White has been criticised plenty in the past for running into traffic & getting turned over

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,536 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

This Is a missunderstanding by many that eliminating back passing or hand passing will refuse the negativity in the game.

The problem in the modern game is more deep rooted. The tactic of getting virtually everyone back when you lose possession this clogs up the space inside the 45M line. Add to this the persistence fouling or holding up of a player who is trying to counterattack. Not sure will 4 point for a goal solve it either.

YYou really need to remove 6+ players from inside the 45 attackers and defenders. Outlawing the backpass to the goalie isn't going to solve the congestion around the scoring area.

Murphy's man was constantly getting 4-5 yards on him. Murphy has neither speed or physical presence. Personally I think he is the weakest link at present.

Moynihan dose a lot of work. However we lack a significant amount of physical presence in the middle third of the team. Brosnan is not great either his decision making is poor.

Banning passing back to the keeper would encourage teams to press from the front. High risk, high reward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭50HX

Banning back pass to the keeper would help but I feel easily gotten around by passing forward to the keeper.

The sweeper is the biggest issue imo

    How to address this idk

anybody know the story in relation to tickets for Saturday evening? I’m hoping to go with the kids, upper Cusack in the corner is all that is available on Ticketmaster

Give it a few days, Ticketmaster are just trying to flog the shite seats first. I’d expect the upper Hogan to be released in the next couple of days

Cant get juvenile tickets in the hogan. I was hoping the cusack ones would be available by now. I only started looking Monday maybe they are gone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

ticket selection still abominable for anyone looking to bring juveniles, surely the cusack can’t be sold out?

We got nice tickets in 732 of the Hogan earlier. Great view of everything up there.

I'd imagine Cusack is full of season tickets and club tickets in the lower tiers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

No issue getting good hogan tickets but the €10 juvenile tickets aren’t available there, if it was one child I’d nearly pay full price but I have three to bring

May have to just settle for upper Davin. For previous semis I always waited and good Cusack tickets came available on Wednesday/ Thursday but given the game is tomorrow I’m guessing what is on sale now is what is available

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭dobman88

Apologies. Didn't realise it was kids tickets. Yeah, upper davin seems only ones available unfortunately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,070 ✭✭✭Charles Babbage

The upper Davin is not the worst, and 714 at the bend between Davin and the Cusack is pretty decent if you are near the front.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

It will do but would much prefer the Cusack obviously

Left it too late it seems

The spark is really gone out of football, theres little or no talk about this game, not just here but anywhere really. Wonder if a big crowd will head up? Its quite the journey for what could prove to be a defensive 70 mins
Ive had to travel to Dublin alot in the last few weeks, couldnt face into the journey again and if we're lucky enough to reach the final then il watch from the comfort of my sitting room.
On saying all that, best of luck to Jack and the lads today and safe travels to those making the trip

I expect a fairly small crowd from Kerry by comparison to Armagh. The spark has indeed gone out of football. It has become fairly hard to watch with so many games being fairly shite overall. Zero excitment for the most part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

I think with Dublin winning so much and the defensive style of play, that interest has dropped off a lot.

I think in the 90s 8 different teams won and there was real excitement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭50HX

And too many meaningless games, round Robin nonsense, compact championship....over in July

There is constant overlap in sports now, rugby season doesn't finish officially until today, euro final followed by Olympic games followed by premiership again late August

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

I think it's because so many counties have nothing to hope for.

Leinster has a big population but no county can compete with Dublin.

At least in Munster counties have hurling.

In Ulster most counties are competitive.

Hoping Kerry win today by any means necessary tbh. Been boring to watch so far but they've been winning. And hopefully that shows the experience of running the ball into full contact like we did against Tyrone in 2021 doesn't work.

Another solid defensive display like the Derry game while keeping the points ticking will do me.

Should also put to bed the narrative that the northern teams still have Kerrys number despite beating Tyrone and Derry en route to the final last year and Derry again this year and hopefully Armagh today.

Great day here today so if both teams try to play summer football, it could be a good game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

I think if we stop Armagh scoring a goal, I think we'll win by a few points.

Armagh are very dangerous on the break and if they score a goal in the final quarter when the game opens up it could be hard to Kerry to respond.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,806 ✭✭✭An Ciarraioch

Can't have any complaints about the result, but the biggest concern would be our fitness levels - we seemed to be dead on our feet with ten minutes left in normal time, and in truth the final margin flattered us. The shot selection in extra time proved decisive, so overall, much food for thought this winter.

fair play to armagh I think myself we have had henough of jack oconnor at this stage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,671 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Should easily have been 7 or 8 points up in the second half. It was awful watching it unfold

This gors back to the league match against Derry. Jack made wrong decisions that night and has continued all year long. He has carried passengers all year long and carried them today

Very flat from the 2022 champions, armagh full value

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭dobman88

Beaten by the better team throughout. This kerry team have been over hyped since 2019. Where we go from here I've no idea

the desire just isnt there with our lads… happy enough with their lot it seems… couple all ireland minor medals and a senior from 2 yrs ago… they look like they dont want to win anymore…

Kerry and Jack O Connor keep repeating the same mistakes and end up with the same result. Very nieve and when Kerry were on top we did not press the advantage home. We need to look at the type of players we are picking. We seem to pick the same type of players in our defence White, O Beaglaoich, Murphy, Tom O Sullivan all very similar. There isn't enough focus on the clubs that aren't producing county players and why aren't they? There are large parts of North Kerry and South Kerry with no players. Biggish clubs like Desmonds, Ballymac, St Mary's, Listowel, Laune Rangers not represented. A lot of food for thought.

Hopefully Cillian Burke is around in future, was good when he came on bar one wide.

There’s a few I hope hang up their boots now, one in particular in mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,536 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

There is more than one. We need a complete restructure. Geany, Murphy, Morley are all gone in that order. We need a few bite and bollax players.

Your first one was my one in particular.

Thought Murphy did ok today but yeah he has shown the effects of mileage on a few occasions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

Very disappointing but absolutely no complaints and the best team is in the final

It was very noticeable that our legs were gone down the stretch while Armagh were flying

The slow build up game-plan worked against Derry but it doesn’t help to get our best players on the ball, they didn’t try to break quickly and get fast ball in at any stage

The Goal was obviously the turning point and it gave Armagh huge belief, they duly kicked on and played all the football after that.

Definitely a few retirements coming up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,097 ✭✭✭cute geoge

The reality is ,it is an average team and really depends if David Clifford performs. He did not show up today and was one of the poorest players on the field bar the massive point he scored from the sideline ,it was a harmless display by him ,imo he is overhyped

DC, maybe Foley st FB,but none of the rest

    tough year for the GOAT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭Forge83

Frustrating result as we had the game well under control in the first 45/50 mins. The reality is 3 mistakes from Ryan combined with a few soft frees from Gough left Armagh back into the game. After that Armagh took over and drove on to a deserved win.

Paul Geaney was once again terrible. He was a mistake machine. Jacks first mistake was starting him and his second was not taking him off at half time.He has choked in every big game for 5/6 years now and will go down as the most over rated Kerry player of all time. Hopefully it will be the last we see of him.

We have too many players who are not good enough at this level. Joe O Connor, Barry Dan, Sean O Brien and even Killian Spillane who has zero consistency. The reality is none of them are really good enough. Barry Dan and O Brien are just too slow for inter county.

Game started with loads of kick passing. Dara Moynihan kicked a few fantastic passes. We went up by 3 points and they just stopped and reverted back to this stupid ponderous games. Why didn’t they just keep going the way they started. So frustrating.

On the positive. Mike Breen was excellent when he came on.I’d have had him or Killian Burke at midfield all day ahead of Joe O Connor. Killian Burke and Dylan Geaney will be serious players next year.

Shout out to Paul Murphy who I’ve slated many a time. He’s had a great year and played well today.

P Geaney and Stephen O Brien will both surely retire. Morley and Paul Murphy should have another year in them but maybe as squad players. Jack will surely move on and we will see either Fitzmaurice back or Tomas O Se take on the job. Kieran Donaghy maybe even 💪

Lastly on David Clifford. Below his usual best but playing in a style that doesn’t bring out the best in him. That combined with a lot of change in his life in the last 12-18 months, I think he should be cut some slack. I’d back him to be back to his best next year. Form is temporary but class is permanent.

You probably right, always loved the Armagh crowd they loved there football I remember 2002 one of the best nights I had in Dublin even though we lost I always felt that was a good day for football, probably a good day for football now with Dublin and Kerry gone, and there will be an extra pep in there step tomorrow, our day will come again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭Piskin

S Ryan, Tom o' Sullivan, Seanie o' Shea, D o' Connor & Dara Moynihan need to be dropped from the panel before any progress can be made. D Clifford needs to learn how to play the game at senior level as his skill's alone is not cutting it, his positional sense and running to make space is poor for his experience. Draft C Burke into midfield alongside Joe o' Connor as he has a great football brain and is strong fast & aggressive. D Casey was good when he came on and should have been on instead of Tom 0' Sullivan. P Murphy played his heart out but is now surely retiring. P Geaney should not have been on that panel never mind the pitch, has not been the same player since 2017. S Ryan I don't feel sorry for as he was always prone to brain farts like today, never worked to fix that part of his game unlike Cluxton to did!! C Burke, D Casey, D Geaney need to be regulars next year. T Brosnan as well. New management with fresh idea's and better coaching as way too many costly mistakes occurring again & again.

I would pick most of those forwards back then instead of D Clifford, they had a better overall game in them, could read the game and stood up when it mattered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭Piskin

I got kicked off forums in the past for saying the same!! He is overrated and his overall game is very average, has good skills but you need more than that. Seanie o' Shea is another, 8 years playing senior football ffs. We have too many glorified minors who never stepped up to senior level at least not to it's highest level. At least 5 players on that panel need to be dropped next year as they have proved over and over that they can't cut it at the highest level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭Piskin

He did himself proud today, was his biggest critic the last few years but he was immense today and showed leadership when so called better & more talented players did not. Kudos to that man!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭Piskin

Dara Moynihan, D o' Connor & S Ryan need to be gone as well. Blood a new management & new players for 2 years to freshen things up. We have too many players who know how to lose games we should win.

yep… One of our better performers throughout the year and died with his boots on today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

He was quiet but it has to be said the style of play is a complete disaster for Clifford. By the time the ball is worked up the opponent has 15 behind the ball and DC is bottled up.

He is at his best getting early ball in where he can claim the mark or just get the ball in a bit of space. He is almost unplayable if you get the right ball in to him. We haven’t been all year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,059 ✭✭✭Officer999

A lot of over analysis here by armchair pundits but if Shane Ryan comes out and claims that high ball instead of fumbling it then Kerry are in an Ireland final.

Hard to begrudge Armagh fans tho, 3 penalty defeats is heartbreaking and they deserve to go to an Ireland final.
