So snow patrol looking likely if a stand alone show isn't announced soon ? Arctic monkeys also very likely?

That is exactly what we need!

The Snow Patrol/Lorde/Kasabian triumvirate of doom is still a real possibility.

Kasabian in Belfast 20th of august and no gig announcement down south so def a possibility there alright

They would be all decent headliners, bit mainstream fair enough but still would take any over Sam Smith or Lana Del Ray. Snow patrols popularity can't be denied in Ireland, they might be a bit bland for my tastes but always put on a great show whenever I saw them. Im only familiar with Lorde's main songs but the girl has done wonders for pop music and I a lot better than the rubbish churned out every week. No idea what she would be like live however. Kasabain still going strong and will have plenty of anthem type tunes in their back catalog to keep them going for many more years. Haven't heard a whole pile of them since West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, what an album all the same and guranteed to put on a great show.

Is Lorde so bad? I've been impressed with what I've heard from her and she also seemed to put on a formidable performance at Glasto. She's definitely a step up from Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding & Ed Sheeran who've had slots in the past few years.

I didn’t mind Sam Smith being there, because I was able to go see Chvrches while he moaned about his love life, and then wander back for Blur! 2015 was brilliant

He never did headline, or was I too wasted to notice? I remember him in one of the tents a few years back and he was not great tbh.

I can't see Lorde as a late night headliner ... surely not?

    Snow Patrol/Bjork/Kendrick Lamar

If that pops up I may as well sell my ticket*

(*All pure lies but I might moan about it for a while)

I think I've barely ever been to any of the headliners on main stage in my 5 EPs so it's never really an issue, someone I like headlining is pretty much a bonus but way prefer the tents.

Riptide movement were great last year. I wonder if they’d did two in a row?
I see bicep are doing a ‘live’ show as opposed to a DJ set at a couple of festivals also.
Would happily watch them again too....

Acts touring around July at Rock Werchter.

I was harsh on Lorde. She has a couple decent tunes. The other two are absolute roasters...

I think Lorde could definitely pop up, we've had London Grammar, Florence and the Machine & Lana Del Rey in the last couple of years, I think Lorde would fit that slot quite well.

I also think Kendrick Lamar will appear as one of this years headliners, he is doing a good few other European festivals in August and I'd say EP will have tried hard to get him.

Who else is in contention? From what I can see, these are some/most of the acts who are playing other festivals in Europe this summer who would be big enough to headline EP:
    Bjork
    Arctic Monkeys
    Arcade Fire
    Depeche Mode
    The Killers
    The Chemical Brothers
    Queens of The Stone Age
    Kasabian
    The Prodigy
    NERD
    Massive Attack
    Stereophonics
    Snow Patrol

The killers would be my preference there, but I imagine they are more likely to do Longitude as they are headlining Benacassim

    To elaborate a bit more..

Bjork - playing festivals in Europe all summer, one in Portugal in August.
Arctic Monkeys - likewise touring festivals all summer including 3 in August
Arcade Fire - I would say unlikely as they are playing Dublin in April?
Depeche Mode - the dream.. but last European date is July.
The Killers - look to be touring Europe early summer, back in USA for late July
The Chemical Brothers - too soon to play again after 2016??
Queens of The Stone Age - nothing past mid July.
Kasabian - Playing Belfast 10 days before EP.
The Prodigy - two European festivals in August.
NERD - playing France week before EP.
Kendrick Lamar - numerous European fests in August.
Lorde - can't see anything past June yet?
Massive Attack - nothing past July yet.
Stereophonics - nothing past July, playing Dublin in March.
Snow Patrol - nothing past July yet.

Yeah you could be right as they were announced to headline a festival in New York at the end of July, so maybe they will stay that side of the world after July.. My preferences would be Depeche Mode or Arcade Fire but don't think we will get either :(

Tame Impala, Florence and the Machine, Muse, Jack White all playing European summer festivals, although mostly in June/July.
could see Tame Impala headlining Longitude though, should be either the same weekend, or the weekend after they're playing Mad Cool.

Correct, must have missed a few. Would love to see Tame Impala back. Overall a fairly strong list of names, hopefully we get a nice selection.. Although last year we didn't see Duran Duran coming at all!

Japan, although at least it shows a few that are still gigging into August.
too early for NG and probably Beck, but good to see NIN and Chance touring then.:

Yeah, pretty sure he was in the EA.

And personally I'd prefer Lorde as a headliner to Kasabisn or the Arctics. The latter were one of the worst headline acts I've seen there, still puzzled by how flat they were.

But as other posters have said if we don't like a particular headliner then we've lots of other options.

The Valentines are another big possibility, new album due and they're plating a Japanese fest two weeks before EP.

Valentines, Bjork & Kendrick Lamar would make me very happy indeed. With The Prodigy or Chemicals as the Sat late act. Something for everyone?

Would MBV really be a headliner prospect? They’ve not exactly got a main stage crowd friendly sound and it’s not the same festival that it was last time they played

Headliners in 2008 (though they opted to play in the EA) & sub-headliners in 2013. If the new album gets a lot of hype they could headline, though I agree not above most of the acts already mentioned.

Forgot they were under Mr Cook in 2013.

Speaking of which, we could end up with the similar lineup to 2013, Arctic Monkeys, Bjork, My Bloody Valentine and David Byrne touring. And instead of The Knife maybe Fever Ray,
