    648 is about 15 seconds behind 1368.

  • Registered Users Posts: 594 ✭✭✭Oscarziggy

648khz is on the reserve transmitter and aerial so now at 2kw due to a problem with the main transmitter.

There was a technical glitch at 11am Saturday morning on 1368khz when the Manx News was being broadcast at the same time as Johnny Lewis ! Neither won the battle as the 2 audios were at the same level.

I have Manx Radio on 1368kh tuned in on my car radio, so that when I switch from FM to AM (if not there already), I will be straight into Radio Caroline North and won't forget this time! The reception is variable around my neck of the woods, but, depending on where I am, I can pick it up reasonably well. I could, of course, listen to it online on my phone!

Sadly Nigel Harris will not be on the Ross Revenge this week end. 1368khz is great here in South West Wales.

When I heard RTE playing the Fortunes and Caroline earlier today (12.55) I thought maybe they knew the relevance and would reference Radio Carolines 60 th birthday this Easter weekend (and Easter falls the same weekend as it did in 1964).

Those magical months when Caroline North was heard across the East Coast bringing pop music to these Isles for the first time.

Caroline effectively shaped Irish Broadcasting it's DJS Robbie Robinson and Chris Cary starting the super stations Sunshine and later Nova

Great laugh to hear Tony Blackburn gatecrash into BBC2's breakfast show to blag Carolines birthday celebrations.

Absolutely agreed about Caroline's influence on Irish Radio. I have a two waves of influence theory.... firstly Irish people who listened to Caroline set up the early Irish pirate stations in the late 60's and 70's (wave 1) and then, after the Mi Amigo sank in 1980, Robbie and Chris arrived here, bringing with them some of the best offshore DJ's of the time (wave 2).

Sunshine at the very beginning sounded like Radio Caroline had relocated to portmarnock. Then Robbie and Chris lifted the standards of radio presentation to new heights that Irish listeners didn't know existed.

We owe a lot to Caroline and the people who worked for it, over many years.

BBC R2 are doing a Battle of the DJs type show tomorrow (Good Friday) @ 12pm. Johnnie Walker and Tony Blackburn presenting. I think it might be a quiz. No real idea what’s happening but it’s to celebrate the Caroline 60th anniversary and celebrate pirates in general. Just posting it here. Don’t bland me if it’s not good!

EDIT: They just mentioned it’s on BBC Sounds already. The show sounds like it includes the BBC jocks with pirate roots so many more than Tony & Johnnie.

Tony was on "Tracks of my years" mid mornings with Vernon Kay this week.

True that they are the only 60s pirate radio jocks currently on BBC Radio 2. I am not sure how many are left on the BBC, but a good few are on web based radio stations no doubt.

Boom Radio are doing a great job of commemorating Caroline with special programmes incl. Rosko tonight and Your thinner record Spinner Roger Twiggy Day who has just done a two hour live broadcast from on board The (recently fire damaged) LV18 at Harwich - which was the ship used as "Sunshine Radio" in some scenes of The Boat That Rocked. Nicky Horne on air now paying tribute to Ronan.

Radio Caroline on 648 kh am was being relayed this evening in Dublin on 1206 kh am, given the day that's in it.

Does anyone know where Ronan was buried?

Would love to visit one of the days and leave flowers to show my respect.

It would be best to call the PP or Parochial House in Greenore / Carlingford or that area. His funeral was not attended by anyone and was a most heartbreaking watch online - I was viewing from the states at that time.

I remember turning round at Chris Cary's funeral and in the row behind (quietly, down the back) there stood Ronan.

    Rather a surreal moment.

I heard the Radio Caroline North/Manx Radio AM broadcast being relayed on 105.2 FM in south Dublin a short while ago.

Incidentally, what Radio Garden describes as Radio Caroline 648am is broadcasting Radio Caroline's album station. Steve Dack is on at the moment and will be followed by Nigel Harris. I remember finding this discrepancy before. I checked Radio Caroline's website and that is one of the online options. I think the Radio Garden option continues with the online album station.

Now listening to Ray Clark on Radio Caroline North courtesy of Radio Garden's option for Manx Radio AM! It is also available as the Radio Caroline North option on Radio Caroline's website!

Caught about half of the BBC R2 show with Tony Blackburn & Johnnie Walker. Lovely show with both guys reminiscing about their time on Caroline and BBC.

I really enjoyed both doing chart rundowns from a particular year. It was fantastic hearing both go from shooting tge breeze to “on air” so effortlessly and professionally.

I really hope some of todays lineup would be made listen to shows like this.

It was a great listen from thr start, with the first hour more aimed at the pirate days. the second hour was mostly their music choices of the 60s as well as the 70s

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,992 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

Later this afternoon, it was also being relayed on 1206 kh AM. A much better signal than 105.2 FM.
