 3 months before your joining fee is paid for compared with Flyfit. I think Flyfit has much better opening hours than Ben Dunne too but my local Flyfit in Dun Laoghaire would not have as good equipment in it from what I saw.

They are just different business models, and once the company is up front and transparent about it (and most are to be fair because they have to be for legal reasons, though I am sure there are times when underhand sales tactics are used with promises of "you can cancel anytime" when you are in reality tied in to a contract) I would not call it "scummy" in my opinion. A lot of products and services are subject to 12 month contracts, broadband, electricity, TV etc.

If you've cancelled your membership previously, I'd imagine you'd have to pay again.

After paying, you could contact member services to see if you're entitled to a refund.
