F1 is back, for the 10 year anniversary of the Singapore race. A fine night race in extreme heat with challenging cars.

Ferrari had to be sandbagging, they were arsing around with the soft tyre as well, trying to throw people off in the strategy.

First two seasons were ok. Red Bull looking very competitive Verstappen having some nice sliding around but not touching the wall close do. Palmer did touch it do. Lewis made a few small mistakes and got very close to the wall. Alonso moaning again but he was in 7th at the end of Q2 so not too bad. I think a Riccardo win would be great but I also want to see the Ferrari's do well.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Good job Channel 4 are live this weekend. Massive fail from EirSport. Had the session set to record in the back room. EirSport pick up FP1 with 5 minutes left in the session and then only the last 30 minutes of FP2. Had this been an exclusive I'd be raging.

    This too shall pass.

In the press conference the Honda chief was asked what would promote more involvement in F1 from Japanese manufacturers. His answer was that in Japan, unlike national series, F1 is only broadcast on satellite pay TV and it needs to be available to a wider audience.

Someone didn't get the FOM memo to not criticise the pay tv business model.

Vettel hit the wall too on a fast run i think. Definitely sandbagging there. Really want to see Ricciardo win. Get him a title winning car soon!

Track is kinda crap though isn't it. Japanese viewers may have switched off for numerous reasons in recent years.

Poor results for Williams and decent show from Hulk. Maybe the Renault will be suited to this track. I find it very difficult to judge how good the Renault car is. It seems to have improved over the year.

Vettel nailed his lap, the Red Bulls looked immense, so much so I thought Verstappen would sneak it. What's the bets Max has an engine / gearbox issue in the race?

I was thinking earlier that the Merc cars are longer than others and a while ago DC said that was the case.
That means it not be as good going around sharp bends.

I remember once Vettel Walked from the back of a Merc to the front trying to measure it.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Hamilton spoke about trying to get a good start and maybe getting by Kimi. I think he needs to be more wary of Alonso and Hulk getting flyers off the line. Alonso especially has had some cracking starts this year.

    I hope Ricc wins

Alonso has had fliers in the past but recently he's been at the back with the runts of the litter. So you'd expect him to get the best of them in the first fewer corners.

Though his Ferrari days also had good starts. So it will be interesting to see how he does tomorrow.

Its not there cars thats longer its there wheelbase that is longer than the Ferrari's and all the other cars. There wheelbase been longer makes a big difference on a tight track like this. The cars are all the same length.

Here is a very good video on it.

Instant start behind the safety car but I think they've tweaked the rules to say that they will do a grid lights start after the safety car.

    This too shall pass.

Regardless of the rain let them do a standing start as normal.

A safety car start is annoying and takes the unpredictability out of the race start.

Carnage in the midfield and the 2 Mercedes taking each other out (again) :P

Think they changed the rules for this year, didnt they?

You might get a few laps behind the safety car but then they will line up on grid for a proper start.

Would be super to get a shower half way through the race.

They were supposed to be changed, not sure if it was passed by the FIA though.

We need proper starts in all weathers.

I mean come on, who here says Belgium 1998 for example wasn't a classic due to the weather causing havoc?

Did Mark Webber just touch Ricciardo's helmet without him knowing? What a way to jinx the man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

It's not wet enough for a safety car start. C4 making the point the teams will be trying to decide whether to start on inters or slicks
