Do settled married people talk to each other like that on the blower?

    Good opening.

I wouldn't have thought the guards pop round to advise of the husband's death by themselves. Surely they come in pairs?

And she asks right away is there a housekeeper? It's a nice house but a housekeeper?

Driveway looks familiar, is it Nidge's house from love hate? Good idea getting a security gate in front of the drive

Some of the dialogue is terrible.

Keep expecting Apres Match head of security guy to go "we'll leave it there so. Okie Doke".

Risteard Cooper will always be Apres Match to me. I'm half expecting him to do a Johnny Giles impression.

It's fine. I suppose Angeline Ball should be still singing Mustang Sally.

episode 1, Not doing it for me I'm afraid.......😏

This reminds me of that Amy Huberman junk from last year. It’s set in Ireland but really it could be anywhere. Bland colourless characters that could be copy/pasted into any show.

    Rubbish imo.

American, I presume you mean US. It obviously caters to its Canadian viewers.

So people find ITV Dectective dramas believable and authentic ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

why are irish actors and actressses so poor? seriously though you'd see better acting in emmerdale than this

are our drama schools not up to scratch or something?

In the main, British detective dramas tend to be well written and well acted.

its very common these days...I think there is a view that it improves chances of cashing in by being sold abroad or remade elsewhere

    Well it is a co-production.
A lot of good dramas go local. as local can be universal in human terms and appeal. Yes, would prefer a good Irish stamp on it.

The writer (Ron Hutchinson) has won an Emmy for his writing and was nominated for 3 others.

Was he having an off day with this or is the acting/delivery just awful? :o

    (I haven't watched yet, so I don't know)

A lot of the dialogue seems very stilted, as if the actors have been reminded to speak every single syllable of every single word, no ad-libbing accepted! It makes it all seem a bit unnatural and forced.

Caught up with this on the player last night.... hard to give it more than pass marks to be honest. I thought the acting in general was dreadful, with Angeline Ball being the best of them to be honest. The others - Risteard Cooper, the lady who plays the sister and the guy who is the MD of the company as well as the main character were all very poor I thought. The script is cringey in parts too, the TD's involvement in particular.

Not sure I'll bother watching any more to be honest.

I think they're trying to be more Scandinavian than US with the stilted dialogue delivery. It falls flat because of it, I'd guess it's the direction rather than what's written or the actors (couple of dud lines apart).

Not very good but I'll watch it because I've loved Elaine Cassidy since Runt in Disco Pigs. I'd watch her in anything. (though that does make me sound a bit stalker-y)

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I wouldn't worry about it. My own girlfriend* suspects that I'm a stalker ffs :)

    Excuse my faux pas :p
I just felt like it was trying to be John Grisham with all the supposed conspiracy theories..and imo it doesn't work with the Irish setting.
The TD character wearing the face off the HR woman was vomit inducing. He was trying way too hard to be sleazy/creepy.
